Why is this news? YouTube says if you notice a video that is hosted without permission of copyright holders to let them know and they will remove it, and this is just one japanese corporation using that policy?
Tonight @ 11: My bank stops sending me paper statements upon my request! SHOCKING!
Is it just me or is Slashdot turning more and more like Digg+1hr or Digg+1day? Don't get me wrong, I prefer Slashdot over Digg any day of the week, but lately its been very noticeable.
Bullsh*t, weather is such a chaotic system that any attempts to model it will fail MISERABLY, regardless of computing power.
I'm certain that even if ever single computing device on the planet worked on this calculation for years and years, there is still no way it could be accurate. The only real way to model it would be to model the entire solar system down to the quantum (perhaps even sub-quantum level). The resultant computing device would need to store information about every single atom in the solar system. What this boils down to is that no one can predict the weather because the machine used to predict it would itself change weather patterns by changing the heat/number of atoms in the solar system.
Now if you build it way out in the interstellar void.... then maybe.... but it will only predict weather until next week! =P
Making WGA mandatory doesn't mean ALL illegal copies of windows will be shut off, only the ones that have WGA installed.
You can do a fresh (and illegal) install of Windows from the leaked corporate verion floating around, load SP2 on it (you can download SP1 and SP1, directx, media player 10, etc as 'standalone' installer packages and get around the whole WGA issue), and just completely turn off automatic updates. Without WGA installed, the OS will never phone home and will never be deactivated. Problem solved?
However, not having WGA installed will prevent future security updates and bug fixes, which means you'll have to take care to use a firewall and/or anti-virus apps accordingly, and install apps which won't bog you down with spyware/malware/adware (which unfortunately the general public mostly doesn't do, but this solution works for any semi-intelligent individual).
In all seriousness, the reason sniping works is because when someone becomes the highest bidder he/she forms an attachment to the item. If this person sees someone else has outbid them, they take it personally and bid even higher, and in many cases much higher than they would originally have bid, just to win and to "show that other guy that this item is MINE" and because no matter what anyone says, no one wants to LOSE, everyone wants to WIN.
I snipe every time I use eBay, bidding my highest amount within the last 10 sec, and it works wonders.
The authority of the Federal government to declare state statutes that affect only that state unconstitutional is something I am against.
In unrelated news, the state of Alaska has today signed the following bills into state law:
- All state elementary, middle school, high school, colleges and universities are now considered faith-based organizations, and can only be attended by white male catholics
- Black people can no longer vote, and only count as 3/5 of a person in the state census
- Slavery is now legal
- All media or speech of any type is subject to arbitrary censorship from by the state government
So wait a minute, Intel's brand-spanking new processor can outperform AMD's 1 year + old processors? Big whoop. I would've been genuinely impressed if Intel had released these simultaneously to AMD's processors, now I simply feel that my intelligence has been insulted by Intel acting like it has to prove its new processor is all that and a bag of potato chips. Everyone's heard of Moore's Law, everyone expects a processor released over a year after a competitor to be better. What's Intel going to do when AMD releases a mega mack daddy processor that blows them out of the water in a few months?
The Moviebeam player also requires a connection to a phone jack -- every fortnight the box dials a toll-free number in the middle of the night to tally how much you've spent on movies so far, for the benefit of your monthly statement.
So how long before ppl hack it and release a patch that modifies the outgoing packets from this device to report $0.50 of movie usage when in reality you were watchin $100 of 24/7 movies? Also, is there HD available? (I haven't read TFA, as you can probably tell)
Jesus H. Christ. What's with the paranoia? While you were obsessing and whining over your "OMFSPIFFYLINUXMICROSOFTISTHEDEVILBBQPVVN3D" network, your wife was banging her MS-Fanboy intern. How's that for an unallowed MS intrusion?
I recently built a godly gaming PC and purposefully picked a plain looking, stainless steel Antec case. Forget those "OMGNEONLIGHTSSEETHROUGHPURELIQUIDSPEEDBBQWPWN3D" cases, I went for a nice clean look, and I love it.
OH YAY! Look everyone, a 11.7MB program that simply checks a few things on your computer, then tells you the result! I could have done this better with a couple dozen if statements:
if(installed ram min requirement) cout "NEED MORE RAM" if(free HD space min requirement) cout "NEED MORE HD SPACE" etc, etc
Does anyone know why this program takes up 11.7MB after installation?

A more fitting SN for her would have been "IGotBurnedByRIAA" :P

In Soviet Russia, auctions snipe YOU!!

I, for one, welcome our hurricane-simulating, house-destroying, Linux-running overlords.
Dude Al Gore isn't after Bigfoot, he's after ManBearPig. Get your facts straight.

Why was there not even a single mention of StarCraft? WHEN WILL STARCRAFT 2 COME OUT?! That's the only question that matters.
OMGWTFBBQ?!1! I'm normally a stickler for that kinda stuff, I can't believe I let one through....
Yo ho ho ho, a PIRATE'S LIFE FOR ME!
*dances a merry jig*
Umm wait a minute, do pirate's dance merry jigs? =P
How much you guys wanna bet some people will either:
A) Say that this is causing global warming
B) Say that this is being caused by global warming

It looks like the source already self-destructed.... anyone have an alternate link? I'm getting some database error.
You own an SUV don't ya?

It's ok... *pats you on back*
