It took me two years of hard work building an experimental airplane and getting my pilots license but it was worth it. I now fly myself from an airport 5 minutes from my house. I can usually land at an airport much closer to my destination than the big planes fly into. I also don't consider getting somewhere by commercial airliner flying, it is traveling. Flying means getting behind the stick and doing it yourself. Plus since I'm not flying at 40000+ feet I get a much better view of the country. Here is the breakdown of costs: Vans RV-9A with a Lycoming IO-320 engine: ~$38000 and 1500 hours labor. Pilots license (Instructor and aircraft rental) ~$6500. On-going costs: $220/month hanger rental. Fuel @$3.90/Gal using 6.5 Gallons per hour at 180 knot cruise AND loving it!
Considering that within that time frame the average age at death will be over 100, I don't see any problem within 100 years. Children being born today will most likely be alive in 100 years so this is just 1 generation. Mr. Hawking knows this and is setting people up. 100 years is just a blip on the geologic time scale. Unless there is a LARGE meteor strike people will still be arguing "How will we survive the next 100 years?"
I've known several cops. Some I grew up with. A couple I went to school with. Every one of them has carried a "throw away" weapon. This is a gun with no serial numbers which cannot be traced back to the officer. This is so they can plant a gun on some pore slob who happend to get shot by the cop but had no weapon on him. The cop has to make the shooting justified! What a load of crap! I even had one of these cop friends tell me I should carry one of these "throw away guns" just in case I had to shoot someone. OK, I know this isn't ALL cops, just every one I have ever known....
If it was possible to shutdown the jet remotely and we gave them the source code, coudn't they just shut down our jets too? Screw 'em. Don't give them anything. Either they want the jets or they don't. I suspect this would be covered under the DMCA anyway.
My first computer back in 1979 was a TRS-80 Model 1. I built several interfaces to real-time clocks, Modems, an expansion box to connect 4 90K floppies, etc! What a grand time that was. It still boots! I used that box to connect to the university and keep me from having to spend nights at the computer center.
After the rootkit fiasco how can anyone trust this company? I will never do business with SONY again! They have never even admited they did anything wrong. Show your displeasure by voting with your pocket book.
Except that pay-per-view has gone up, up, up. I have Dish Network and when I signed up, years ago, the ppv's were $1.99. A couple of years later they went up to $2.99. Now most of them are $3.99. So now I just get my movies from NetFlix. I average 8 per month for $15. Which works out to ~$1.87 per movie. If you then burn a copy, which costs another 30 cents for the blank DVD, you now have a permanent copy for about $2.17.
This only makes sense if they never want to put something into orbit. The Lat/Lon of White Sands Missile Range is such that it will require a non-homan orbital tranfer to get something into orbit. This means that it is very expensive, fuel wise, to get there. Otherwise it is an OK idea.
Unless you have a cabin in the mountains where no birds can fly to, it won't keep you from getting infected. Since this is carried by birds who can fly anywhere, running away won't help. Neither will keeping people who have traveled locked up.
There are several people out there who must get free memberships to Sam's Club or Costco. Last time I checked it cost ~$35/year to join these membership type stores. Add that to your cost/print and the cost goes up. Also, I look in the discount bins at Wal-Mart and CompUSA for paper and ink suplies. (I've found some good deals at Big Lots also.) I've found I can regularly get paper and ink for less than 1/4 the regular price. I've done the math and can usually print 4x6 prints for about 10 cents not including electricity. Add to this that it is about a 1 hour round trip from my house to anywhere and it's a no-brainer.
I haven't even ripped one in a long time. The last few movies I've rented were so bad I didn't even watch them all the way through let alone copy them. I don't go to the theatre any more since I can't stand spending $20 (for two) to watch a turd.
You are wrong. There are at least two "provably secure operating systems" EROS and SCOMP. These are Orange book proven systems which have NEVER been hacked and many groups have tried. The only problem is that they are so secure it is very hard to get any real work done with them. Ask the folks at Los Alamos and Mitre.
These are the same scientists that agree that even if we totally quit driving and emiting ALL green house gasses we will reduce the global temperature about.08 degrees in 100 years! This is all crap. They will tell you that weather is a chaotic system, that chaotic systems are not predictable, then make predictions based on their data. What a bunch of morons.
I don't know the regulations where you are, but the fire department here would have this plastic removed after the first inspection. This doesn't meet fire code. If that bubble wrap/plactic ever cought fire you might die from the fumes before you could evacuate the building. The sys admins may even be liable for the deaths of their co-workers. If the management approved they too would be in court. Years in jail are too high a price to pay for some managers who are too cheap to buy proper HVAC.
I had similar problems with the first gen battery. I called iRobot they said the battery charger was a known problem. They sent me 2 new batteries for FREE and gave me a discount on a quick charger. I have had no more problems. These guys are great to deal with! If my first Roomba dies I WILL buy a new one. It is way cool.
You don't reduce complexity by adding yet another application. This just adds complexity. Try this: Install another operating system that doesn't have the problems in the first place. Try Linux, OS X, Solaris, etc. This is just an attempt to move more money from their customers pockets into theirs.

I'd hate to be on the 747 that happens to run into one of these. It could ruin your whole day! I wonder what the FAA rules are for these things.
Leave me alone! I'm trying to screw my sister...
Is that sick enough for you?

No. You never own the media, only a license. They should be replaced no charge. Thank RIAA!

Yes the TCP/IP stack was installed.... but the network was unplugged. ;-)

I've found "Tricks of the UNIX Masters" helpfull in all sorts of ways. Great book, good layout, and easy reading.
The sky is falling!
The sky is falling!
Run!

WTF? Are there people who don't exist?

Ha Ha Ha. This is going to be hacked so fast.
Given their track record on securing their software I give it 5 minutes after release.

No news here. Move along.
