Besides logging locally to disk, also add a line to/etc/syslog.conf to log to a remote machine.
If syslog can write to a remote machine, then a compromised syslog can overwrite a file on a remote machine. I suspect thats not even remotely close to enough read-only.
As others have suggested, print your logs on a line printer.
Codename "Summer Solstice" - no, not a porn film, but the name of the FBI operation encompassing multiple copyright investigations - including the one in question.
LONDON (Reuters) - The British government rejected a plea to extend copyright laws for sound recordings to beyond 50 years on Tuesday, prompting the music industry to accuse it of not supporting dead musicians and artists.
Purpose? Bacteria don't have a purpose they just do what they do. Besides, suppose a company finally succeded in creating a 3d printer capable of printing itself. Would that really make it suddenly unworthy of patent protection.
Replace purpose with "biological imperative" and your printer analogy breaks down.
That's why standard IP law shouldn't apply - who's the 'distributor' if something copies itself without human intervention?
Patenting / copyright / other methods to articifially control something being copied are STUPID when applied to an entity who's sole purpose is to make copies of itself.
Not to mention that assuming he's trying to argue against Windows, the argument blows up in his face when you count the number of CDs the average Linux distro ships on...
A linux distro with functional equivalence to Vista OOTB would have no Office Suite, no firewall tools, no web server, no CD/DVD burning/authoring software, no p2p clients, no sophisticated image editing programs, bugger all screensavers & games, minimal help documentation, etc, etc.
The typical linux distro is both an OS & a collection of Apps. What you say does not refute the OP in any way, shape or form.
This, fellow slashdot readers is why you shouldn't be anti-mac on/. - I'm not surprised the worm author got death threats - look what I get for joking!
I'd prefer Social Security not even be there and let me spend the rest of my working years (I'm only 25, so enough of them) saving my own goddamn money.
If you're maimed tomorrow, you'll be pathetically greatful for the small amount of SS you'll receive. (Your insurance won't be enough).
Not only that, but Roughly Drafted has been busted attempting to game Digg - by creating multiple users & using these sock puppets to vote articles up. (presumably for the adsense hits to RD).
No doubt Redrum's an RD sock puppet & the people behind RD are attempting to do the same thing with slashdot. Do we really need to have some spammer's site linked from the front page of slashdot?

WTF?
Why is a copy & paste from the linked article (hosted on a site unlikely to be slashdotted) informative?
'Accounced' is an openBSD style announcement - one that can be held accountable
Yeeeesh! Informative? WTF do I have to do to get the +1 Funnies I so desperately crave?

(link is to the FBI press release for this case).
Yes, it's STUPID. So what's your SMART solution?
No copyright or patents on life? I thought that was implicit in my post - I should've accounted for you I guess.
The copyright expiry should be calculated from the death of the artist, not the date of recording.
Oh yes, I couldn't agree with you more, ask any dead artist - the motivation to produce new works comes from the copyright powers they enjoy!
Cliff Richard will start losing royalties two years before that.
Cliff Richards is still alive? I've always assumed he was either a hologram or part of a "weekend at Bernie's" type situation.

...lets say that my post was not intended to be insightful.
Even if it were error free, Britanicca would still be useless - it does not enough content.
I mean, where's the articles on Fanboy? Or the List of minor Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters. (and for that matter, detailed summaries of individual episodes) Or for that matter, where's the article on the Slashdot effect
You've looked at my insurance coverage?
Your insurance agency lies. You'll be relying on SS by the time you're 40.
Maybe we'll finally have the freedom of synching our digital audio players via wi-fi.
I doubt it. The record companies won't like the sounds of that. People might share their music wirelessly!
Sounds like good things are coming to the anti-Apple DAP crowd (which includes me).
Yeeesh, looking to MS to improve on Apple products? I think you're better off looking towards east asia.

HAHAHAHA!
You didn't get the joke - but it's well known how humourless Mac users are - hence the threats to kill...
Perhaps Macs don't come with irony?
Brushed Aluminiummy or titaniummy is all Mac users get - not a hint of irony.
Shouldn't you threaten to kill yourself?

Don't cross a mac fanboy....
;-)
Amen Brother - I would never do that
(name a popular GNU project)
GCC? Without which, the first two projects you mentioned wouldn't exist (and which makes the third far more useful?).

Initially I found your information hard to believe, but my reservations were put to rest when I read the quality blog you cite
You're welcome. Anytime.
This is the "party of smaller government?"
When Republican's mean 'smaller government' they mean 'spend less on social security'.
