but the artists dont get *shit* when you buy your music there.

Because artists make SO MUCH on sales in this country...

(Don't particularly like using this as a reference, it's not exactly CNN or BBC, but it's the first reference I saw that looked decent...)

    http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?NewsID=14 495

Rather than paying artists approximately 30 cents of the 70 cents it receives for digital downloads (after deducting payments to music publishers), the suit alleges that Sony Music treats each download as a sale of a physical CD or cassette tape, only paying on 85 per cent of such "sales" (due to a fiction that there is breakage of product), deducting a further 20 per cent fee for container/packaging charges associated with the digital downloads (although there are none), and reducing its payments by a further 50 per cent "audiofile" deduction, yielding a payment to the Sony Music recording artists of approximately 4 1/2 cents per digital download

I'd rather pirate the track and give the artist the buck directly. If only there were a way to do that...

If there's open space, people will rush to fill it. Guarenteed. If people have a 2 second gap it's because there's like 12 cars on the road period.

They seem to assume that the driver has the reaction time of a sloth on mogadon, and is driving something with cable-drum brakes.

Having driven for two years in Southern California, I'd say their assumption is spot on target.

Friday, the 22nd, I almost rear ended someone at a turnoff. I was in the slow lane going my requisite 65mph, when traffic suddenly came to a complete stop. This offramp is two lanes about a mile long (one an exit only, the other a spinoff of the freeway), yet it was still backed up all the way into the freeway because of people trying to get to the mall.

Had I not had my two second gap I'd've rear ended the guy in front of me. I was assuming traffic just had a hiccup, I didn't fathom immediately that people had actually stopped so I didn't break as fast initially as I should've. Never happened before, completely unexpected. Obvious in retrospect (mall offramp, last Friday before Christmas), but cognitive thought like that isn't really applied during driving often.

Sure, people hate me for it, but screw em. I've made it a habit to be inordinately early so I never feel rushed, thus driving 65 on a freeway is fine and dandy for me.

What exactly "sucks" about paying for this? I can understand if it's outrageously priced, like CDs these days, but if it was a buck or two an episode it'd be cheaper than getting the DVDs and since you're not getting anything tangible, probably works out in the end.

Might check it out myself if it's not too much; I've been meaning to see Red Dwarf for a while (since someone introduced it to me and NEVER FINISHED IT! grr...) but at nearly $40 for seasons 1 and 2 (at only about 12 episodes total) it's a bit pricey. I personally think it's worth it to compensate them something for this, I did like it and I'd like to encourage more work like this.

And just more things to break. Honestly. The more crap you shove into a compact space the higher chance something's going to break, fail and cost hundreds in repairs.

It's the automatic window conundrum. On the one hand, automatic windows are convenient, simple, free your hands and make life easier. On the other hand, when they break, what you do is severely limited by the position of the window. If it's stuck in the 'up' position, good luck going through cash toll roads or drive thrus. Stuck down? Hope you don't go to the car wash.

I have manual windows. I wouldn't trade em at all. (I do wish I had automatic doors though; at least those can be used manually...for now)

All this means is cars have reached a point where advancement has peaked and now they have to justify the new ones you buy every three years with gadgets and gizmos and ribbons you'll never actually use but somehow it makes you feel better.
