Yes, I'm also surprised that an organization which attempts to prevent erosion of the constitution by limiting a child's exposure to unproven scientific theories presented as fact (Just as you can't teach christianity in schools as fact, because it can't be proven as fact), does not wildly give attention to people who are actually doing research to see whether or not something might be true, after forming a hypothesis.

Hypothesis: Bacteria may have formed on Mars, a thing undisputed by the Bible unless you consider Bacteria to be an Animal.
What we're going to do about it: Look for possible evidence of life on Mars, while we're busy doing other things there anyway.

Now, once they start proclaiming mineral formations to be bacteria trails, there's something to dispute. But Why discourage someone from doing research which is going to (if they do it correctly, rather than try to make a name for themselves by throwing out wild "findings") do nothing more than show that there was no life on this particular patch of barren rock.

Perhaps "ignorant" is the wrong term. Is there another word for someone who simply has no idea what God or Faith is, yet assumes he is able to speak for all who may fall into the blanket catagory of "Conservative Christian"?

Given two equally fantastic and outrageous claims, I'll side with the one whose supporters don't automatically dismiss the other without even bothering to look at the evidence.
There's a huge difference between "Well, you're wrong, but let's look at how you came to that conclusion" and "Well, you're wrong, so I'd better not waste my time looking at any argument you make against my evidence"

Those with Faith know that their answers are correct, and so they look meticulously at all evidence without fear of ever being contradicted.

They can, in fact, be found on google. They can, in fact, accept certain ideas which are entirely unrelated to Christianity. (for example: Microbes could have existed on mars! Actually, microbes not mentioned at all in the Bible could have existed in Ecuedor!)

Life on mars has nothing to do with christianity. There is no reason to cast a blanket over all christians who don't like the idea of men fucking men and group them with people who think the moon landing never took place.

I have been saying for a while that popup spammers should be prosecuted for malicious hacking, and my stance on that doesnt magically change when someone from my team is effected.
Kids will always go around finding flaws in the network and doing all that they can with them, all in good fun. I enjoyed it when I was in school, I enjoy it now (among friends). Pretending that he used them "As Intended", wasnt doing anything wrong, so shouldnt face any consequence? Are you a troll?

Yes, a message of "Hey!" is obviously not malicious, he's just seeing what he can get the system to do. The only reason he recieved more than a "Don't do that!" is to prevent other students from doing the same thing.

The problem is, the current file selector is the worst layout I can think of, and the one in windows is pretty good.
I hate those "Home" "Trash" "Desktop" buttons, yes, and if there's no way to turn them off, it's a huge mistake. However, The idea of having a seperate place to type file, directory, and filter, that is a good thing.
The Linux version of Opera has a very good (though not perfect) file selector. Oh no! It's a clone of a successful and easy-to-use design! That must make it bad!

-Make it look like the windows file selector. Windows has a GOOD file selector, so you may as well start from there.

-Get rid of the extra windows-only crap (Like a "Desktop" button. That whole area where the "Desktop" button resides should be killed too.

-Allow people to actually type paths into the directory selector- including Tab-completion and bash-style escapes (eg: /home/$USER/`cat /var/omgwtf`/)

-A comprehensive filter which supports both simple patterns (*.mp?g) and regular expressions (with a fucking EXAMPLE of what syntax the regexps follow, god damnit! I hate not knowing if I should begin/end my patterns with /, and whether I should escape my parens. Are there even two programs which use regexps the same? It's fucking annoying, developers should clue in)

-allow patterns/bash escapes/regex/etc in the file selector AS WELL. Not "In the file selector, but not in the filter", not "in the file selector, so you don't need them in the directory selector", but allow them in every place you can type a path!

-If I type a directory into the file selector, don't close the file dialog when I hit enter. EVER. If it is a directory selector, give two buttons: "Use Current Directory" and "Use Selected Directory"

-Always show the user's home directory in the path drop-down. some MRUDs would be nice too, seperated by an HR

once there is a decent Koppix-builder, Knoppix will officially be the best thing ever. (I am the official judge of such things)

Imagine being able to custom-build a Knoppix CD through a simple GUI interface, allowing you to do such things as:
-Create a CD which exactly mimics the look and feel of your usual workstation- a few clicks and you can burn the CD, go on a business trip, and feel like you never left

-Create a CD which, in addition to all that knoppix normally has to offer, has a boot option which scans for a network connection, ssh-tunnels into your home computer, and opens a VNC connection- feel like you never left

-Create a CD which, though still acting like knoppix, has your own damn preferences instead of the crap Knoppix defaults to. (My browser's start-page is SLASHDOT, thank you very much!)

-Create a CD which, after inserting, will autorun a reboot in windows, format the hard drive, install knoppix (or, if a network connection exists, the latest woody), completely configure the system based on hardware auto-detection, eject the CD, then powers down. Just imagine- a no-step debian install. Don't want to drop it in accidentally, but a kickass proof of concept it would be!

    -Or any other purpose:
--A CD that locates windows shares/drives and makes them available through SAMBA/NFS/FTP (no-step server for access by whatever computer needs it)
--A CD that loads all your diagnostic tools with no extra clutter
--A CD that does nothing but burn KNOPPIX CDs
    --A CD that plays Quake
--A CD that shows off a pre-written product demo

Knoppix is great, but to have a CD auto-detect all hardware and then do something USEFUL with that, that would be perfect. No more hassles of "I got this great movie I want to show you, do you have the SPANKME Codec?" -- just burn a Knoppix CD set up to play the movie on boot.

I think it would be cool, Maybe even useful.
