I suppose your right. If you include that other stuff...but the concept of "the light" taken instrinsically is not limited to judeo-christian philsophy.
"They're mostly lead by the 'Light' (which is an allusion to Christian religion) in their actions,"
out of whose ass did you pull that?
"the light" as a religous concept is far more eastern or possibly new-age centric then Christian...
Looks like you have your own bias to deal with.
All you weepers and gnashers of teeth slamming TIVO didn't even read the article, which is normal for slashdot I suppose.
I cant remember the last time I watched a commerical. *everything* I watch is recorded, so I can skip ads. If I am channel surfing, and find something I want to watch thats not on one of the movie channels, I record it, and watch it later, so I can skip commercials.
As long as my Tivo allows me to skip commericals, I will use it. When the day comes when I have to watch commercials, that will be the day I get rid of it.
The article was NOT about getting rid of skipping commercials...
Corn gives about 2-3 gals/bushel, Sugar cane about 8. So its more like 3-4, not 8 times.
Also, in case you didn't notice, the climate of the US and Brazil are slightly different.
The crop we should be using here in the US would be sugar beets...suited for colder northern climates and sugar cane-like yield.
MythTV is cheaper! - Well thats a Myth, unless you have a PC tree w/capture cards growing in your backyard
MythTV is easy to use! - Another Myth, unless you define driver hell and audio/video synch issues as easy
Tivo is the definition of reliable and easy...they can take my $5 a month...far superior to the $300-$500 MythTV + dozens of hours of setup and troubleshooting (grief!!)
its WAY older than that...theres nothing new about it, at all.
not to mention recent evidence suggests there will be no big crunch and re-bang...just a slowly fading out to entropy.
Thats OK! We like the way we have our little corner of the world setup. In fact, most of us don't agree with our government policies either, esp with regard to foriegn policy. Americans would much rather leave people alone, be be left alone. Unfortunately, we have zero control over our government, contrary to popular belief.
Instead of using your supposedly more intelligent non-american brain and realizing this is about international media companies simply trying to remain releveant in an internet enabled world.
Newsflash to all the euro-trolls and other US-haters, the US does what it does because of a fundemental flaw in our governmental system...lobbying and other forms of influence on our elected officials.
the world is now run by huge international financial interests...not dubya.
But, if it makes you feel better and superior to ignore the real problem, as well as corruption and in BS in your own countries, feel free to blame Bush until you get blue in the face.
Applying the word monopoly is only a good idea when there actually is one. MS has plenty of OS competition, just because the market chooses to use them far more than anyone else hardly qualifies as a monopoly.
To me, this particular issue (SMB) seems more like a whinefest. "lots of people use your proprietary file sharing protocol, and we want to use it too so people will use our stuff instead of yours".
If I was MS, id tell people to f-off too. You like the fact we dont share our network protocols? Build your own.
Just like a bunch of linux-fanatics....to cry about intrusive software that can simply be removed through a couple of clicks. I suppose youd rather spend all night emerging to fix a simple problem.
maybe the definition of constant should be changed from something that never changes to:
something that changes extremely slowly over the life of the universe, so slowly in fact that the species that have the intelligence to understand them will be long gone before the constants measurably change.
Maybe it doesn't mean anything. Maybe the calculations are off. Maybe the constant is changing. We are still here, so obviously it doesn't matter *that* much.
But im sure people who are extremists on both sides of the ID fence will somehow word it in such a way to support their own fanatical viewpoints.
"There's the oft prediction that once their income level rises to Western standards, they will cease to have so many children."
And how exactly does their income rise to western standards? Ill tell you. The over consumption of the earths resources, and the over utlilization of otherwise unspoiled lands.
Sweet, I can't wait untill all 10 billion of us consume more than we need!!!
Most people dont give a rats ass which OS runs on their embedded hardware. Only linux fan-bots care if the latest gadget has their favorite OS on it. Most of the rest of us, just want the damn thing to work without hassles.
I have come to expect so much ignorance and religion bashers on slashdot.
Either threads degrade into "MS is the Devil, Apple/Linux is the greatest" OR
Americans suck OR
people of Faith suck
You ignore the dozens of studies that show that when "people who actually beleive prayer works" pray for quicker/easier/better outcomes, but then when one comes along when a bunch of scientists who probably think its all hogwash "pray" and it doesn't have any significant effect (huh, how about that, what a surprise)
Its NOT about prayer. Its about faith. But carry on as you were, bash what you don't understand, lump all people of faith into "flat earthers" and "evolution haters" and everything else. What ever makes you feel better about your self and your own limited world view.
Maybe one day you will realize logic is the begining of wisdom, not the end. Maybe one day you will realize that the universe and life itself is like an iceberg. Science and analytical thought can only see and understand a small fraction of the whole of existence. Instead of mocking those who at least make an attempt at understanding the rest, maybe you should conduct your own spiritual journeys.
And dont lump all people of faith into the terrible person category because of a few vocal idiots in Kansas or in the middle east or anywhere else.
All this weeping and gnashing of teeth about Tivo reducing functionality...I haven't noticed any of it.
I use it for basic functions...I setup season passes, it records everything I tell it too, nearly flawlessly, and I can skip commercials.
I tried the PC based solution, and it was just too much hassle. Bizzare unsolvable video/audio synch issues, keeping the tv schedule/guide stuff uptodate and trouble free...driver conflicts, manual software updates...I might have saved some cash, but the amount of my very valuable time wasted trying to get it to work made it useless in my opinion.
Alot of us here are geeks, and I work all day solving technology based problems...when i get home and want to relax and veg on the couch for a bit, the last thing I want to do is figure out why something I wanted recorded isn't there or is borked up.
I love Tivo, because its easy to use and reliable.

For $10K, instead of storing juice, you can put up a 2-3kw solar system and MAKE it and sell it back to the power companies.

the problem with those issues is he can't figure out a way to get his user base to do his work for him.

besides grant funding and public attention for their pet theories?
And in other news, people who don't like certain viewpoints tend to supress those viewpoints...
...whether your a nazi in disguise as a neo-con or a tree hugging liberal college enviro-hippy.

sweet! then we can take the earth for ourselves, and no longer have to listen to the incessant mewling of everyone else on the planet!
