    A reliable, economical, easy to drive car compared to something that's beautiful, but too powerful & expensive to buy & maintain for 99.99% of users?

    I'll get flamed to a crisp for this but there's no alternative to photoshop. Gimp is clumsy and underpowered.

    Get flamed for bashing gimp on /.? I doubt it.

    Gimp is an alternative for photoshop in much the same way Openoffice is an alternative to MSoffice or linux is an alternative to OS X.

    It depends on the job at hand. Sometimes the OSS tool is better for the job, at other times the proprietary tool is better for the job.

    Did an entire generation of people fail to learn basic words like 'archaic' and 'anachronistic' in high school? Maybe 'mechanical' was also missing from the vocabulary list.

    Well, steampunk is easier to write than "An archaic Victorian-era style mechanical device, with obviously modern/post-Victorian elements such as computers/lasers/etc"

    Headline should read:

    Apple's usual litigation-trigger-happy attitude has netted an incalculable amount of free publicity to Anne Summers.

    I can't really see how Apple can claim some sort of copyright over silhouettes. I mean - the original iPod adds seemed very.... reminiscent of the James Bond opening credits sequences from the 70s.

    Perhaps Apple is jealous that the Anne Summers' logo also contains an Apple.

    WTF are you talking about?

    1) The GP didn't make the 'nothing to hide' argument.
    2) These cameras only record what the warden would see in any case.
    3) Cameras recording private & public spaces are completely different.

    I don't expect you to read the article - but at least read the comment you're replying to.

    In what jurisdiction?

    Prosititution is illegal in many parts of the land of the (hah!) free. Alchohol is illegal in some Middle Eastern countries. Drugs have different laws almost everywhere. Codeine is illegal in Greece (IIRC), Marijuana semi-legal in some countries, etc etc.

    Not comparable. One still allows you to find something, the other does not.

    Google should never have gone into China, it makes do-no-evil-initiatives like this (where they refuse to accept money from certain companies considered by many to be unethical) look stupid.

    I know that wikipedia isn't exactly the world's most reliable source, but why in the heck hasn't that article been deleted yet.

    For the same reason that articles on Leprechauns or the Piltdown Man aren't deleted. So someone can go & read about them, find out they're not real things, and the read the story of how the hoax/myth/whatever was perpetutated.

    We do find it tedious when dweebs like WMF bitch endlessly about Macs not being designed for linear thinkers like himself.

    I don't bitch about macs tho' - I think they (along with os x) are quite nice. It's purely Apple's hypocricy, DRM pushing, legal threats against bloggers, that I have a problem with.
