Is virtual murder a crime? Is virtual bank robbing a crime? Well I'd say it is a crime, although the obvious punishment is sending your second life character to the jail for a life, and not you to the jail. But hey, that's just an opinion.
I don't know, could we get a brain please? Don't we want durability? Also, does everyone else notice that we need more RAM than 2MB to actually browse a webpage? How about reading PDFs? I think that giving them a computer that could actually be used is better.
As a matter of fact I wouldn't install any software. Mostly because I don't have to, lately with all those USB disks and things like portableapps you don't really have to install anything on others' computers.
Looking the problem the opposite way, this would help these countries to get away of these totally inconvenient pseudo standards, with more people using ODF this average joe will have to react. Either way.doc /.xls./ppt compat in OOo is doing "well enough" I don't think OLPC is supposed to be a computer for corporate Dilberts that will need every single feature to be correctly implemented.
Well, it is not like google is forcing you to sign it, so if you think it is evil just don't sign it. I think that after I signed it I am still able to say that all the contents of it had the same font size so there wasn't any "small print" so agreeing with that is your choice, really.
When I read both posts I just could think of something: Aren't we wasting too much time writing posts? Shouldn't someone try this experiment already and either kill the myth or find out it is not that much of a myth? Hmmm I guess I watched mythbusters way too much.
The first that came to my mind was "Wow US soldiers are actually allowed to blog and send email from the war zone?" I think it makes a lot of sense to either disallow them from doing that or filter all the messages. It is war, you get to fight, you don't go blogging about how bad was your day in Baghdad...
I guess slashdot becomes a political flamebait during US elections times , gosh this may become worse and worse within time I might have to stop reading this .
A: Well, in a way it is and in a way it isn't. Online activity is really quite fractured. Microsoft has the most visitors. Yahoo actually has people spending the most total time with them. And Google makes the most money.
He carefully said "visitors" and not users, so we (including Ballmer) can agree about this 'fact'.
Companies have got to follow a country's laws in order to have business in that country, period. Let the activism to governments, let World Savior George Bush free the Chinese people. Or much better, let the Chinese free themselves.
But of course, if you are extremely bad in that you will have issues everywhere, I would say the importance rate of this deal goes from 40% to 90% depending of the business.
Dear "Conspiracy Theorist 7.0" your data is actually worth 0.2 pennies , sorry but you are meaningless to everyone, as a matter of fact google does win more when you watch an ad than when they try to sell your information about how you like red heads naked. You are not important, seriously.
I'd like to congratulate this project for becoming a total failure.
I live in a third world country, let me say this: 175 $us is too expensive, that 75% more actually means a reduction in possible buyers by 90% (Although this statistic is totally made up, I am pretty sure this is the case, let's say 85%~95%), as a matter of fact, here it is possible to get a 'real' computer (Pentium I, which is enough for a child's computer, did you know?) for 150$us.
Now could I get a link to a serious comparison? How about one that actually verifies the total cost of implementing either? license, compatibility, training, and hardware - wise? Also include the total software cost required to use any of them to the total extent ? I actually heard that Vista does not come with microsoft office, so what is the cost of the actual software needed to run a vista PC?
Also if we were going to do comparisons of meaningless things, could we do it in a serious manner? Not in a "I checked the screenshot and these are my opinions" manner?
I am specifically talking about:
Vista's Add/Remove Programs panel probably served as the inspiration for Ubuntu's software management console.
All right "gtfo" Reviewer. Considering that ubuntu's package manager and vista's add/remove programs are outstandingly differente what the feck does this conclussion come from?
Can vista allow you to add repositories to the Add/remove programs dialog? Is it actually aware of what a repository is? Does it actually install software that is not in the vista CD, but actually downloadable if you really need it? Is that Add/Remove dialog actually more than an "Install those worthless windows programs that are not installed by default, else uninstall whatever you added to this computer" dialog? Seriously, this review was going pretty well until I found this disruptive minimization on the comparison on "Software Installation".
Not saying that the package manage is actually better than the usual way to install stuff in windows, but seriously this oversimplification of facts is awful.
Before we get a bunch of people chiming to say "but XXXXX is hard in ubuntu, since you need to open a terminal and type..."
I KNOW.
But the terminal is getting slowly removed from Ubuntu and replaced by GUI although you may still use the terminal if you like. You mention sudo apt-get which was already replaced by adept last time I checked, in fact I think all linux distros already agree about your +5 Captain Obvious statement, so could we please get a more serious criticism? Thanks.
I use personalized home page all the time and did not notice this glitch (although I did notice that some parts got borders now) , the summary doesn't ellaborate about whether this has happened to just 50 users or 500 or 5000. In fact after forcefully reading the article it doesn't mention more than one user?
A friend of mine is having issues with his Opera install, I'll wait for an article covering how users are fuming about the Opera glitches and stuff
Also, spending "several weeks" to craft a google home page might actually mean you deserve to lost it...
The problem is the latest in what seems a regular stream of technical glitches and availability problems affecting Google's online services. In the past six months, Google services like Blogger, Gmail and Google Apps have all experienced significant technical issues that have left users fuming.
Whenever you hear about Vista, you can hear plenty of things, including that it is a Mac OS/X ripoff . As a matter of fact that might be true, but I am starting to think vista is perhaps an MS satire about the competetion?
You see the awesome MS jokes about Mac OSX with that darker interface in comparison to Mac OS/X lighter one, and that search thing that is placed in a totally different position, we all love MS laughing on Mac OS/X additions like "Gadgets" and chess.
But is Mac the only victim of MS' convincingly put satire?
I would say not, since MS also incorporated features from another enemy, Linux. It is clear once you spend a week with Vista, you'll eventually notice that the different interface requires retraining, that there are almost no compatible drivers for vista and that Windows applications won't easily work in Vista either. And its performance issues will make it very hard to play any of the newest games
What's next you may ask? How about MS changing vista so you need to compile all your programs? That's "unlikely" you may think since MS is all pro closed source, but how about making.net compile code to a "semi code" that the user will still have to compile manually when installing to the computer? Don't underestimate microsoft, there are a lot of great linux they can steal.

Am I the only one who thinks that 10% faster does not mean 10% more money? I mean I wouldn't really expect the price/speed relation actually linear...

who the fuck cares about mod points? I bet you do since you used AC to post that, hehe.
Breaking news: Monopoly allows a company to create a totally deficient product and still sell it!

This is an overstatement.Isn't the domination of laser media a bigger problem? (Not implying it is, just asking)
I was trolling.
