The article makes a relevant point; if you don't contribute IN SOME WAY to something that helps your business or organization perform or compete, then you are an idiot because you are shooting yourself in the foot. It's why I got involved with the projects I have in the past, it's why I try to stay involved in Joomla!; namely because they benefit me and my clients and ask for little in return.
Why is it that the only company mentioned here is Microsoft, when in fact the original research article shows this to be a lot more wide spread by some big names - none of which were mentioned here. From the Stanford article (http://cyberlaw.stanford.edu/node/6695): "We also examined a series of URL lists (spreadsheet) that contain 15,511 entries. The URLs and interest segments range greatly. Some URLs are for a landing page; others are for a specific page. Some interest segments are broad; others are fine-grained. A few example segments:
Segment 758: discount sites including Groupon and eBay Daily Deals
Segment 876: sites about coffee, including Dunkin' Donuts, Folgers, and Starbucks
Segments 984-989: home improvement sites including Home Depot and Grainger
Segment 2701: pages about the Ford Fiesta
Several interest segments are highly sensitive:
Segment 760: pages about getting pregnant and fertility, including at the Mayo Clinic
Segment 2640: pages about menopause, including at the NIH and the University of Maryland
Segment 2014: pages about repairing bad credit, including at the FTC
Segment 2265: pages about debt relief, including at the FTC and the IRS"
Please folks - If you're going to bring this to our attention, how about leaving your obvious biases aside and tell the whole story so we can be truly informed? That we we can all be aware of just how widespread an issue this is instead of just another "Microsoft is Evil" piece.
I think a better analogy is that the car is advertised with a top speed of 120MPH, but traffic conditions (other users) and speed limits (available bandwidth at any given time) don't guarantee the ability to reach those speeds.
That the "news" here is all second sourced and second-hand, not the latest or the fastest, and that there are better sites to keep up on the tech/g**k side of the news.
But then later in that same hour, I'll read something genuinely interesting that was missed by the main stream or read a take on a well tread story that I never considered, or read a reply that makes me laugh, choke or think...
To paraphrase Twain, rumors of Google's best days behind it are greatly exaggerated. (And usually from the same people who tried to sell us derivatives...)
Wishing I had Mod to up this - succinct, lucid (no pun intended) and the only real compromise between anonymous trolls and preserving personal freedom.
And as someone posted previously, a compromise being well handled here.
"Hey Everybody, stop using PayPal - they're evil!! Use these alternatives that we are pointing out to you. And of course you can trust US, cause we're the same people who DDOS and hacked credit card companies."
As if. Anyone stupid enough to leave PayPal to go wherever the nice hackerz tell them deserves whatever happens to them.
I find your analogy faulty, at best. Opinions posted here are meant for comment. Interaction, and the free exchange of opinions is the main reason most of us are here and the basis for/.
The poster wasn't questioning your right to comment, but was saying that if someone has a problem with the free service being provided, then they have other free alternatives that they can pursue. I tend to agree, and wonder about the concept of pseudonyms for a "social" network - but I would say that if you want to use them, there are networks out there that will let you do so, so you are not locked in to using Google. If you want to use their services, which they are providing for free, then you have to abide by their rules. You can express your displeasure, but that's about it.
I've run into this type of malware/scareware with clients and friends, and I've had a lot of success with the program "Unhackme" by Greatis Software link. It's been pretty effective on malware and root kits and is reasonably priced, not to mention quick. It also works to prevent further infections by protecting the boot sector area.
Full disclosure - while I am a fan and recommend the program to others, I have no connection with the company or devs. Just trying to help.
and a lot more concerned about the former army head that's now the head of the intelligence secret police. If any other country made that kind of link, we'd be questioning their position on civil rights....
Really? Your average "bright" user is still patently unaware of the amount of meta data hidden in the standard Word document. This is a stupid idea, and is either a joke or a scam to get users to part with information.
I would hope that the janitor would be able to call out the CIO if he found him to be wasting company resources. At least that's th way W. Edwards Deming saw it, and I've always been inclined to agree. He said that the most important people in the company are usually the lowest on the corporate pyramid because they have day to day contact with the customer. All workers need to be empowered to be part of the quality control equation becuase they all function within the system.
It seems to have worked quite well for Japan and many of the other Asian nations...
Thanks - multiple times I have posted here against the term. Call yourself what you want, but I don't want to be identified as a "geek" or "nerd". I'm a professional, an entrepreneur, a business owner - but don't refer to me as a geek or nerd or be prepared to be lectured.
.. I didn't go and I didn't get a degree. Now I make a very comfortable living working three days a week instructing those that DID go to college, how exactly they should be doing their jobs. Ironically enough, one of the markets I specialize in is - wait for it - education.
Not to mention that his ride up to his capture was done in secret, so as not to tip the British off that he was making rounds to warn the colonists.
Once again, I am further convinced that Palin is actually made of fissionable nuclear materials. Like quantum mechanics, she changes depending on whether she is observed or not. She is highly toxic to most intelligent beings, and without the proper controls in place, she causes havoc. Someone should hose her down with Boric Acid.
as much as that they did a better job of it. The Galaxy Tab is simply better than the iPad2. IMHO is afraid of losing market share and this time, rather than innovate, they decided to litigate.

A nuke plant the size of a CARRY-ON SUITCASE. I don't see any problems with that getting into the wrong hands...

Would that be the internet search behemoth, whose best days are behind it? http://tech.slashdot.org/story/11/08/08/1415203/Are-Googles-Best-Days-Behind-It

Tasteless analogy; and flawed. You have a choice to go to a cathedral or a bazaar when invited, and you have a choice to leave either of them.
There were no such choices for the victims of concentration camps, and they were the ones providing the services.

I could care less about Bitcoin, and have NEVER searched for it, and my results were identical to the OPs. Just saying.

the lawsuit is in danger of suffering the same fate as the movie - falling into complete obscurity. Talk about self referential.

Which I guess is MUCH better than an Open Sores Fleshlight...
