  1. What about Network Neutrality? on Twitters Says It Will Ban Trump If He Breaks Hate-Speech Rules (qz.com) · · Score: 1

Twitter has a vested interest in Network Neutrality. How about No Network Neutrality, no twitter for Trump. Or, it could be easy enough for them to setup trump slow lane until he gets why its important. Maybe like, only 10 chars/sec when reading his tweets. Help us twitter, your our only hope!

I've always honestly wondered, you really want to be a guy shooting a gun when the cops show up to an active shooter situation. I think at this point, you are what 50 - 100 times more likely to be shot by the police then "crazy people" as it stands, and thats without even actually being armed. Now assuming you don't die by hand of the shooter or the cops, what happens when you mistake an innocent as a shooter, or shoot them accidently, because its dark, or things are a little hectic when you are in the middle of the firefight. You go to jail for assault? Manslaughter? Maybe you get off for your attempts at heroism, but I can gaurentee you that the victim, or theirfamily, are going to sue the sh*t out of you, and you are probably going to lose. I don't want to come off as an ass, but I have never heard this arugments fully explained. It just seems less then fully though out.

My younger brother was actually one of the test subjects in this study. One thing that isn't mentioned in the source article, but is mentioned in here http://www.nih.gov/researchmat... is that all the subjects got to sleep in at night was a thin bedsheet, and a hospital gown to sleep in. He said the cold month was pretty miserable, especially towards the beginning. Its not like turing your heat down to 62 and then sleeping under a down comforter, it is basically being miserably cold, forcing your body to produce fat to allow you to keep enough heat to actually sleep.

  4. Re:You missed a term on What the Insurance Industry Thinks About Climate Change · · Score: 2, Informative

Actually, insurance companies don't want the model to go up. I work at a company that writes Earthquake and Hurricane insurance, and we use RMS extensively to model and price our risk(in fact, part of my job is writing the code that pushes our policies into RMS). There are 2 things at work that you aren't taking into account.

1.) You don't have to have catastrophe insurance. At a certain point, people can't afford/won't pay for insurance, and at that point, you start losing money as your customer base shrinks. And even if you are required to (mortgage), at a certain point, people just can't afford it, and just start hoping no one will notice or take action.
2.) Insurance companies have insurance. Insurance companies pay for a huge insurance policy, known as re-insurance, to cover them, to pay out claims against their policies in huge events. Those re-insurance companies look heavily at the risk in your book of policies, and use RMS to determine their risk accordingly. They, like a normal insurance company, are looking to get as much money as possible, but there is much less competition(how many people can afford to pay out 10-100 billion dollars when an earthquake takes out half of LA). When this costs rise, the cost gets pushed through, or erodes into profits, as the Insurance companies try to avoid problem 1.

Unless you go out to the actual DMV databases to verify information, these readers are useless against any decent fake ID(even still you could use a real person's information with a different Picture). As mentioned in the article, PDF417 is an open standard, and any decent card printing program has the ability to create these automatically from the information that is typed on the front, same with auto-encoding of magnetic strip. More fun is that with good equipment, you can re-encode most Mag strips. Re-encode your Drivers license with your credit card for maximum convince, switch the numbers on all your friends credit cards, or encode a fun message for the bouncer on the back of your DL for your next time at the bar.

As someone who has worked in IT at a high school, while that response is a little over the top(I think giving detention for helping me prove a theory is just wrong), the no questions asked policy probably stems from the fact that your school is legally obligated to keep you off of "BAD" websites http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/cipa.htmlChildren's Internet Protection Act. Your school is scared shitless of getting sued. The fact there was a method of getting around whatever blocking "solution" they had exposes them to a huge legal liability(A system level solution is a pretty weak one to say the least, our PIX contacted our WebSence server for every outgoing request). I think they are probably just trying to get you to never talk about it again, lest one of your parent's lawyer friends find out.

I worked for 4 years for the School I graduated from. Medium size network, 1200 students 200 faculty, 500 computers. One biggest difference than any other sector, you get 3 months(summer) where you have to support only 5% of your network, and the rest is yours. This allows you time to play, but most of that time, you have things to do. I worked as part of a 3-5 person team as I was there, mostly over the summers creating images to be used for the next year. 3 months for an image, well, the last year of there, the room we were using for image building had roughly 500 different software titles in it. Licences ranging from Full campus, to 20 copies used only by special ed. All of these had to be sorted and installed in the correct areas. Then, the users you are supporting are not required to know ANYTHING about the computers they used, so most of the users were completely stranded if anything went wrong. Also, your working for a government, so funding is special. One year you get a grant to buy 300 computers for the campus, but who gives grants for wiring(no one, cause who cares if your company donated 4 miles of cat 5, or a layer 3 switch, when your competitor donated 300 magical computers). Then 4 years later, try explaining to non tech that you need 300 new computers. They stare at you, thinking, chalkboards don't need replacing every 4 years, nor do books or desks, what did we get into). I was lucky to be separated from all the finance shenanigans by a boss who's almost sole job was to play finance and liaison between Superintendents, and school boards, and Parents for Responsible Technology (yes, a techie parent started this as well) and keep of clear of the bull shit. This one person made the job extremely laid back and joyous for us, though if I was in here shoes, I think it would have been the worst job in the world.
