That's more training than I received when I was employed at a telemarketing firm.
We had 5 hours of training the first day, 2 the next, then we were on the phones after that.
I couldn't stand going to work there after a few days. It was almost like fighting myself to go to work. I ended up quitting after a week. Their turnover rates were ridiculous, but I was surprised at the time to learn that they had 3 full-time training managers.
And also the fact that, on other operating systems, you normally run as an unprivileged user, and are required to escalate your privileges in order to make any system-wide changes. (or changes outside of your home folder)
I wasn't really expecting much when I saw this article. "Yay, another 'web' application." I must say, though, that the screenshots accompanying the article are extremely impressive. I'm sure if you put both Microsoft Office and ThinkFree in front of a user (the secretary/receptionist where you work, for instance), they wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.
Even with today's high-speed connections, it is definitely faster to edit a document from a web interface compared to downloading and installing OpenOffice. I will be using this site when I am out and about and not near a computer with MSOffice/OOo.
I build all my own machines from scratch, but what about laptop and notebooks? I've never seen a laptop or notebook that could be purchased without a Microsoft operating system pre-installed.
I shouldn't have to pay for something I am not going to use.:/ Anyone know of a place that sells laptops without an OS?
... they're correct. Any malicious software that gains root or administrator-level privileges can completely hose a system, regardless of operating system.
I don't know what is scarier/more sad though, the fact that some people know their systems are infected will install 101 different programs to control it, or the fact that some people who have been infected will never know what their machines are being used for (DDoS, phishing sites, etc.).
Yes, the optimal IT dept. consists of 3 people:
The BOFH
The PFY
and The Boss. Although, The Boss' only purpose is to serve as the fall guy. He is also easily replaced.
In other news, pornography much older than originally thought.

But I will not even consider purchasing an ATI card until they get their Linux compatibility (drivers) up to snuff.
I'd rather not be locked to one platform because of a piece of hardware.
I wish certain web browsers used threads properly, avoiding this problem entirely. :/

Call me crazy but I love Windows, IIS, ASP.NET and MS SQL.
;)
You, sir, are indeed crazy.
Or you work at Microsoft.

Electrical impulses could really help you "get the most" out of certain games methinks.

You can't use += like that... "colleges" would already need a value.
Microsoft: error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before '+='
GCC: error: syntax error before += token
Ahh, I had forgotten about Apple, thanks
... as they have a section for No-OS systems. http://www.pricewatch.com/m-335.htm

Am I the only one who feels more confused after reading TFA?
Is this supposed to be a joke, or some form of satire? A "jest" at "nerds"?
