It's surprising to see Orin Hatch being shown in a bad light here on/. Afterall, he was one of the senators who urged the DOJ to pursue the antritrust case against Microsoft. He needed to protect Novell.
Actually, when I think of Al Gore I don't think of the typical rants. I think of the PMRC. If you recall, Tipper (Al's wife) was a founding member. From wikipedia, "The mothers claimed that popular music, especially rock music, was partially responsible for the (at the time) recent increase in rape, teenage pregnancy, and teen suicide.". Umm...considering how many slashdotters are gung ho about private rights not being revoked I'm surprised more people don't mention this.
Now, these people also testified before the Senate...in which Al was a member of at the time. You can't tell me he did not use some of his political clout to give his wife's new special interest group...which sought to label, categorize lyrics as harmful and make it difficult to purchase (Bully,Grand Theft Auto anyone?).
He played the number of hours equivalent to 70 days (1680 hours)+. That is equal to 42 40 hour work weeks. Almost a years worth of working full time...played in a game. Now, figure in a full time job, eating, sleeping and there isn't much left. He was a WOW zombie.
Primus is the same in a sense that if you are in YOUR CAR, ON THEIR GROUNDS - you can be in trouble. Also, it doesn't even have to be you. If your spouse smokes, is smoking on grounds when they drop you off for work...uh oh. Smoker's rights are going to hell:(
There are a few companies like that I've ran into before. One company in Houston would fire anyone they found out was a smoker. Also, you can be seriously reprimanded for smoking on the property of PRIMUS (Ford Motor Credit).
No, I had too much of a sense of responsibility. I rarely missed school and if I did I had a doctor's excuse. I attribute my good GPA to my lack of absences which led to a good college experience and a good post collegiate career.
For all of the people thinking the government cannot impose fines or sentences on parents based on acts the children are responsible for, keep in mind that many truancy laws hold parents accountable for the child's absence from school up until the point the child has turned 18 years of age and is no longer a minor. Sure, it's a little different but the point is that parents are held legally accountable for their child's actions in some cases. It will be up to a court of law to decide if this is one of those specific cases.
Actually, employers have started checking out prospective job candidates via MySpace, Google and other online resources to see if there is anything that may stand out as a conflict with the company. Read about it here. Now, sexual orientation used a reason not to hire someone would be considered as discriminatory however if other information was posted such as someone bragging about the $3000 they stole from X company while they weren't looking could cost someone a potential job.
If Al Gore makes a slide show, I think it will convince enough people to actually do something...maybe make a movie like "Day Before Yesterday" or something.
FYI, MS no longer has a stake in MSNBC.
What YOU would do and what the majority of people in this country do may vastly differ as well. The world doesn't revolve around you, my apologies.
All of these people posting "My site gets XX percentage of browser A" need to take into consideration what their site is about. Now, I would guess that the majority of/. users are not running anything that remotely may interest IE users specifically. Many are Linux web sites or Firefox web sites. OF COURSE these are going to be skewed toward a non-MS web browser. If I was running IE4U.com or something that attracted windows users explicity I would bet that my server logs would show a majority of IE browsers and windows operating systems...ya think?
So unless the web site stats being posted here are completely neutral, like MSNBC.COM, I don't see a point in posting those stats.
Personally thats scary as hell! I mean, cats just look at you and you know what they're thinking "If you were smaller, you'd be lunch". Now...giant kittens, we'd be lunch if they ever attacked.
Do you REALLY trust online gambling sites to draft out of your bank account? You do realize drafts like that are pretty much non-reversable right? You signed to allow them to draft from the account - the bank can't do anything regarding a draft in a sum over the amount you agreed to. You have to take it up with the company.
The cake story was posted AFTER the questions had been compiled and sent. So, no one knew about the cake story at that time.

You forgot the number one on the list...World of Warcraft.
Are you sure you aren't confusing zombies with the wanna-be vampire goth crowd?

And who cares about MySpace anyhow?
