I lost hearing in my right ear several years ago from sudden hearing loss. I'd give almost anything to get it back. I have tinnitus in that ear so bad it almost hurts sometimes. Plus you have no idea how frustrating it is to hear a sound and NOT be able to tell where it came from. PLEASE fix it!
I returned my brand new Galaxy SII due to the horrid battery life. The large screen sucked the battery life down to about 6 hours with all widgets removed and an all black background, WIFI and bluetooth turned off! Since I need to carry a phone for work it just didn't cut it. My first smart phone lasted about 5 days of use before needing a recharge (Chinese iPhone clone). My next (Nokia N900) lasted about two days between charges and that is with many widgets, active backgrounds, WIFI, and bluetooth all enabled! Now I've gone back to another Nokia N900 since my first one had an unfortunate hot-tub incident. Plus having a real keyboard is so much nicer to use than the on-screen ones. Plus I have a full development environment on my N900! Can't do that on either iPhone or Android no matter how big the screen is.
I worked at Ball Aerospace years ago and found out the real story. NASA cut the budget for Hubble so that a final optical train alignment task was never done. The engineers had designed a laser test to check the optical path but NASA wanted to save the $50000 the test would take. So until it was turned on, in space, they had no clue how bad it was. Working with NASA was tough mostly due to their arrogance.
My wife has two e-readers. (Sony and Kindle) When she noticed several glaring errors in one book I picked up the paperback of the same title. The errors were in there too. Converting bad text into an ebook doesn't fix the bad typing or bad grammar.
It seems to me this was done, not for security, but for business reasons. Now Apple can use the DMCA to keep other companies from making a power adapters for Apple products.
Yea, let's put it off until the debt is over what 20 trillion? It is clear to me that we are going to default at sometime in the future. Why not get it over with? We are printing money like mad and borrowing money from the Chinese to make interest only payments. How's that same scheme working on your credit cards? Oh, I know, let's use our Visa card to pay our Master card bill and pay that with our Discover card and pay that.... no problem here. Sorry for the rant.
Here's one: http://www.centennialbulb.org/photos.htm This incandescent bulb as been burning for OVER 100 years. I haven't gotten that kind of life from any light bulb.
"How hard is it to take the bulbs to your local Lowes or Home Depot?" I don't live in an incorporated town. My "local" Lowes/Home Depot is a 45 minute round trip, you insensitive clod. Remind me again how much I'm saving...
If you have a Cessna or Twin Otter why would you go to a commercial field? I avoid them like the plague. Just hop in and fly to your destination, screw the commercial airlines.
Not too much it seems. 1: Get your pilot's license: ~$6000 2: Build an airplane: ~$40000 and up, the sky's the limit here! You can go cheaper but it'll be slower... 3: Get a group together to afford #2 or rent your plane. I'm not rich but I now enjoy flying again and have all the advantages of owning part of an airplane. Plus no TSA to deal with.
I didn't stop flying. I went out and got my pilot's license, then I built an airplane. Now I fly every chance I get! No lines, no TSA, no long waits except for the weather. I have crossed the country multiple times now and have met some of the nicest people at small airports. Yes, I only cruise at about 200 mph but since I don't have to be at the airport 2 hours early and can fly to small airports nearer to my destination, I can almost always beat the airlines.;-)
Just login using classic... but that is only one of their problems. They seemed to have borked wine, and LibreOffice is just hosed. I upgraded one workstation but am working on going back to 10.10 since 11.04 is not ready for prime time.
My wife, an avid reader, reads about a book a day. Try carrying 10-15 books on a vacation and you'll realize one of the benefits of e-books. She can now carry 100s of books at a time any where she goes. And they are all DRM free. Yes, I've had to remove the DRM from some of them but they are DRM free now.;-)
I have a T-mobile pre-pay plan that is $100 per year. Never hit the text/voice limits and get data through WIFI. I own my phone and all I see of this deal is that it is going to cost me more. I love my phone (Nokia N900) but may have to change since I won't give a penny to AT&T because they screwed me over in the past and they'll be the last GSM provider in the US.;-( I hope that this is blocked at the federal level but that doesn't seem to happen any more.
I disagree. The Sony rootkit was definitely evil. They did it with clear intent of malice and complete disregard for other's property. The love of money is the root of all evil. When profits are put ahead of what is right it is pure evil. AFAIAC
I've never owned an iPhone but I've played with several. My Nokia n900 regularly has 5-6 applications running simultaneously and has never crashed. I'm watching Hulu right now (using that terrible Flash which has never crashed on this device) and projecting the display onto a 45 inch screen. Try that with your beloved iPhone or droid for that matter. Maemo is so much better than the iPhone OS. A good operating system should be able to gracefully handle poorly written applications without crashing. Plus you should be able to do anything you want with your phone, porn included.
Because the CEOs don't listen to the IT people and they believe that profit is more important than security. Since they are mostly rich and they are insulated from any problems they cause I guess they may be right. I still don't agree and have placed many letters in my personnel folder stating that I don't agree. Just to CMA.
You are missing ALL of the other taxes we have to pay in the USA. Gas tax Liquor tax Sales tax Tobacco tax Road tax (Toll roads are not included in Gas Tax) Phone tax Internet tax etc. etc. I figure I am taxed at about 70-75% when you include everything.
When I approach the cashiers and there are 30 people in line with only two cashiers the store personnel get to put all the stuff in my basket back on the shelves because I will leave it there and walk out of the store. I occasionally point it out to the store manager if he/she is available. (They never seem to care though. Sigh.)
Umm, civilised people don't require the death penalty. However we don't live in a completely civilised society.

The one time I wish I had moderator points to mod you up! I keep pointing out this little inconvenient truth too.
The idea of capturing the intelligence of the readership was correct! The only problem was the intelligence of the readership...

I dropped Netflix when they started streaming and refused to support Linux. And no, I won't run Windows for any reason.

Not!
