What we should be debating is not if artists should get paid. What we should be talking about is why we need these "Record Companies". They don't invest in artists they speculate on the artist exploitation market. They stifle the fair market(see payola). Frankly we don't need them. Any artist can throw their stuff up on the pirate bay. Any artist can buy web advertising for the cost of a couple of days of busking. As far as corporate media goes, fuck `em all let them find honest jobs. Artists can tour and or merchandise even writers can sell signed copies or quality prints. I'm also in favor of automatic reasonable cost patent access. I think I should be allowed to use whatever technology I want and pay a legally defined percentage of the money I make. A company should not have the right to deny me the use of a technology or price it out of my reach. Technology builds on technology. Without fire you can't make metal, without metal you can't make advanced tools without advanced tools you can't build advanced electronics. Now we have companies that have a death grip on this chain of progress.
Well the politicians don't make laws so YOU can win. It's your own fault really. When was the last time you gave a suitcase of money or a hooker to a politician? (the bailout doesn't count they spent that already)
I figure I'm just bitter enough to tell you all to go fuck yourselves. If I was any less bitter people would get left out. We couldn't have that now could we?
Because the parasite music companies engage in price fixing, payola and racketeering in order to steal our money. They profiteer off artists by the same corrupt methods. Because they lobby the government they get away with it. They steal from us as much as humanly possible. It's the kind of relationship THEY created. Now that they are getting the short end of the stick and the universe is balancing out they are crying like a bunch of little babies. Screw them let them starve if they all go out of business the world will be a better place.
Ask how much of the money the RIAA has won they shared with the artists.
When are you going to get another chance to scoop an investment out from under Megacorp? They obviously think that the company has something worth more than the money they are offering or they wouldn't offer. If they are stupid you don't want to work for them. If they are smart you should probably invest in your self anyway. If they bought you they own you and they would insist on a non-compete so you couldn't even go back out on your own. You sound emotionally driven, you want to be happy. Megacorps must grow profits. It is literally illegal for the officers of the company to make any choice favoring your happiness over the profits of the shareholders. I don't think these are compatible philosophies.

Reminds me of the old school BBS scene. I used to maintain BBS lists, trouble shoot people's connection issues, teach them how to use the technology. I ran a couple of BBSes and co-sysoped a few more. Eventually I even helped give out free basic internet e-mail and worked on community projects. Then the corporate/government parasites moved in. Now I'm capped, throttled and spied on. I get no credit or money for my contribution only the people who ruined it get paid.

No this is discouraged in most places. First off showing initiative is a threat to all the executives who have absolutely none. Secondly, people who show initiative do things they aren't forced to. This eats up budget and gets you in trouble. You are just given enough budget to give a little bit of poor quality steady state support. "BUT THE IDEA WILL SAVE MONEY!" you might insist. The truth is that in IT when you save a bunch of electricity for the company it will probably be premises that gets all the credit. When you improve the accounting tools then the accountants get a bonus for working harder. Someone is always eating the lunch you earned and you're just a cost centre no one has figured out how to offshore yet.
The question that needs to be asked is will this fine act as a deterrent and convince Microsoft (and onlookers) that swindling their customers is bad for business.
I would say no. They will continue to find ways to get one over on the customer and on the whole they will make more money by doing so. It's nice to see them lose a battle but they are clearly winning the war.
Finding a sleazier way to do things is what passes for innovation at Microsoft and this will hardly stop them.

I don't know this seems like the opposite to my experience.
I get no real stimulus from people talking other than irritation. It's like the buzzing of an insect. I have to force myself to fulfil the minimum requrements of human interaction and it never feels like it's worth it. Even getting laid usually is more trouble than it's worth.
That being said I wouldn't want to be "cured" as stunted abilities were compensated for by other abilities that were enhanced. My life's work depends on those enhanced abilities.

Justice won't have been done until the DA is in a jail cell for sexual interference with a minor. Kids will always start sexual exploration earlier than when we'd like for them to start having sex. The kids are likely to be shamed and sexually stunted..which is exactly what the major religions love to do to kids. These kids have been victimized by the law due largely to entrenched and disgusting religious morals that have no place in a modern society.
