In Pennsylvania, the law (or at least how it was described to us) was that you couldnt throw away anything in a school, but you could 'donate' it to a recycling center. Of course donating it to there, costs you money, since they need to process it, wipe hard drives, throw away junk, melt down things if needed, and then auction them off to whoever they feel like.
This of course costs money, a certain price per pound, something on the average of 50 cents i think it was. Although we were in an economically wrecked area, where many students didnt even have computers at home, we were not allowed to give them even the most basic windows 98 machine for example. We had to pay for it to be sent to a company to be 'recycled'.
Administrators get really ticked off when you give students broken computers for free.
Working in a mac repair store, even calling apple, the most likely response you would get for a problem would be 'reinstall the OS'. 2nd most likely would be 'replace the logic board'.
Unfortunately for both mac and windows, that usually the best route, as troubleshooting small issues by using 3rd party tools, etc. will usually just junk up your system more.
At least it is better than DirecWay (HughesNet)'s 120mb/day, which if you had the unfortunate circumstance of running a business off of it, would hit the cap in the first 2 hours of each work day just from emails.
He also doesnt tend to mention heat. The Dell XPS's, though large and clunky, are quite powerful, but youre able to sit them on your lap for an extended period of time, and even play a game like that for a short amount of time.
A macbook pro, any size, gets to like 140 degrees doing absolutely nothing because its not ventilated properly, as well as it being made of metal, which conducts more heat. those things will scorch you like crazy if you sit them on your lap.
and yes, i understand theyre "notebooks" not "laptops" anymore, but the general populous is still going to want to sit this thing directly in front of them occasionally, if they dont have a desk to put it on.
My motorola v325 is an extremely QUIET phone. turning any ringer up to full volume, while having the thing in your pocket (with the speaker facing your leg), you can barely hear it in an environment with little noise.
its battery doesnt last very long unfortunately, but when the battery is almost dead, the phone becomes EXTREMELY LOUD, beeping louder than any ringer, mp3, sound, etc. that i can put on my phone. I just wonder why the phone cant be that loud to begin with!
its definitely not hard to pvp in WoW, depending on who youre fighting, but FPS takes about 23092u3% skill more than WoW does. I was just saying that the guy who said it was carebear-like probably never played pvp.
Windows has a lot of holes, sure. but ~95% of the people who use computers, use windows. including people who want to damage it, and just piss people off by sending out malware, and hacking the crap out of it.
If OSX had that kind of a market share, youd bet your ass that everyone would be breaking down its walls, in exactly the same way.
Lets say you want to create a virus, or an annoying spyware/malware thing. Would you rather it effect Apples measly market share, or Microsofts dominant machine?
Most mac users are just as dumb as most windows users, they just tend to have some sort of superiority complex. Ive worked with os9, osX, and windows, and theyve all got their major and minor flaws, neither is really better than the other, from a sheer 'does this work' standpoint.
"By comparison, 500 GHz is more than 250 times faster than today's cell phones, which typically operate at approximately 2 GHz, according to the organizations."
Wow, I didnt realize my cellphone was so -fast-
I dont think the writer really knew what he was talking about, why would they compare cellphone frequency to the speed of a computer chip otherwise?
www.newegg.com, get a 35$ dvd burner, and a 25$ external usb2 enclosure, pretty not bad for portability, if youre wanting it to be modular, i wouldnt doubt itd be over 150 for the internal part from your manufacturer.
By Apple:
"Oh my GOD a new piece of Apple hardware??! I wonder if it syncs with my iPOD!?...how much does it cost?? 700$? OKAY! Anything for STEVE JOBS!"
Winamp 5, it kicks the crap out of itunes in nearly every aspect, except having an online music store. its faster, skinnable, uses less memory, has a smaller desktop footprint, etc.
Spyware isnt so much of a problem if people know not to install it.
Through education on how to use your current software, including the OS, telling people not to "punch the monkey" or click "whos legs are these??" and telling them not to install random crap on their computer, you can really improve the way people use their PCs.
Its not difficult to do this, and if you just have one training session, thats a lot better than having several hours spent per computer trying to recover its data/reinstalling programs or OS software.
Think about it. if you knew not to install something on your computer that you had no idea what it was, and your IT department told you not to do that kind of stuff, wouldnt you be more likely to not click "ok" when something asks to install?
"Widgets" have been around for YEARS. Apple didnt invent the concept of them. Vistas mail looks alot like a slightly less complicated version of outlook 2003. not apple mail.
"If he knew what the hell he was doing, he wouldn't need to be in my class in the first place."
Thats not necessarily true. Most employers these days dont give a damn about your skills that you say you have, you couldve read every MCSE book there is and know everything in it, as well as Cisco hardware and IOS in and out, it wouldnt matter to an employer unless you had that little line on your resume that says...
"Bachelors Degree"
or what have you, associates, masters, whatever. The student may be in a class just because he needs proof that he took the class, not because he necessarily needs to learn the things the teacher teaches.
Ive used iTunes, I used to work at a mac service/sales store. I personally dont like iTunes, its slow, it uses a lot of memory, and its not skinnable etc.
I have been a huge fan of winamp since version 2.x, Winamp 5 seems to do everything that iTunes does, except have the online music store. Most of the people i know only use iTunes for the ipod sync feature. Theres actually a plugin for that on winamps site, its free, and it seems to work even faster than iTunes syncs an ipod.
So wheres the statistics for Winamp users in this thing? I have never seen anyone actually USE realplayer, for one. The only thing realplayer is good for is playing realplayer files. Which doesnt seem to be very common on the web anymore, most videos being in Windows Media format or Quicktime.
Id just like to see winamp user stats on this page as well, anyone else use Winamp?

plus, it teaches people to have a backup!
after that, they cap you to 56k!

You must not have tried a PVP server. thats kill or be killed, for the most part. theres about 8 areas out of 50 you cant attack people randomly.
Wasnt 2040 the date you got to put in a Fusion Power Plant in SimCity 2000? I could be wrong.
Personally id like to get the guys sending the "Free VblAGRA!" or maybe the "Free VasdAGRA!"
God knows i could use some VasdAGRA....?

6. Believe apple is the end all be all of design and function.
7. Hate windows cuz you havent used it since 1998
