From the link that you mention which talks about the Web 2.1 server side blink, it states:
Note: if you did not see the blinking text above, it means that your browser is not compliant with the Web 2.1 standards. An easy way of checking whether your browser is standards compliant is to check whether the installation files for your browser were smaller than 50MB, or the run-time memory usage is less than 300MB. If this is the case, you should download a more recent browser to get the full Web 2.1 experience.
Umm Mozilla Firefox displays this blinking fine, is WAAAAY under a 50MB install file, and it takes up no where near 300MB of memory when running. What was this guy smoking? Or am I just missing something?

Also, electricity suffers resistance when it travels through metal, creating HEAT and LOTS of it (I've heard its not uncommon for the latest P4's to operate around 70dec C under full load with stock cooler). Light on the other hand, travelling through optical cable or through air or vacuum, is offered no resistance (or so little that it barely generates any appreciable heat).

Room temperature processors anyone? This would be great for eliminating the wear and tear and thermal breakdown caused by heating/cooling when turning your comp on and off. I believe the speed difference between electricity and light (while it may be significant through specific mediums) would be negligible? We're talking distances of micrometers, and 2 or 3 cm at worst (think of the size of a processor die).

Out of the question. I work with a government contractor as a software engineer and all I can tell you is that there are devices that interface with WinXP over USB 2.0 and are essential to the correct and continued operation of military aircraft.

Before any of you take my flamebait and start putting up smart responses to why the govn't is irresponsible for using WinXP for important things like this, please calm down, put down that crazy-religious-zealot-like microsoft-is-the-devil torch and admit that WinXP is a reliable OS. taxes are nothing more than theft, and I have no moral problems with those who are able to find ways to get out of it.
So you would also have no problem with:
    1) No police to stop vandals from raping your wife and killing your kids because there is no money to fund a police force (and no money for 911 system either)
    2) No firefighters to put out your burning house (that the vandals lit in step #1) because there is no money to fund firefighters
    3) No clean water to drink because there is are no money to fund water processing / distribution facilities
    4) No way to safely go somewhere because there's no money to make / maintain a system of roads and traffic control
While you may not agree with what the government is doing with your money, not paying your taxes is not the solution to the problem. Voicing your opinion and letting them know with your vote is how you fix it. Taxes are an entirely necessary evil which no one should evade. The mere act of evading it to me seems unpatriotic and (I don't want to start a flame war, but...) dare I say treasonous.

    3) Netflix vs Blockbuster's online DVD queuing patent

I could provide sources for all these, but I'm lazy. The point is, something has to be done to stop these stupid lawsuits. Businesses are becoming dependent on lawsuits to help them stay afloat, rather than just being better than their competitors.
