  1. Quality will always change on iTunes, One Billion Suckers Served? · · Score: 1

If the question is one of quality, shouldnt we also consider the recording itself. If you want a copy which will never age, you should be buying the rights to 3 minutes of the artists time, so that every time a new microphone emerges, you can demand a more up to date copy.

or you could just enjoy the music

  2. another problem on Top 10 Worst Game Controllers · · Score: 1

Both the SNES and the megadrive used to give me blisters on my left thumb.. i suppose it could be cos i played solidly from age 8 to 13

  3. Im pleased on Slashback: MMORPG Trends · · Score: 1

cos im crap at golf, but can certainly hold my own in WSG. Finally all of us un-coordinated geeks get a chance to network

  4. what would happen.. on Continued Success for Space Elevator Tests · · Score: 1

if instead of nanotubes, we used elastic, and instead of a 'counter-weight', we used the moon!

  5. A cool demonstration on Magnetic Processors - Computing's New Future? · · Score: 1

In the entrance hall of the rochester physics building, Durham University, there was a cool demo of a magnetic 'not' gate. The model was an electric railway. the train had an arrow on it indicating the direction of the magnetic field. When triggered, the train moved round the track into a v shaped grove, the direction of the train was switched as it backed out of the V, as the direction of the field would be switched.

as well as showing (conceptually at least) that this worked, it gave rise to the possibility that the 'supercomputer' in the instituate for computational cosmology was just a really REALLY elaborate trainset..(turntables and everything).

also.. working in the group is a Dr Mike Hunt..

  6. Just for home users? on British PC Tax to Replace TV License? · · Score: 1

I didnt see anything about restricting the tax to home pc's.. if my company is having to pay TV tax on my workstation, i'll feel obliged to watch tv at work

  7. Re:Hmmmm - maybe my Dad has always been right ... on British PC Tax to Replace TV License? · · Score: 1

Its just another layer of this nanny state which (to save being labeled a troll- i wont name name's) began in 1997. Surely VAT is a tax on all PC's. It wont be long before they want to charge you for each programme.. daytime 50p/hr, evenings and weekends 10p/hr.

i wish they'd stop upping tax and start working out why they're wasting the tax they already get. I dont see why I should have to pay a license fee which is supposedy meant to support the BBC when i watch mainly SKY and stuff off t'web. If they must have more cash; get sponsors.. commercial stations have to and i dont mind ignoring 5 mins of ad's.

damn.. beat me to it. The french one is a much better dancer than the japenese one too

  9. Level caps on The Secret Life Of MMOG Characters · · Score: 1

In a game like WOW which has a level cap, offline leveling would only let players reach the maximum (and i think most broken level) faster. The rested bonus is a much fairer way of doing it, and also helps the game last longer.

i'd also add that eve is different in that its skills your learning and not XP gaining and as some skills can take months to level up, it doesnt make frequent players feel less valued.

  10. Re:23k a record? on Eve Online Hits 100K Subscribers · · Score: 1

If you've not played, I think the close-ness of the community that comes from just the one server is part of the charm of the game. Wow is imo let down by having many identical realms, wheras if you play eve your in the same universe as everyone else. Also, i remember the lag when they 1st hit 12k... 23k and stable is BIG news :)

  11. Brilliant on Real Life Questing For Gold · · Score: 3, Interesting

News, its not, entertaining and refreshing, it very much is

I would love nothing more than to walk down the street and see someone with a giant yellow ! above their heads ready to charge me with a task to save the world (or kill a few murlocs) and recieve some fantastic reward (or a new belt).. I must admit i have never looked that closely at people who beckon to me as i walk up the high street, but from now on i promise i'll glance at their heads and give it a chance.

perhaps i should be locked up in the basement too :S

  12. Re:Of course i'd complain on Cell Tracking on the Rise · · Score: 1
I think this is something too complicated to solve in a forum, i would cite one final piece of evidence to back up my (probable) madness

Official figures show that they retain the genetic details of almost 150,000 people with no criminal record...
because English forces had access to the DNA of people previously held but not convicted, they had been able to solve open cases including 88 murders, 45 attempted murders, 116 rapes and 62 sexual offences.

i know percentage-wise it might seem small, but i really would be happy for my details to be among those 150,000, if it would help to eliminate me from suspicion. I'd also rather know they have my dna than be left to assume they've picked it up somewhere

Life'd be dull if we all had the same views, and i enjoy the discussion. im sorry if people think im trolling, but these are my views. I hadnt really thought the UK was too bad, sure we have CCTV in alot of town centres, but it does seem to help with petty crime at least
