Since when did windshield wipers actually clear that stuff away? You know as well as I do, that if a bird craps on your windshield all a blade is going to do is smear it around. The absence of wiper blades, doesn't mean you never have to wash the car.
Despite how neat this sounds, please wake me up when they actually put this on something off the factory line.
It worked for AOL for a while too. Now look at them. Companies may get some short term gains (a few years) but long term it will play out in favor of the company that opens things up more. The more providers reselling the network, the better. Government maintained wi-fi and cellphone networks would be even better...
This is more than a tad repugnant. It's a gross misappropriation of funds designed to address one of the greatest humanitarian crisis of our times. I for one hope Bill & Melinda get wind of this and take these a$%h^&es for all they are worth.
It seems to me this would also significantly reduce the battery life of an appliance. Put something down on your desk... pick it up... put it down. Isn't that exactly what you are *not* supposed to do with batteries?
Why is the interface design always sub-par on these things? I don't care how many neat features you have if the interface is hard to use or text that is difficult to read my mom and dad are never going to want one - and neither will I.
Why is it both of the articles on the 200 billion dollar government investment look like scam sites? The first one is actually selling some cheesy "book" and asking for donations through PayPal. The second one isn't a real news article either, just a collection of quotes. Smells like conspiracy theory to me. Is there no better source for this information?
The Hezbollah army builds their bases on the ground floor of civilian apartments. They are literally hiding behind women and children. Both sides (Hezbolah and Israel) are equally to blame for the civilian deaths. And since the Syrian and Iranian government are funding the rocket attacks, shouldn't these hackers be hacking Syrian and Iranian sites as well? Could it be that hacking US sites just provides bigger bragging rights?
From what I've seen the page rank is relevant, but it only provides a site initial rank. Every outgoing link detracts from where the site will return in Google's search results. Conversely links in (especially from highly ranked sites will no other outgoing links) raise your ranking. Think of page rank as credit that can be spent. The rank also seems to be exponential, will a 9 being a lot stronger than an 8, etc.
That raises an interesting thought (though I'm not sure this is what you meant): how far can we adapt through genetic manipulation? Can we engineer "humans" that can live in environments we now consider hostile? Would we? Can we engineer or screeen for violent tendancies or anti-social behavior so people can live more peaceably? Should we?
Anybody who feels this way should start their own business. It does require a certain amount of capital, but starting your own business is an opportunity to do things the right way (or at least your version of the right way).
Anyone who doesn't start their own business has no more right to complain about corporate culture than people who don't vote have to complain about politics. Nothing will change unless we change it.
Part of the fun for a lot of people is creating new characters. You can commit virtual-social-suicide and then come back a few minutes later a new man. Not to mention that people LIKE to play different roles.
Yeah, like DMOZ... but without the 6 month wait time for site approval!
Instead of an admin system, it could easily be more like Wikipedia. Allow everyone to rate the site and eventually you get a proper rating.
How can we avoid this? I think that human rating of sites either by administrators or general users could vastly improve the situation. Imagine being able to rate a site based on how well it matched your search.
My company generated the tracking images being posted on the Global Flyer website. Using the individual images we created showing Global Flyer's position, we generated a time-lapse animation of Steve Fossett's latest trip. Kind of fun...!

That wouldn't work because they are probably going to be using Access. Ofcourse then it will crash on it's own if there are more than 100 records...

That might not be hiding anything, but check out Los Alamos, New Mexico. Notice the resolution is extremely low around there...

Looks like they've gone up by $500... I wonder if George Bush is in league with the kitten tycoons too...

If enough people flag something as SPAM, you remove it, no matter how many bots give it a great rating.
