  1. Re:Common Sense on Study Says Cosmic Rays Do Not Explain Global Warming · · Score: 1

Not only that but I don't think anyone said that global warming means that is going to be warmer all the time. Global Warming is supposed to bring more erratic weather patterns and stronger occurrences. So winter might very well be even colder and produce more snow as a result of Global Warming. For the record I am not saying I believe or or not, just saying what I understand to be the issue.

Sensible? Larry Silverstein said in an interview on PBS that they decided to pull the building (7) because of the fire. What exactly do all of you smart fellers on /. suppose "pull the building" means?

The Towers? They fell because some airplanes hit them. I think that is understood. Why building 7 fell, much less caught on fire, is where the investigation needs to be. I guess I am just a conspiracy theorist nut though.

Actually you can brew beer at home but if you want to distill spirits you need a license. I went to setup a still years ago and bought a book that stated this. In Canada you are allowed to distill spirits at home.

The way many distill can leave unwanted impurities in the alcohol and they can lead to such things as blindness and even death. I am not saying I agree with this but it is the reason why the ATF still goes after moonshiners and you need a license to set up a still.

I agree, but let's not forget the system he had in place before the election and how that helped him. The first question I had after he was elected was what will he do with this massive communication system he has built? Seems he intends to keep using it, which I think is a step in the right direction.

Thank you. If someone is just applying a patch or installing some service because a vendor said so then they are not a sys admin. Sometimes, when an admin has to implement a new service for a company they need to stop and think. Where I come from this is what we call due diligence. You know, planning and all that. Trying to be aware ahead of time os the impact it may cause. This may be to some, lore and on the job learning, to me it is the job. If I let a vendor tell me what to do with my systems I deserve to be beaten.

The question posed is the same one I have except my kid is 7 and I am wondering if it is ok for him to have an ubuntu box. I am OLPC he plays with but when is a good time for him to move on. I have an old T42 with ubuntu 8.04 that I use but is it ok for him to just dive in? I think at 7 he still needs to playing outdoors and learning social skills, making friends et al. I certainly don't want him to be an introverted dork like me and sit on /. all day.

That is a good point but with the bailout we are paying it anyways. So we can either pay now(bailout), or pay later(Social Security or other Gov. support). Either way we are gonna pay. I think a bigger problem is not that the auto industry goes down, but all the industries that the auto industry does business with will be hurt. It has the potential to stretch way beyond those union voters and corporate overlords.
