Looking around at the CS students at UNM I see that most ~75% are foreign exchange students. Almost all of them are male. Of the other 25% only a few are female. I think the stats are being skewed by the shear number of foreign exchange students. Also, the number of US born students in CS is dropping.
My current employer lost this case in the 80s. The NM supreme court ruled that exempt employees are not slaves and could only be expected to work 10% over their 40 hour work week without being compensated. 44 hours a week isn't too bad. Now it seems that the corporate history has been forgotten. They regularly want us to put in more hours. I just point them to the state supreme court decision and they shut up.;-)
"I make more than enough to live." Yes, but do make enough to put some (LOTS) away for retirement? Inflation is eating away at your pay right now but when you retire you will probably be on a fixed income. Will it be enough?
True. Plus, given you have to be at the airport at least two hours early, I can usually fly my private plane and beat the commercial airlines to my destination! It costs more but my wife can still smoke and we get better snacks too.
So, let me get this straight. They are now forcing us to use OpenOffice to read their formats. I guess that Balmer just got tired of using their own crappy software.
I say go after the deep pockets of Google, demand a jury trial, profit! When they bought the company they also have to take on their customer support. I suspect that a jury would agree.
"The national infrastructure is falling apart, and there are no resources to fix them." No resources? That is not the problem. Instead of fixing bridges we are building new sports stadiums to the tune of hundreds of millions of tax-payer dollars. It's not the lack of funds it is the lack of good leadership in all levels of government. Bush's tax cuts have increased the federal coffers not cut into them. Tax cuts, they work every time they are tried.
My company recently switched to only getting laptops. What a piece of crap it has turned out to be. They got me a Lenovo T60 (Centrino Duo) Actually I'm on the third one in 1 month! It is so slow that my 4 year old Athlon 64 desktop runs circles around it. I am now in the position that I will have to get my department to buy a desktop directly, circumventing our IT group. Here's the problem: Desktop 4G RAM and not maxed out! Laptop maxed out at 2G Desktop 3 x 10000 RPM 250G hard drives, Laptop 1 x 4700 RPM 80G. Desktop SCSI port, Gigabit LAN, two DVD burners, Floppy Drive, etc. etc. Laptop: none of these. I support several real-time systems and the laptop is WAY TOO SLOW for what I need. Bottom line laptops (at least this one) suck for anyone needing a FAST computer. (Gamers, you aren't the only ones needing flat out speed)
Vista's not that bad. You do have to turn off the nag-ware but after that it is very much like XP. I don't like XP but that's another story. When you can't buy the software anymore, just download a corporate version off of bittorrent or your favorite P2P. If they won't sell it to you just put on an eye-patch and pirate it. Seems to me like that is what they are forcing you to do.
Can you say Microsoft? I have yet to find a single product from this company that actually meets its own specifications. Criminal? You bet, but nothing is being done to them. Hiding bugs? They are the best at it. Heck they have been found by the courts to abuse their monopoly but little to nothing was done and their behavior has only gotten worse! Buy a clue.
We have a good used music store. Used CDs are $1-$2. I purchase the CD, RIP it to my media server then return the CD for ~1/2 of what I payed. So for.50-$1 I get ALL the songs on the Cd plus I can use OGG, MP3, AAC, etc. Why would I want to pay more than that for one song? Unless it's a ring-tone of course.
Umm, wrong. The original Newton had problems that also were never admitted by Apple. The things would power off by themselves. I was always able to get mine to boot but had to make sure that there was nothing running when it was powered down. Just because Apple doesn't admit there is a problem doesn't mean there are no problems.
Hummm, let see, I have no skills so I can make minimum wage at Circuit City or I can make $10000 per month selling crack. What will I do? Can you say no-brainer?

Nope! At least not in NM. The ballot no longer has a place for a write in. There goes my vote for Ron Paul!
What About Bob?
There, fixed that for you.

I too, am shocked that Sony wants its own standard.

"DRM'd music also can't be resold": Ha Ha Ha. Wanna bet?
If I can listen to it I can copy it.

We really like that piece of property ... therefor you must be a terrorist!
Now, give up your land!
Umm, how does an iPOD let you rip a CD? Did I miss a meeting?
Can't I do that with Windoze?

Linux makes cigarettes? Who'da thunk it?
IMHO it makes no sense to burn your food.

Sorry. I patented vomit last year.

Microsoft telling others how to do security is like a chicken telling Colonel Sanders how to cook.
Why does anybody still buy Sony DRM/Rootkit infested crap?
Boycott Sony!
