but once your (corporate superior entity) requires you to do something even if it is against company policy you do it.
I hope I never have to live in a world where people always do that. I'm quite sure I don't want to see what happens when people do what their told to do by a superior without regard to laws or morals.
I have to disagree with you there. I like the fact that the cows I have butchered locally taste different. The bland crap that is served most places might be consistent, but it is consistently crappy IMHO. However, we're both totally OT now!:)
While it has nothing to do with your main point about knot-free wood, the price drop has more to do with the high inventory of building supplies after a year of almost no building going on.
...is not really something you want to hear as a decision maker who's heavily invested in the format...
The same could be said of VAX/WANG systems. I don't care if we're "heavily invested in the format". If that format is preventing me from reaching 66% of the mobile browser market, then I better become un-invested in that format. Quickly.
You know, from recent news, those speaking "Come on buddy all you gotta do is pick up a weapon", "Well it's their fault for bringing their kids into a battle", and apparently enjoying it (laughing at the least)
I'll take insensitive soldiers who laugh while killing people that they think (incorrectly) are attacking their fellow solders over solders that rape and murder women and children, knowing full well what they're doing. That is the way it has been done for centuries, from vikings to normans to the invasion of Kuwait. Having insensitive solders who think it is a game is one of the less horrible stories from war. The fact that this is "progress" is one of the many reasons war should not be unleashed.
The iPad web surfers are ones that have already shown that they'll drop $100s on a product they really didn't need. Why WOULDN'T website operators bend over backwards to get them to their site?
I want the ability to play streaming music and use the GPS at the same time. Think about where I want to use that: In my car, with its own portable power plant. I, like most people with a longer commute, have a power adapter for my car. Battery life doesn't matter when you're plugged in. In fact, if Apple just enabled 3rd party multitasking only when plugged in I'd be thrilled.
I'm guessing that's because the USA has so much more land area.
That argument works for Texas. It doesn't work for LA. Simple fact is that we spend more money, burn more oil and kill more people by making huge Interstate highway systems around major metros rather than spend the money on mass transit.
Yeah, go tell it to my IT department and they will politely tell you to fuck off. Approved devices only.
Well, then that is an issue with your company wanting to piss money away. You're not the idiot in this case, they are.
Also, I don't want to push my tablet computer across a conference table so somebody else can read it. Much easier with a piece of paper.
There are two types of things I see in meetings: Information that everyone needs to see during the meeting (use a projector), and information that everyone needs to review later (use email). Paper is less effective than either of these, or both combined if needed
And what if I want to print a copy for everybody? Take 5 tablet PCs?
Yes, or more to the point, they should have their own. Email all of them. If your company is this paper-centric, replacing the printers that must be scattered all over the place (and their paper, and their toner, and their repair contracts) with tablets would save money and allow business to move faster (how much time do you waste at the copier?).
It's fairly short-sighted and selfish do immediately disregard everyone that prints email as "stupid" or "just stubborn"
Not really:
- Easier for them to read on paper than a monitor
e-ink display if eye strain is the issue, learn to use zoom if size is the issue.
- They can easily annotate with corrective marks, shapes, arrows, comments
Tablet computer. They can also forward their notes to everyone else without creating more paper.
- Collate and file the message away with other paperwork
In a file folder that you have to thumb though while saying "I'm sure I have that email in here somewhere", rather than a folder system in your email that is accessible anywhere in the world that has a Internet connection?
- Just don't like using computers for whatever reason and prefer a hard copy
Ok, explain how that isn't "stupid" or "just stubborn" considering how much cost is associated with printing, how much harder it is to work with (try doing legal discovery with mounds of paper), how much harder it is to share information, and how much it hurts the environment. I'm not targeting my anger at you per se, I've just had to deal with too many people that want everyone else to spend more time and money working around their antique way of doing business.
Ever hear of a tablet computer? I can't imagine they cost more than a printer, paper, and toner that you would use over the lifetime of the tablet. Wait another month or so and get a iPad and call it done for under $500.
BTW, interesting how the exterior temp rose near the apex of the flight - I'm not sure I understand why. But then, this is almost rocket science.
My guess is that sensor was reading heat from direct solar radiation. While surrounded with air, it would lean more towards air temp, which goes down as you go up. Once there is no more air, you're getting very hot when facing the sun or very cold when facing away.
People stopped using 9600 baud modems a long time ago, so I'm not sure how many bits I get--or even kilobits
The people that I want to see get broadband still measure their speed in bits. My sister gets 22,000 bits per second, my dad is lucky to get 19,200 if the wind is right. Dialup still exists in remote areas and still sucks. Those are the people that need at least 5mb before I get my 10mb upgraded to 100mb.
Eyewitness reporter Charlie Cole believes that the man was taken away by secret police and was just one of the many executed in the aftermath of the military crackdown, since the Chinese government was never able to produce him after the images became public.
No, he wasn't run over, he was made a nonperson. That doesn't make me feel any better about it.
I see the point you're trying to make, but the difference between censoring a mash up of Smurfs and StarWars on YouTube and blocking access to human rights organizations is like the difference between me saying your momma is fat versus raping her.
I take it as an option to pay more for more of what you already like. You paid for a game & thought it was a good enough deal based on the advertised features and reviews of the game. So, you part with your money and pay for the game. Later, you find out that there is MORE to the game that you didn't even expect. However, if you want MORE, you have to pay MORE. So, if the game wasn't as good as you thought, or isn't worth $5 more, fine, you're not out any money. However, if you really love the game, then you get to pay the game company more for creating such a good game.
You're under the mistaken impression that you own data. You don't own the data on that disc, you own a license to some of the data on that disc. If you owned the data, it wouldn't be illegal for you to copy it or reverse engineer it.
You mean, evidence other than the exploding rig and the resulting oil spill?
The good news is that there is sure to be some worms that will exploit IE6 and maybe after that the corporations will finally move off it it.
I hope I never have to live in a world where people always do that. I'm quite sure I don't want to see what happens when people do what their told to do by a superior without regard to laws or morals.
I agree with you, maybe he should have been fired. However, do you think that he deserves prison time for it?

Wow, 13 minutes & no juvenile responses to that line? Slashdot has been reformed? What's next, KDawson submitting good stories?
I even call my wife "dude". It has been gender neutral for a while now.

Take a look at this page on NASA's website: http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/photos/imagedetails/index.cfm?imageId=3919 If it is a hoax, then NASA is going all-out.

IIRC, the serial barcode is even visible outside the box, so the teller can scan it in at the time of purchase.

RTFA before posting. It just maps IP to street address.
