Your post has brought me to tears as I have so unfortunately been there myself and I understand. I am very concerned by the words you chose in this post - if those were my words it would most certainly be a thinly veiled cry for help. Here is the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255
Please call or call a friend. And please remember that in those times that you are not considering taking your life, even if they are fleeting, it's not worth it.
I understand how hard it is. You are not alone.
I remember the Palm Pilot. 2006-2007 I was internal support for a very large company. At one point it seemed almost everyone in the company had one. A couple short releases cycles past the...I think it was called 650... and that platform went from wonderful to pretty nasty. The phones went through a quick evolution in an effort to catch up with Windows Mobile and Blackberry. They achieved nothing substantial except for producing woefully unstable phones that could take drastic measures to correct. Windows Mobile was fun back then. The entire interface was rendered from an XML file so you could do some REALLY COOL SHIT. My Motorola Q was a hacker paradise I will always hold dear.
Cheers to MC Hammer for taking initiative to become involved in creating what is at least an attempt at bringing more usefulness to the web. It is very easy to read about this project, roll your eyes and declare it a dud. It may well be the case that the technology will be useless and die a quick death. But let's hold on until it's public. It may very well be useful enough to be bought out by google (then killed 6 months later of course). Personally I view this technology as something that might prove more overall useful on a phone after some evolving.
I am going on the assumption that in a matter of decades robots will also be autonomously handling farming and food distribution as well - everything in fact. It seems inevitable. Perhaps my take on the future in a bit radical. After all, I also believe we will merge with technology wholly and completely. Think singularity. However, I can see period of time in between the rise of machines and our merger that might be a bit awkward if not frightening.
I vaguely understand the economic theory that says this is good in the long run. However, I have always wondered what we will do as a society when there is nothing left to do... One thing is for sure, we will need police and military robots to keeps us in check. 7 billion pairs of idle human hands sounds bad. Perhaps we will begin to leave the planet at that point.
Looking at my numeric keypad I only just now consciously considered that the keys start out 7,8,9. I have been using computers for a couple decades and phones for even longer - I extensively use the numeric keypad on my keyboard and always have. I have never ever had a problem going from 7 8 9 on a keyboard to 1 2 3 on a phone and I am admittedly not the brightest bulb on the tree. The bottom line is, you are over thinking this. You are obsessing and psyching yourself out over six keys in a grid pattern. Stop thinking about this one and I assure you your brain will handle it just fine
Wow. It's been several months since a story was posted that completely forgot the link the the article.
Seriously, do you guys have a "Doh!" session everyday after work where you smack your palm into your forehead over and over to pay penance for your daily editing? If you do maybe it's time for a helmet .
"These are Mac OS X screenshots, so the menu shouldn't be in the window anyway, but it appears they've moved everything to a small cog. No, wait, later there's a Windows 7 version, and the menu is still the orange Firefox thing, so I guess the cog is Mac OS X only?
They're finally merging the search and URL bars, which I'm sure some Slashdotters will scream bloody murder over, but which I can't help but think it's about time. (Really, not too hard to tell a URL from a search term, and given that the "awesome" bar is already a search feature, they might as well give me more space so that I can see the entire URL.)">
"We appreciate your interest in our design experiments!
The UI mock-ups shown on these pages were part of a meeting, and were for discussion purposes, and to explore different design directions. Some of them are already out of date."
I suggest geting them your opinions while you can.
All I see going on here is people whining about a price increase that you should have seen coming a long time ago. Please keep in mind that even in 2011 most internet based business models are still experimental and are subject to change. Netflix was always a deal to good to be true - but they tried. People have always complained about a lack of streamed movie options and the occasional unavailable DVD. Do you not understand that it takes money to offer more movies wether DVD or streaming? Do you not understand that more streaming increases infrastructure and other IT related costs? Do you not understand that what they are offering is still a good and competitive deal?
Further, I see an enormity of posts saying "Well I'll just ditch Netflix and go to Bittorent to pirate my movies for free and so should everyone else." Do you honestly believe that you are taking the moral high ground by stealing?
"God forbid we have choices when buying a tablet."
Choices? We have a deluge of devices trying to be based on a single platform while going to far trying to be there own propriety system. The Android market is a confusing mess.
"oh wait. their entire build environment is proprietary, as are their build tools."
This is one of those statements where one could right an entire essay on how full of shit you are and how and why you are wrong. I'm in a hurry so I'm going to keep it short.
Your statement is full of shit to the point you are not making any sense. Go do some research. Oh crap, did I just feed a troll?
Oh joy, yet another Android tablet to muck up the already confusing and fragmented Android tablet market. Another Android tablet with yet another interface and yet more bloatware. I hope they at least bother to release any code that falls under GPL - As is well known, this is not a popular thing to do. They are only helping Apple, not competing, by throwing another Android tablet into the watered down mix. As far as Kindle, it just sounds like they are making for a confusing product lineup.
Sorry officer, my drivers license is in the cloud which is currently undergoing an unscheduled upgrade. As soon as I get an email that it's available again, I will be sure to let you know.
Could you pick any other example? Really it just sounds like your kind of a asshole that enjoyed squashing something his wife loved and was passionate about. What else? Was it a 10 hour a week gig and your factoring a 40 hour work week? Still married?
Well, now Facebook is face-to-face. So Facebook has evolved into Facebook. It's also getting awfully bloated with needless this and that. There must be a point where a centralized social networking service collapses under the weight of features that must eventually be spread out across the web. Mid 90's everybody on AOL jumped ship when the realized the same stuff was on the web, only spread out across a better and wide open landscape. It seems like Facebook is running headlong into it's own demise. It is inevitable the we will eventually be able to manager social networking features across the vast, open playing field that is the web. Google+ is showing a small taste of this.

It almost sounds like the hardware in a phone could be used to keep this thing stable. I wonder if it runs Android.

Can I play Iron Soldier 2 on it?
While amputating one of the elephants feet may technically make the beast in the room smaller, I doubt it will be enough to push it out the door.
I can post "Ding Dong the witch is dead. Which old witch? The proprietary cpu eating battery draining witch!"
Sooner or later anyway...

I wonder if it has yet predicted the coming American uprising?

Could someone explain what they mean when they say the width is 3,700 miles long...
"The width of the Hamza is said to be 3,700 miles long..."
I can understand the length of the river being 3,700 miles long, wouldn't the width be another figure?
Is there some sort of "river nomenclature" I am missing?
Maybe I just need more coffee...

See you above post. That's how it happened to me.
