    Nowadays people say "no better hardware for the price"....

    And I'm still amazed Mac fanboy's use Dell as their quality/price yardstick (Wow! better value than a dell!!!!!!121!!!! Amazing!!!!1!!!)

    still relying on the 25+ year old BIOS.

    Ouch! Mac fans can only point to the bios these days as the Mac/"PC" differentiator. I guess Macs really ARE just PCs with a different bios.

    This is probably not a good idea, because there is no anonymity with Skype

    1) They have a normal number in addition to the skype links.
    2) You can anonymously use skype from an internet cafe (most have it installed, with mic + headphones these days)
    3) Its for convenience sake, so someone who doesn't think it's worth calling (for the little thing they remember seeing walking past) will just click on the link when reading a story.

    Sex worker, is that the PC term for prostitute?

    I am amazed that so few slashdotters (reading the first 10 posts or so) are unfamiliar with that term. (Do you all live under rocks or something?)

    Its basically a superset of prostitute - including people in the industry who don't actually fuck for money, ie strip dancers, porn stars, topless waiters, dominatrixes (sp?) etc.

    Nothing PC about it.

    I guess the point of the blog (and the trollish /. headline) is to generate plenty of hits to a page which extolls the virtues of the software & software house in question.

    The bigger question, though, is this: Does Apple really care?

    Errrrr, according to the article, sales are dropping. So I'd say yes - Apple probably do care

    If the article is correct in the assumption that sales are dropping due to DRM (which would seem to hold true in my experience), then I'd say Apple would care alot - nothing worries a company more than a division's future earnings collapsing.

    Futhermore, ITMS music shackles a consumer to an iPod. A portion of future iPods sales rely on ITMS sales right now.

    The killer feature for X for unix nerds is network transparancy (something the MS fanboys just don't understand).

    Geckos probably lick their feet clean every once in a while, or have some other bio-mechanism to decontaminate their feet.

    According to this science news article, gecko feet are self cleaning. It's one of the properties that makes synthetic gecko adhesive so attractive.

    What are you saying? Because you can't use all generic hardware on a Dell with a riser card (due to physical restraints) that its not a PC? That a PC that's fussy with its RAM requirements is no longer a PC? That Sony vaio Desktop series (which feature some werid compatability issues) are also not PCs?

    Face it - by your own definition, a mac is a PC. Utterly, utterly stupid.

    There's plenty of reasons.

    1) PFS customers are not the sort of group that have heard of p2p.
    2) P2P is a pita.
    3) P2P downloaded music varies in quality, tag naming conventions (tagging silverchair as "christrian rap"), etc.
    4) P2P exposes you to legal risk regardless of whether its legal in your jurisdiction or not.

    "PC", used in context (as it was previously), also has a specific meaning - it refers to IBM (or intel x86, if you prefer) compatible computers.

    Idiot. A mac is an IBM (or intel x86, if you prefer) compatible computer. You can run windows, linux, and all your standard IBM (or intel x86, if you prefer) compatible software with it!

    By your own definition, a mac is a subset of PC.

    The same does hold true for non-Mac PCs. Can you buy any video card & drop it in any x86 machine? No. You've got to check AGP, PCI-X, etc compatability. Same holds for RAM, other cards, in fact nearly everything.

    The x86 architecture has fragmented hugely, you cannot buy any piece of hardware, drop it into an x86 and expect it to work

    Please post the dictionary definition of "Mac". Don't forget to cite your source.

    Utterly stupid. A Mac is a brand. It has no dictionary definition.

    "PC" is a generic term, it does have a dictionary definition - "Personal Computer"

    Do you disagree that a mac is not a personal computer? Or do you disagree with the dictionary definition of PC?

    When you can buy a Mac without OS X, and drop any piece of standard PC hardware in into it without having to worry about weird compatibility issues (eg: "non-Mac" video cards), then you can call it a PC.

    PC is short for "Personal Computer" - all your compatibility issues hold true for any pc.

    Macs are Personal Computers - PCs. Change the dictionary definition of PC if you think differently.

    Technically, Macs are PCs (in the general sense of "personal computer") but so are Amigas, SPARCstations, and PDAs.

    Yes, but slashdot is a technical site.

    They're not PCs in the sense of "IBM PC and compatibles", which is what people are usually talking about when they talk about "Mac vs. PC".

    People who say Mac vs PC in the age of wintel macs are self deluded.

    Look up PC in the dictionary.

    1) Dell is not the only manufacturor of non-mac PCs.
    2) Dell is not the cheapest manufacturor of non-mac PCs.
    3) What is this obsession Mac fanboys have with Dell? Surely you could pick someone a little classier as your competition yardstick?
    4) Look at Asus notebooks. Better specced, lighter, smaller, cheaper. Same chinese 60hrs/week factory Macs come from
