And what the page expects is the issue here. I repeat: Opera 7 has been out of beta for less than two weeks. Microsoft has no obligation to rush out and support minor changes to formatting on Competing Products. Give them more than one week to react, and then complain. The issue here is simple: The article is just plain wrong. Microsoft made their CSS in such a way that it looked right on the current version of Opera at the time. In fact, they went out of their way to make sure that Opera was supported. Opera's response was to come out with a new version which changed the way it interpreted CSS code where elements overlap, then cried foul when MSN was suddenly unreadable. My Opera doesnt ignore the negative margin: It moves the text over so that the bullet acts like a paragraph indent.

Is it really expected that every time a change is made in someone else's product, support for it should be released within the week on every effected page? True that Microsoft is not known for its cross-compatability, but here I am on Opera 6.11 for Linux, and I get an Opera-specific CSS. It renders the page correctly, and if Opera 7 doesnt, it's Opera's fault for breaking compatability, not MS's for not responding to it instantaneously.

You know why it looks like Opera 7 has a "serious flaw" which makes some web pages completely unreadable? It's because It does have a serious flaw. Any time you break compatability with your older versions in such a way that whole blocks of formerly readable text now becomes completely invisible, That is a flaw. Don't cry foul to MS when your favorite browser suddenly does something which is completely fucking stupid.

Hell of a qualifying statement you got there: "I'm about to go on for a bit, but you should absolutely, positively, without question, ignore every word of it."

You thought he was a jerk, and with good reason: He was telling you his own view of what success is. Just because "Personal Happiness" has the word "Personal" in it, don't think that it isnt just somebody else's view of what success is.

So listen to my view of what success is, don't care about what some old guy tells you: Success is not personal happiness. Success and feeling "fulfilled" are entirely seperate things. Success is just what you do in order to have enough time to be fulfilled.

  22. Re:A software engineer.. on Define -- "Software Engineering" · · Score: 1

A troll is someone who posts stupid crap to lower the overall quality/intelligence level of the discussion, generally ruining everyone's fun and making people not even want to bother reading any more.
Example: in response to someone accidentally typing "way to much" instead of "way too much", saying "Way to much! You much like a pro!"

Flame-bait's goal is to get other people to get angry and reply. To "incite an online riot", as you say.
Example: going to a women's rights discussion group and saying "All Women who have abortions are murderers and those who die in clinic bombings DESERVE what they get"

There is of course a blurred line between the two. If someone is posting for no reason other than to be flamed, he is flamebait and a troll. Of course, if someone is posting something to provoke people, but only because he believes in what he is saying and is willing to back up what he says, moderators have no place giving it a "flamebait" rating- it is more likely that "offtopic" would be more suitable.
Generally, if a post does nothing but lower the average intelligence of the discussion, but offers little room for a response, it is Troll. If the same, but seems to beg response, it is Flamebait- it wasnt that the person said "Abortion doctors should die", it was that they said it in a women's rights board which made it flamebait.

the moderation "Flamebait" should be used sparingly. There really are very few flamebait posts, and those which are flamebait are made by Trolls anyway- you would be safe moderating all such posts as "Troll"

And finally: Don't thank people in advance you fucking cocksucker.
