But in this case his point was there, clear as crystal - perhaps it is because you read the other comment first (which may indeed be irrelevant) so when you came to this one you weren't expecting it to be on topic and therefore didn't understand his meaning. To me and the others that have replied, his point was perfectly clear - The Laser TV may not be a Laser TV at all but rather just a Plasma TV configured to look better than the other Plasma TV beside it.

We're wacked, out on acid, too much acid to write decent lyrics. But release, we'll release it, because all the emos and angsty teens will love it.

Personally I think the album has a slump right up until Knights of Cydonia.

  10. Niche! on Gaming Platform of Choice - Console · · Score: 1

What we need to remember is that Computer Games have always been a niche market and always will be. When most people play games, they just want to plug it in and have it work. They don't want a steep learning curve, they don't want to tweak their configs, they just want to have some quick clean fun.

Some people aren't like that. Some people like having the greatest graphics, the best framerates, the slickest mods, the most twinked Warlock. And they're willing to pay premium for that. Console gamers like the plug and play, computer gamers think "hey, I use my computer for all this crap anyway, might as well whack in a graphics card and do something fun with it".

For me, the biggest alure of computer gaming is the multi-functionality and the room to tweak. I dig that staff, and a lot of the geekier gamers do. But when the WoW servers go down here on a Teusday night, we fire up the Gamecube and the Xbox and lounge around on beanbags playing Super Smash Brothers etc. because it's just damn good fun. Both computer gaming and console gaming have their individual merits, but neither is inherantly better than the other, they're just suited to different kinds of people.

  15. It was only a matter of time. on Steve Irwin Dead · · Score: 0, Troll

Look, everyone knew that this was going to happen to Steve Irwin at some point. It didn't take a genius to see that he was unlikely to live to a ripe old age. He wasn't a complete idiot and he knew the risks he took. It was the game he played.

Personally, I am not too heartbroken about it. To me he was just another celebrity. I found his manner irritating and never gained anything particularly insightful from his documentaries or TV series. While he pumped a decent amount of money into environmental conservation, I feel that his contribution to raising envrironmental awareness was almost cursory, as his work normally relied upon shock value and "action" shots rather than highlighting the fragile nature of the environment or even nature's splendor.

To me, all Steve Irwin's death means is that I no longer have to put up with that ridiculous accent when I watch TV. (He did a lot of advertisments for his Zoo and Australian quarantine.)

  18. Parents = Fud on Continued Opposition To Laptops in Schools · · Score: 1

I got a laptop at the start of eigth grade (the start of high school here). Me and 20 or so other students used laptops for pretty much every class except Maths (junior high school maths doesn't exactly involve complex modelling). Our "laptop program" class did fine. It wasn't actually a class full of nerds. Yes we had them, but the majority of the class were normies, equivalent "jocks", "musos" and "whores".

And yes we procrastinated, but every student does, laptop or no. It didn't matter because we were delivered content in such a way that it was optimised for "electronic learning" (as our principal liked to call it). We had an intranet site through which learning material was distributed and assignments/homework/classwork was submitted, and had reasonably tech savvy teachers. Because the subjects were delivered like this, work (especially group work) got done a lot faster, despite "procrastination".

Kids are going to screw around in class and after whether they have laptops or not. Nowadays when I don't have my lappy with me for classes I just draw in my book or fall asleep like a normal student. Also, Myspace is only harmful only to your eyes (zee goggles! zey do...) and perhaps your musical taste. If kids gain access to harmful materials because they own a computer, it's not going to be at school (hell, I couldn't even access much learning material with our school's blocking policy), it's going to be at home. Where you'd have a computer anyway. With internet access. If you can stop them looking at "harmful" sites on there, you can stop them when they're using a laptop. Remember, they're just like big computers except easier to carry.
