If what you say is true, I may try it again at some point. (currently I do not have Linux running on my primary system). But last time I tried WINE, people had told me the same things: "No really! It's fast! 90% as fast! Some benchmarks even show WINE as running _FASTER_ than windows!"
And so of course I tried it, and about ten minutes later when a (main, as opposed to loading screen)window had finally displayed I tried hitting a key and watched nothing happen for another minute or two. Though it actually recognized some hardware that I couldnt even get to work correctly in Native linux, it was still completely unusable as far as speed was concerned.
So, that's the only place my claims are coming from: based on my own experiences. Unless there's a default "really really slow" mode I need to turn off that nobody has told me about, it's just really really slow.
Last I tried it on my 3.2ghz with 2gb of ddr ram, everything ran slow enough to not be usable. Yeah, I know an emulator will always be slower than the real thing, but shouldnt it at least perform as well as my 75mhz running windows 95?
I've read about a paint which was developed that is much more efficient than the thermal tiles NASA currently uses- but NASA wont use them because they are not weather proof. My question of course is: why not put the paint on UNDER the tiles?
I distinctly recall an entirely seperate death for scotty. Though my perception of time is not very good, and so "six years" was a wild guess. At this moment I have no reason to believe this isnt just some wild hoax.
But seriously, who the fuck modded me "Troll"? What the flying fuck is wrong with you?
it's supposed to mean his definition of "Truth" is not a very good one. That it is inadequet. Not good. Performing below the expectations of a proper definition. Low in quality. Not meeting all the goals which tend to be set forth when defining something.
Perhaps he really meant "They were being factually accurate". Since when does that have anything to do with truth?
somebody who's never heard of a floppy disk, how cute! (since disabling password-based access, I have actually used my computer/more/, since so long as I'm carrying around my key I also made sure to keep a couple ssh clients for various archs/OSs)
Floppy disk/Mini-CD/USBKeychain/USBWatch/USBPhone, there's really no excuse.
Though you havent used it yet, and so can't possibly code your pages to display correctly on IE7, please modify your code to pretend it does, and thus garantee that it will look awful when people switch to IE7, rather than defaulting to a non-fancy format for unknown browsers.

Are there any bittorrent-aware NATs, or bittorrent NAT daemons, things of that nature? Currently, I just ssh in to the NAT box and run bittorrent from there whenever I want to get something, but it would be great if there were some way the bt clients could speak for themselves: "Hey, NAT box, I want to torrent this file!" and have it set up all that's required automatically, no ssh, no manual port forwarding, etc
I expect that as the concept of the "year" becomes more and more antiquated and less and less meaningful, we will begin to simply count some arbitrary number and due without the likening to arbitrary phenomena.
You dont think things will change in 1000 years? It's hard to keep things the same for 10. And that will just get more tedious once we abandon the "year", of course.;)
Actually, I'm saying that while copyright terms should be limited, I do appreciate that there should be some protection against companies rejecting a work, then waiting a few years and profiting from it. That is- it should still be limited, but when that "limited term" starts should be somewhat flexible. If I publish something, but it only sells 3 copies for 49 years, the copyright shouldnt expire right at year 50 if it has just been picked up a year ago (in the same form) with much wider distribution.
Nope, have not the slightest idea how anything like this would be written or which situations would apply and which wouldnt.
Mostly thinking along the lines of "I make a website which nobody ever visits, then later I publish a book containing the same writings- when should the copyright term start?"
mostly this stems from "I think authors should have a chance to be rewarded for what they do, but I think any law which pushes copyright to the point of the author's death (or beyond) is unconstitutional"
Look, Spam is bad, k? Understand that, accept that, think spammers should be forced to pay ($$) for the real damage they cause. (no, not pay/you/, your own personal annoyance has no monetary value)
And Fraud is a real and serious problem, and is already illegal, and has jail time attached.
However: Jailtime for the act of sending email itself? Fuck that, okay?
"definately" vs "definitely". Now, which of those is harder to comprehend? which of those communicates less the idea which is trying to be conveyed? English has become a language: deal with it.

using a specially constructed sed script, and the text of harry potter, I can turn this book into porn! It adds nothing that wasnt already there!

Didnt he die like six years ago? wtf?
[insert joke about how fascinating it is looking back at what links from two+ years ago were like here]

I just disabled any SSH use without a key. Duh, right?
you have a very poor definition of "truth".

just replying here so it shows up on your user page. I replied to a reply of your post and answered your question there.

you really think we'll still be using this system of time when leap seconds add up to a significant amount?
Okay, show of hands...
/starts/)
who thinks movies from 60 years ago should still have copyright protection?
I see.. the frozen hand of Walt Disney..
anyone else?
(please note I would be in favor of laws which change when the term of copyright
