You actually made a good point, but I don't understand why you did it AC. OpenSolaris is a great kernal, with amazing technologies, cleaner code, and better debugging support, very stable ABI interface. The only big hole right now in its adoption is the lesser number of device drivers.
That is changing too with folks like OSS coming forward and providing their drivers into OpenSolaris.
Also, I don't understand why you're waiting for Solaris to go gplv3. CDDL is basically GPL-the viral clause.
Holding back participating, due to the this viral clause, has never made sense to me.
Ah.. But do you know one of the inside lores. They emptied one up, made a wall transparent, put in a few chairs/tables, and had the executives work from in there in full public view on April fools:)

I'm not sure about the GPS, but does have Sun Spots, which have accelerometers on them, which can detect motion in all three dimensions. This is probably the pager you heard about. I know because I have one of these!
Another Indian thing is open source equated to Linux. There is a very active OpenSolaris UG[1] in Bangalore and many other cities if you're interested in contributing to the many open projects here..
In fact, Java does a pretty good job of keeping the GUI looking same as much as possible on different platforms. Reading through the website, I dont see any feature that makes it anything more than a Java wanaabe.
"We have tons of scientific evidence showing how old the Earth is"
We have tons of evidence for a whole load of other stuff. You don't get the right to be so virtuous just because you choose to believe one scientific branch. Its the whole way of reason and rationality, or nothing.
I really can't believe this debate (and the same "yeah, me too!") still comes up and gets modded insightful all the time. The point is not that Christianity's God wants you to worship him through his own insecurity, but that the bible says that the natural state for humans is to worship him -- that humans are happiest when they do so.
That would be ZFS, built from the scratch to avoid the problems faced by traditional filesystems. It is, in fact, a volume-manager+file system, with RAID built into it.
Not to mention the very easy to use commands.
COW has been present for a long time in ZFS since Solaris 10. The overhead there is negligible and its quite stable. Last I heard, it was being ported to FUSE on linux. Upcoming in the next releases of FreeBSD and OSX.
Wiki has a pretty good article.
That is incorrect.
You are referring to known plaintext attacks, and modern encryption algorithms are built to be safe against these. (Of course it wont work if you've used a dictionary password, but then no amount of secure algorithms can help you.
The Data Loss Database - Open Source has almost 510 events and over 143 MILLION compromised records as of this writing. 100 million? Dudes and dudettes, we had that over six months ago.
Mommy mommy.. why did this have to happen?????! Couldn't the little fairy come down, give the utorrent guy lots of money and stop having utorrent bought out? And maybe give a select few a view of the source!

Ah yes.
I'll get right on it, Sir. Lets start PETMaT, People for the Ethical Treatment of thermodyamics
I smell a meme in the making
" needs a little extra push for to take hold of their dreams"
Funny? Haha's a perfectly cromulent response..

There, do you see where the logic went wrong?
Yeah in the same sense that a guy agrees to allow 10*50 to be 550 rather than 60 billion.
"Hey, atleast he's getting closer to the truth"
Ha.. tell that to the "Psychotherapist" who had his domain name ordered!

Well in his defense, he carried the one, only into the helium in TF summary.
