Unless the ISP's find a way to make money off of the music and film industry's blunders. I would be sending the film and music industry's a bill for services provided. If they don't like that, then they can get out of the business of music and film.
I believe this is why the The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation has the investigation in the first place. Even if they filled out a form twice, some are bound to think the info is for the same offer. Many times I have re-entered information and confirmed a order. And because they are asking for the last 4 digit SSN it makes the offer look even more like the same offer. This would look like a confirmation to some people. Don't let the online loyalty programs fool you... they know exactly what they are doing, look at how long they have gotten away with it.
"The rollout of the new technology comes at a critical juncture for the movie industry. DVD sales, once a financial mainstay for Hollywood, have fallen as much as 25% at some studios."
It's there fault. What do you expect when Disney doesn't make DVD's the same as everyone else!
If I can't burn it to DVD, then they might as well hang their bright idea up. It wont go far. I am not going to depend on a few services, not to have problems, just when i want to sit down, and watch a movie or two. What happens when you change providers? Computer crash? So much is dependent on a few services to deliver. I would lots rather go to the local DVD store, and purchase the DVD, and store it in my collection of DVDs. Disney doesn't even make compliant DVDs, I have to play their DVDs in a cheap older DVD player because it wont play in the Sony which is a very expensive system. Sheesh.
Plus I picture in the near future people crying foul because of Keychest. They don't use a iphone, or have that certain cable service, or dish. Or they don't get their Internet with AT&T or verizon. Quite possibly they don't want their computer tied up for hours, just so the kiddies can watch a few Disney flicks. And the cell phone is off limits. I can see the bill now./weebit cringes.
Most germs are killed with heat. Most people take hot showers, the hotter, the better. So most people don't have to worry.... um.... unless you are the few percentage that takes cold showers. heehee
"But finally, one researcher broke ranks and explained that the patch was caused by a flaw introduced in Microsoft's own development tools. This flaw was also the source of the emergency ActiveX patch."
Or one could say that Microsoft was making a mountain out of a molehill.
So what else was in that patch?
I have a right to question Microsoft's antics . After all, they made me paranoid.
What happens if they fall face first on that mat?
Help! I fell, and can't get up. Oh wait! I can't breath either!
I also get the picture of a poor dead mouse with wide bulging eyes, and body stuck in a awkward position.... now replace the mouse with a human.
You don't sue Microsoft either... If you had a passenger in your car... They sue you for failure to maintain vehicle. The police also writes you a ticket for that same reason.
Laws are now in place stating they have to use every means to protect your personal data. So you could sue... but how do you sue a business because they did not protect your data? I mean really we have a lot of inept computer users out there hooked up to the internet. The only thing they know how to do is turn it on, read email, visit a few websites, look at the happy videos, and log off. There bosses are no different.
"I'd also go further and require that any software shipping with DRM that restricts any fair use rights should be required to have exactly what rights it restricts, and how it restricts them, labeled on the outside of the box."
Yes and certain companies will continue to put out crappy software, because they know they can get around the higher quality seal of approval.
Of course this could turn out to be a plus, but certain companies don't have millions sitting in a bank to hold them over until they can release a product that does have that seal of approval. Now add to all of this mayhem the cost of the software. It will raise the cost of software because it will be held longer in limbo while tested, tried, and so on. Which if you think about it doesn't make much sense because computer hard ware is a always improved upon industry. By the time your brand new computer is three months old it is obsolete. The software may not even work on it. Not to forget the stress this will cause on the security software industry. May even slow down this portion of the industry.
Unless they work on the dates of release of the software, and start putting dates that the software will run on such and such hardware. Then you will have many versions of the same software to coincide with the dates on hardware. But how many consumers will actually want to have to deal with this too?
Users suing the RIAA and ISPs for not allowing the user to argue their case. Plus not allowing the user to see the evidence against them.
What this is about is the RIAA is losing lawsuits. So they have changed their strategy to the next cheapest thing they have on their list. After all this is all about money. Doesn't matter if the user is guilty or not. Just follow the money.
I am not picking on the Montgomery Alabama or New York City craigslist I am just using them as a example.
Montgomery Alabama: the search for w4m in the personals section Found: 825 Displaying.
New York City: the same personals section for w4m got a total Found: 1000 Displaying for New York City.
I noticed that some of the ads leave nothing to the imagination. Wow these people got balls, plus a few other things too. Who knew is was so easy to "ahem" hook up. Any thing you desire is right there on craigslist.
They are getting desperate.

Now if we could get Jennifer Granick to feel the same way about proprietary software

The developer: Call our insurance company see if we are covered!
Insurance company: You haven't met your deductible as of yet, and we don't cover new coders, or new hardware.

Follow the cash.

Yes and before long, all of Australia (and the world) will have a list of the forbidden websites.
They wont be secret then.
