That's probably a valid point for linux vs. windows although there are improvements. But in the case of open office I can hardly notice any difficulty of use
The next is unrelated to the parent:
I own an hp deskjet 3420 printer, it has got `issues when I try to print it from MSOffice there's a chance that a System Error dialog pops up, my printer wouldn't print anything in that case, when that happened I used to have to restart the PC plenty of times before the errror is gone.
After switching to OpenOffice (I got really good experiences of it when I tested Ubuntu, then decided to install it for windows as well) I figured out this weird problem will not happen anymore. In fact, when my brother uses msoffice and gets into this error and I try to print in openoffice it does print.
Isn't that kind of retarded? Do you really think that the only reason that person needs to kill someone is racist speech? If so, wouldn't him be some kind of psycho? In that case he would end up killing anyways.
I am a member of an often targeted race myself, but I'd rather let racist blogs exist than put free speech on peril, it is easy to screw freedom of speech starting with 'good intentions'. I am afraid that people who think they got the right not to ever be offended are the biggest danger to freedom of speec.
I would ban them if and only if they promote killing and other illegal stuff though.
1 How does the Phishing Protection feature work in Firefox 2?
Phishing Protection is turned on by default in Firefox 2, and works by checking the sites that you browse to against a list of known phishing sites. This list is automatically downloaded and regularly updated within Firefox 2 when the Phishing Protection feature is enabled. Since phishing attacks can occur very quickly, there's also an option to check the sites you browse to against an online service such as Google for more up-to-date protection. This enhanced capability can be turned on via the Security preferences pane.
if ms made some market research or something to figure out that the only feature of the other browsers they really had to add were tabs. From what I know unlike those who care about the esoteric topics like "Standard compliance" or "no active x" end users only liked the other browsers for the tabs (It is a shame, but true).
Let's see the possitive side of things, perhaps this means folder explorer will get tabs as well!
Yes, these guys complaining about they focusing on features and skipping the bugs are missinformed or jump to conclussions, anyone who upgrades to firefox 2 from 1.5.0.7 would notice that they are slowly improving the stability and memory usage. It is not like they would fix all the problems that cause them in a single update but since Bon Echo until this rc 3 I have noticed improvements.
Also even in that bugzilla page you can notice that some bugs are getting fixed, then there are some that are the fault of windows media player or the flash player (leak when playing wmv files, memory is increased 10 MB per second when playing flash)
That said, some guys seem to increase the numbers when posting on slashdot, I personally have never seen firefox go higher than 140 MB, and I have used it since its first versions. Also lately I can hardly make it go higher than 70.0 MB, and I use flash to watch youtube and play games.
I'd rather disable my internet connection than dealing with all the issues involved in using the open source version, it is simply way too difficult to install, really. I first tried to install that version but couldn't succeed at all, when I found the nvidia drivers package in ubuntu's synaptic and installed it as any other app it was great and it worked!
The fact their objective is to be "Ipod killers" is enough to notice how hard it is going for them to conquer market share. I think that no matter how good a product is it would take it at least a year to start being an actual competitor for the ipod.
Ctrl+tab switches between tabs in firefox. If you actually have 2 firefox windows for no reason then you can use the taskbar (you know, they do have the webpage's title as caption so you can recognize which one is it) Or I could keep alt+tab pressed so instead of instantly switching to next window I see the app switch window and find a firefox icon with the title of the web page I want. Also if you created a new window it is reasonable that it has a 2nd button in the task bar, or if you change the task bar's option to group buttons it will only have one, Whatever the user likes.
The ubuntu packagers always took a lot of time to update firefox. I decided to use the mozilla version of firefox like 1 week after I installed ubuntu because ubuntu's was still on version 1.0.7, I even found a tutorial on ubuntu's site on how to easily install mozilla's version.
On the iceweasel affair: I guess that people would either:
Not care, which happens everytime.
Or if they were firefox users before trying ubuntu they would probably not notice that iceweasel is ubuntu's browser and simply google for how to install firefox
LaTeX's objective is not to be WYSIWYG, and it is considered a feature that the user does not have to care about the layout, let me say that LaTeX seems to be better at generating layout for my documents than I am.
As an end user, I found mozilla's firefox package to be much more convenient than the one included by ubuntu and I could use sudo firefox to use auto update which made it actually work instead of Being forced to use an outdated version which - I knew- had security issues, ubuntu developers seriously take their time to update the firefox package.
I personally don't think mozilla really distrust debian as much as they distrust companies outside (those not exactly whitehat developing companies that would love to make their own "Firefox") It is just that they shouldn't have any exception, letting Debian do it would make it harder to enforce against other cases.
What I really dislike are aesthetics not really the functionality. Bon Echo Alpha had mostly the same functionality but was really beautiful for me, I can't understand what made them chose such an ugly default theme. Seriously.
Everybody else
-> There is not sufficient evidence to really change our policy (this btw, is unfortunately very true)
-> Therefore CO2 does not cause problems (this conclusion may be true, but the honest answer is : we don't know)
Hello, I am not a frigging environmentalist. But this sickens me off, why do it call it the `green house effect? Do you know what a green house is? Green house do work! and let the warm increase and all that is caused by CO2 . Now if you think about it, evidence is required to proof that CO2 DOES NOT CAUSE Global Warming. I am sorry but it is not the opposite.
Although I agree, a provisional fix is to tell noscript to hide the bar after 5 seconds, it gets far less annoying and when joining new sites it is still easy to notice the bar.

Seriously speaking the long boot time was the biggest downfall I could notice when comparing Kubuntu vs. Windows XP in this computer.

I always configure windows boxes as part of my job and I can ensure you that it does ask you the first time.
Yet they invited the windows users to get an antivirus but their production windows computer didn't have one
I would worry still cause this also means that they have a really low quality control.

Firefox 3 will use new gecko which passes the acid 2 test.

What is an open source logo? Since when do we compile images?

They are a great last resource though. If XXXX country is taking your country and going to replace your government, nuking them is not that bad.
I think Oprah would be jealous ...
I am a counter-example myself, also my math grades were the best among my class, seriously.
