Sorry, I don't spend > $1000 on a Mac based on a 10 minute demo from some neighbor.
You don't. Lots of people do. I've inadvertently sold lots of Powerbooks just by using mine in front of people. You'd be surprised what a sexy aluminum case with a light up apple on it and lots of eye candy in your OS will do.
Most purchasing decisions aren't based on what the neighbor of the CEO or head of IT is running.
There's a box on the left side that says (who'd have thought?) FAQs. There are only five questions, and one of them explains the 5MB limitation, and the reason for it.
Nobody notices a speed improvement when running Gentoo. Even throwing out GNOME and replacing it with Blackbox (which is cheating, by the way) doesn't make up for the fact that your CPU is pegged at 100% 24/7 compiling shit.
I've never used SUSE, but I'm pretty sure all you have to do to get the source for your kernel is install the readily available kernel source RPM.
Not installing this by default is, IMHO, a good thing since the kernel source is relatively hefty when unpacked.
Of course I could be wrong about this. If so, the kernel is GPL. If you paid for it and they won't give you the source then you should let the FSF know.
Wow, I didn't know this. I live in Georgia and I get stupid recorded telemarketing messages all the time. Next time I get one I might actually look into having something done about it.
I rather like my Powerbook, even though it's currently en route to an authorized Apple repair center (remember, buy AppleCare for god's sake). I'm honestly not trying to slam Apple (like I could get away with that on/.). I just needed a place to vent my frustration publically, and this was as good a place as any.
Apple makes such elegant machines, with such a nice OS. So much so that I'm happy to fork over another $1000+ compared to an equivalent x86 laptop. I just wish as much thought was put into their component selection and system reliability.
That's why he said you pay them your legal costs. If they hire $500/hr lawyers, and lose, they're going to be paying you a lot of money. Conversely, if you lose, you're just out whatever you paid your lawyer 2x over.
Hi, I'm Captain Obvious. If your ISP does not offer a mail server, then you should keep doing whatever you're already doing. Thanks for your time.
Goddamn. That's an incredibly good idea. Wish I had mod points to give you.
Whatever you say, Marc.
The enemy! Let's get him!

Wow, you're naive.

Of course, Freecache only works for files that are larger than 5MB, and isn't good for mirroring a whole website.
You might want to read the documentation for a solution before you recommend its use. Just a thought.
Unless, of course, the thieves have a P-P-P-Powerbook at their disposal. Then we're all fucked.
I know.
Try using non-shitty hardware.
Honestly, half your hardware? I've seen eMachines where one or two things didn't work. But half? You wouldn't happen to be using a PDP-11, would you?

Thanks!
I think he's trying to get to Mars to kick some demon ass. His work here is done.
Unfortunately, this only works until grizzly bears learn to hit the "I'm OK" button.
NASA just uses an alien with a really good memory to store all their data. The IRS doesn't store any data at all. They just make shit up on the fly.
Well, I could get a few 911 Turbos for the price of a SunFire. So yeah.
(Yes, I realize you meant the shitty Pontiac.)
Haha. You're illiterate.
Right, the only place that counts.
Because it would be cool?
A penguin in a nutshell is a horse.
I find that the ol' gun to the head makes my employees much more productive than any amount of "fun".
You're absolutely correct. My isolated case isn't at all an indicator of overall problems with Apple quality. Way to go, AC :).

That said, problems with Apple build quality seem to be fairly widespread.

I basically have the right to do whatever I want.
I'm above the law.
