"Democrats should do this, republicans should do that..." this is the exact behavior that is retarding the nation, driving it to insanity, poverty and international disdain. Instead of blaming the other party, fucking fix it and get on with it. They spend so much time blaming each other, that if they would have only taken a little bit more energy, not only would they have fixed the problem, but by fixing it made the other party look excruciatingly ridiculous and inept to even the most base of people. Of course, one can only dream.
This type of behavior is very typical in the business world. If someone says 'prove it' to a company, that someone usually gets some celebrity status, but also they run the risk of being crushed under the company's legal department. It's a shame this guy had to get flack in his job, even though it was 'professionally' handled. They should have read up first, and then seen how to deal with the situation, but as time == money, they couldn't be arsed.
How has this influenced MS and more importantly Ballmer's diarrhea of the mouth? Not much as far as I can tell.
This is what China and other nations are doing with the pc 'recycle' programs. Do you know how much gold they can gather from a few pc's? Gives a whole new meaning to gold farming =)
Indeed! I would absolutely LOVE it if they brought back Monkey Island. For too long has Guybrush been locked up in the brig of LucasArts. Let him and his piratey monkey minions come forth for new adventure!
I love Star Wars as much as any other geek, but come on LucasArts, don't let the games that made you great die off.
Perhaps I'm echoing something that has been said before, but please bear with me. If the companies (Nvidia and ATI) are worried that releasing specs to the open source community will violate patents, why not make the driver more modularized so that they can release everything that is not patented and have the patented parts be libraries/plugins/whatever? This would allow the community to have better information leading to relatively more stable drivers (not 100% due to the binary 'plugins') instead of reverse engineering which is not always a delightful thing to do. I hope I'm making sense here...=p
They should bring back the old LucasArts Adventure games, like my favorite Monkey Island and Sam and Max. The Indy Jones games weren't bad either. Fun adventures, puzzles to work out the brain and great story lines and best of all, no gore or any 'hooker beatings'...unless you get Max angry.
Sure, most kids won't like the graphics since they are used to modern game engines, but if these games could be redone with someone modern graphics while retaining the same fun factor I'm sure many kids would love it.
Yes, they have MI4 with 3D engine, but I still liked the way they did MI3 better. Grim Fandango was fantastic, and the Dig was good too. Too bad many kids nowadays prefer brainless shoot-kill games.
While the recent bad press of Dell's lovely tech support is a bit of an embarrassment, I'm sure that many Ubuntu/Linux enthusiasts will be monitoring the Dell Linux forums (if Dell does make them decent) to help people along. I've used Ubuntu and was amazed at how courteous, helpful and friendly people are on the Ubuntu forums, but as a Gentoo user I prefer the tough love of the Gentoo forums =p
I hate to be a warmonger here, but this stuff could probably be used in military applications as well, probably for night ops and the like. A modern day ninja outfit with this stuff comes to mind, or if the stuff could be tweaked to not only absorb light, but radar as well.
If it reflects virutally nothing, I wonder how it dissipitates heat, or if heat is even a factor in this.
Will this material be light enough for future space exploration, such as space stations and colony materials? Or is the cost associated with making it too prohibitive? How about the melting temperature/pressure resistance for deep earth exploration?
Indeed, or if you have a comp from large retailers that don't give out os disks, only the 'recovery cds' or have a recovery partition on the hard drive, you are in trouble. However, as mentioned above, this has been done for ages since 3.1 (I bought the windows for workgroups upgrade) and dos 5 (6.22 upgrade. god i loved 6.22) days.
Trouble is, as windows gets more 'advanced' it gets more 'stuff' that makes an upgrade go 100% smoothly. Hell, even upgrading between version updates from any linux distro you see many people have problems, just look on the forums (especially the ubuntu 5 to 6 update, gentoo during the major portage change, etc.)
Like the forums always say, it is better to install a clean version of the newest OS instead of upgrading from old, if you can that is =)
But I would like to know how this will affect the customer as well. I know short term that DRM is bad and all, especially with the "where there's a will, there's a way" mentality in cracking it, but seeing as how these companies invest (or rather waste) millions in copy protection schemes, will they jack the prices up to cover the cost of their mistakes? I think this practice has become mainstream, no?
That hasn't already been said about the dirty tactics that the RIAA is using. If they said that the AOL letter said something and then the defendant's lawyers who received a copy said it didn't, wouldn't that be called 'lying'? And if this so called 'lying' thing is not allowed in courts, how will this play out?
Probably with the judge ruling in favor of RIAA since they most likely have the government in their pocket anyways. =(
It's about time someone decides to make a game that doesn't depend on the bleeding edge graphics, but focuses more on gameplay and fun factor. I hope Sony doesn't rape this student's idea.
Sigh, I miss the lucas arts adventure games days. Crap graphics, damn good fun.
You know, I've never played a MMO game, and I doubt I ever will. I just can't see the reason to pay for doing the same thing every month. Sure, I've done my fair bit of RPG'ing back in the day, but I was more for the story than the experience points. Even when I was DM'ing I would make them work for experience points in the context of the story rather than the typical Diablo throw-a-bunch-of-crap-out-for-the-player-to-slaugh ter thing. Granted, sometimes it is fun, but when leveling up becomes a chore, to me, the game loses its fun value. You log in, kill the same monsters over and over, get gold, log out, rinse repeat. Where's the fun in that?
I think if they can make an Oblivion/NWN type MMO with more focus on a damn good story and great quests, they will be very successful.
Since the secret of manufacturing was lost in the 18th century, it would make sense that they were still made during 1500-1600. How would their properties in manufacturing compare to the folding method of the Japanese katana? Would the nanotubes be present in the katana as well, or was this unique to Damascus?
My point wasn't whether there were survivors or not, nor the story, but the actual problem with the space debris/trash and future space travel. It might be a real problem sometime in the future, or it might not since we don't have information on space trash and space travel just yet.
There was this anime (PlanetES) where space trash caused a horrible shuttle accident resulting in everyone dying. While it is an anime, I wonder if it could become true sometime in the future with all the crap left over floating in space, what are the possibilities of, say, a screw flying into a sensitive part of the rocket or cracking a window, etc?
All I'm saying is that it better not be a $600 bomb with the recent overheating problems Sony has had. If it does well, the great. If it sucks, I can't say I would be surprised either. Like so many people have commented on, the Sony fanboys will buy one regardless and deny anything wrong with it, the Sony haters will no doubt buy one later when the price comes down to a reasonable level, and then there will be people like me who won't care either way. I bought a 10 generation ps2 because after 10 generations, one would hope the bugs would be gone. I expect to do the same with the PS3.

Or the Bush Administration might make war on Firestone/Michelin/Bridgestone as well...
If using linux = communism, then the RIAA are a pack of commie bastards! I'm so confused now!!! =(

One could always use Photoshop with wine or crossover office...or keep complaining.

As per your signature, if the walls in the dungeon were coated with this stuff, a grue would most definately have its way with you =)
So there i was, a few years back trying to open the bank vault in zzt, but failed miserably. DAMN YOU TIM SWEENY!!!!

When was the last time MS actually kept its promises, especially in the face of reaping millions? Hmmm?
