The reason this one is getting so much press is Apple's "It Just Works" campaign. They're saying it just works, and when it turns out to not "just work", it's a pretty big issue.
My father just bought a $400 HP desktop that came with Vista Home Premium. Are you saying he got the desktop for free and spent all his money on the OS?
Now for free software, I do have Debian Linux on my notebook computer, and I also have Vista Ultimate. Because I am a pretty avid gamer, I spend most of my time running Vista. I use Open Office in Debian for my schoolwork, and I have nothing bad to say about Debian, but I still have had a completely painless experience with Windows.
Also, my dad has his copy of Office for free through work. I know most users won't have connections like that, but he didn't have to pay for his.
I use Windows and I would gladly endorse it. It's inexpensive and, contrary to what some rabid slathering Mac fanboys would have you think, it actually works quite well.
I honestly don't give a shit. Every time I have more than 0 bars I can call anyone and hear what they are saying to me. Background noise doesn't mean a thing if I can hear what the other person is saying and they can hear what I'm saying.
I agree. I wasn't saying it was a standard pixel count. I just opened op calc on a hunch and figured those numbers up. I, too, think it's odd that they'd have it like that when they can fit 1920x1200 on a 15" screen.
Meltdown is not a bad thing. All a meltdown is is when the carbon control rods melt. It means they are doing the job they should be doing, because when there is a meltdown, the reactor is taken offline.
Hell, I run it on a mediocre rig (AMD 2.5ghz @ 2.9ghz, 4gb ddr2-800, 9600gt) at medium with high texture quality (which looks amazing, compared to most shooters) and I get >40fps at 1680 except during the final battle or other high-explosive events (bombing the destroyer being one).
In amongst all the FUD, craziness and bullshit that I read about in news articles (especially here on/.), it's good to know that there's still some common sense in someone's head. Especially if they have a position of power.
I know that I download a few songs before I decide to buy an album. Usually the music videos on Youtube don't do the album justice (for instance, Dream Theater. Their video for "The Dark Eternal Night" was good, but didn't even come close to how awesome the rest of the album was). I downloaded 2 of the other tracks, and decided to go buy the album. If I wind up not liking what I hear, I just delete what I downloaded.
especially when it comes to video cards because they don't store data =X

Where did the "s" in the fourth word come from?

1680/945 = 16:9 aspect ratio
you can tell yourself that all you want, it doesn't change the fact that the constitution still holds true.
It's good to see that the Constitution still means something.
actually, there's logical explanations to why airplanes fly, there's logical explanations to why H-bombs DO work.
this seems pretty interAAAH! CMON FUCKING GUY!
"1/3 sysadmins snoop! The other 2/3 don't admit to it!"
I have no clue. I'm at work right now, but when I get home I'll see.

Why was this modded down? The man raises an interesting pointe.
