What if they just transmit the pasport number, a unique but largely useless reference? that way legit people can use it to check against records, and illigit people are buggered.
I personally would prefer a chip in my arm so i dont need to bother carrying a passport/driving licence etc, and i'd certainly have all criminals tagged.. wait.. i mean branded.. Think of it as a VFID
respectfully, 'libgphoto' is one of the reasons i have no idea, despite many MANY attempts, how to use linux.
Plug and play, no matter which end it comes from, is the only way an OS can be successful. As much as i enjoy pratting around with computers, they are a means as well as an end and they need to work as easily as possible.
The more OS's there are, the less chance manufacturers will make drivers for all of em, it just isnt commercial. Why do we always piss on people who make money from their endevor?
Microsoft dont owe us a product, they'll have it when they're ready and then we can choose if we buy it. In this case, monopoly means they did it first and they do it best. Green's an unflattering colour
Wow.. i didnt know that.. thats quite scary actually
that sounds alot like letting people take the law into their own hands tho'. what do i have to have done/made to get similar rights to personal info about people?
hmm.. i wonder what rights you'd have if your isp gave up information like that. RIAA are certainly not the police. If it were me i'd make sure my lawsuit with the ISP more than covered the RIAA's demands
I dunno.. it'd only be a real problem in turbulance (or maybe take-off/landing), i expect those seats weigh a fair bit.
The crafty slashdotter could wait till the guy infront is asleep, unbolt his seat, and push it forward; affording him some much needed leg room and avoiding any additional cost! Victory!
that game where you try to unfasten girls bras without them noticing.. only instead of bras, its cars.
Its a cool idea, but i'm a bit sceptical about these 'codes'
it Would be cool if, say, in a car accident, firemen could spontaneously deconstruct a car involved, to get at the victim inside, but i doubt that screws have a lot to do with that. Its probably just going to make it easier for people to steal your radio
When TV finally gives up with its disgusting practise of spewing radiation all over the planet, and allows us to doanload and watch what we want when we want, people will start to ask why they're having to trapse to the video store and buy films. By providing a service such as this, the film industry is just taking that first step to a brighter future
i think we'll see a supermarket style war over the next few years as both sides take increasingly bigger steps to this new way of getting entertainment. its a good thing and the consumer might finally win for a change.. take that mpaa!
A short tale of things which didnt turn out how people planned:
The quest to make the worlds strongest glue leads to post it notes,
Alfred nobel was just looking for a new way to mine
Teflon was created to protect space shuttles
the world will only have use for about 10 computers
Iraq has wmd's and can strike in 40 minutes
We'll never have another war like that
coke, the health drink
we'll never have another war like that
World Wide Web is an application that runs on the Internet. When you said "the internet is a multimedia info source", you meant "the World Wide Web is a multimedia info source".
o..k.. i cant be sure, time is a transcient thing, but i reckon i meant exactly what i said.
this has become a bit flame-ful and of topic, so i quit..
in the UK, the key phrase is 'reasonable adjustments', so if ur a corner shop, it might just mean adding a ramp, wheras tesco/walmart might have to lower all of their stores by 3 feet.
i suspect its just another example of a crap law which is going to need half a dozen test cases to decide what it really means
Ok, if its a network, make it like the one in my office, where basically im the only one who has a clue whats going on, not through lack of accessability, but because thats my job and no-one else can be arsed.
i think the internet is more than just a network, it means the stuff that its used for aswell
It was probably a bit subtle, but "a picture paints a thousand words"..
"alt is an attribute, not a tag"
not sure that adds anything to the discussion.
My point is really that the internet is a multimedia info source, and to try and jury-rig it for people with disabilities is probably a waste, at least in economic terms.
How do you really convert a website for the visually impared? every time a picture is replaced, then its gonna make the site 1000 words longer (conservative estimate). I always do my best to include proper tags and the like, but i don't see how, for example, a graphic design company could apprioriately convey a subtle use of colour in an alt tag? or even if it would have any value.
And where does it end? do all bilboards have to be in braile?
What about a site which contains questionable material? should whitehouse.com come with proper descriptions?
Some law in the UK makes it illegal to possess encrypted data and not provide a key to decrypt it. it even allowed for the situation where i could email u an encrypted archive and your inability to open it would put u in breach of the law.
hehe, the rebel i am.. i just emptied my recycle bin..
I was looking for a better way for the average punter to buy windows cheaply and still allow for low priced upgrades, not forcing them to buy an entirely new copy.
i'd be hoping they use a dvd, i think they can reasonably assume anyone running vista will have a dvd drive
we'll all end up using the same version (hmm.. that sounds like piracy)..
Mbr>The idea of an operating system is that it should have common features across every install, otherwise software packages will need to be tested and rated for each, i also forsee the winxp home networking problem appearing, using xphome is not a choice for most users.
it was my understanding that manufacturers increasingly tried to make their products the same so they're cheaper to manufacturer.. then maybe have an upgrade system which allows people to buy a new cd-key as and when which enables the new features

I hadn't realised this was so common. we should start an awareness group :)
I notice u say 'ex'.. perhaps it wasnt so accidental?
.. wise words.. i nearly ripped my finger off on the inside of a drive bay. sod bird flu.. coolermaster- the slient killer

I dont think so

I dont think u deserve a 'flamebait' for that..
i know my pov is seen as ethically weak, i just find the increasing trend to liberalism flies in the face of what made my country (at least) great.

I already have to debug my sites on firefox then fiddle to get them right on IE.. am i supposed to lynx it too!?
I think you're free to do business with whom you choose, unless you choose them based on race, colour, disability etc..
:)
I always enjoy the conflict between disabled access campaigners and listed building status

looks like more advertising disguised as news to me.. :(

hmm.. theres puppies up there too?
with that solved, we can start addressing minor quibbles, like a cancer and avian flu
