Where is the strength in pointing? I mean, its sure a nice thing to have and useful in some games, but we had lightguns for years and they haven't really revolutionized the gaming much at all.
Have you ever played a FPS? The wiimote is not a lightgun, is a pointing device as capable as a mouse and more intuitive when pointing to a screen.
They have some good looking concept art there, but I'd like to see in-game stills. Also, this looks interesting:
Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) by Pixelux Entertainment
What is DMM? DMM -- exclusive to LucasArts for any game releases through September 2008 -- brings an unprecedented level of realism to the new generation of consoles by making completely interactive environments that react as they would in real life. From crumbling walls to shattering glass and even swaying organic plant life, in-game objects have material properties that behave realistically all in real time and without using a single frame of animation.
Agree. When I got tired of sailing I'd just play the Ballad of Gales to teleport near to my next destination. Maybe most of the complainers never learned it.
While Kotick has a bright outlook, he sees 'full downloadable games' as being 'so far in the future that it's almost incomprehensible.' This would seem to be contradicted by the success of online avenues such as Valve's Steam system, Xbox Live and Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console."
It's not only incomprehensible, but quite ignorant as well. After all, it's only a matter of time before owners can download illegal copies of games using the very console they're going to play them with.
If I were Activision's CEO, I wouldn't be as optimistic as he is... I'd be desperately looking for a way to avoid this.
I think the author of TFA got it just right. I'm almost 40 years old, now. My wife and I just had our first child last week. I barely have time to log into here to catch the news, much less any inclination for paying that much money for a console to play inferior games to what you get on the PC.
Good point, but wait 7-10 years, and you'll see yourself buying a PS6/Xbox2520/Nintendo Cowabunga.
Children and college kids don't have money, but their parents sure do...
I have been waiting for this conference for a very long time, and I am very satisfied from what I saw. This is because I expected only a few games and a reduced set of new ideas, but the (very short) demo of the WarioWare franchise showed that people at Nintendo have been thinking and creating innovative ways to interact with the games.
Even though I was not expecting "Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer" quality graphics, I can't deny I'm slightly dissapointed with the gameplay graphics, they seemed a little too cartoonish (specially the Wii Sports and WarioWare). Anyway, it is just a matter of time for developers to start using all the Wii's graphic capabilities (think Mario Sunshine vs. Resident Evil 4, both for Gamecube).
So maybe, Nintendo's efforts were focused on inspiring and showing what can be done with the new wii user interface (wui? wuii?) so third parties can create beautiful (now that I think again, the Final Fantasy video was amazing...) and fun games.
Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk, Madden... a very impressive line up if you ask me...
I'm definitely getting one of these as soon as I can. And I don't care about the childish name, at all. Hell... even if it were pink and called "Barbie's dreamy console" I would buy one.

Give players rewards for killing farmers.
It's very simple, allow guilds or single players to receive a % of the gold of each farmer they kill. Even in PvE servers.
Even better, make it a quest. "Hunt and kill 50 farmers to get [rare item]".
"Korean gamers are are worshipped as Gods, by hardcore gamers"
Here, fixed it for you...
I could easily see it being something that is fun for 20 minutes and then gets annoying (or tiring).
welcome our new "drunk bimbo" videogames console overlords

I'm just curious...Am I the only one that sees a 3rd party manufacturer if not Nintendo themselves releasing a wireless standard controller?
The revolution standard controller is wireless, let's just hope it's not as heavy as the GC wavebird...
