I would also like to know what "business sense" there is in releasing an app like this at the beginning of winter in North America that doesn't offer any real usefulness under 80 degrees is. It seems you would want to release an app like that during a season that would apply as many people a possible to encourage uptake rather than letting it fall away and be forgotten. I am not trying to come off as a jerk. I genuinely hope you have some good solid reasoning. I like to learn.
So I just installed the Android version of OSHA Heat Safety Tool to take a first hand look and it really is total crap. This is like something a kid would write in python for an intro to programming class. This "app" could have been written in a day by any one of half the people on Slashdot. In fact, I would be surprised if it did take more than a day to develop.
If I remember correctly the S3 virge DX used proprietary 3d acceleration (think glide vs. openGL). The problem was no one wanted to support it. The only game I ever played that supported 3d acceleration on Virge DX was Descent and Decent was absolutely stunning on that card. Past that you are correct, it was completely unusable as a 3d card. However, at the time it was about the best 2d card on the market and if I remember correctly was among the first 2d acceleration supported cards under Linux - or at least was fairly reliable under Linux. Ahh memories.
I totally agree with your statement. The unfortunate thing about it is that the long run has been reduced to a sprint through abuse compared to the marathon we should have had. I realize how long antibiotics have been in use, but they should have lasted longer.
It is massively unfortunate that antibiotics have fallen due to misuse. By all means the *should* be viable for decades to come, but that has been ruined by ignorance. To this day I know people who despite being aware of the issue from the news, doctors, and long lectures by me, discontinue their course before it's done and then hoard those antibiotics to take when they have a cold or the flu. Yet they have been informed thoroughly as to why this is bad and why antibiotics don't even try viri.
This is not a matter of educating the public. The public has been educated yet they ignore it. I have never understood where this profound ignorance comes from. This is a major hot button for me.
Past all that, if any organization can formulate something new and better I suppose that would be DARPA.
In my original attempt to post I wrote "It's for the children!." in all caps in order to communicate the absurdity to those on Slashdot who don't always think things through and might actually take me seriously. I received the following error: Filter error: Don't use so many caps. It's like YELLING.
Come on Slashdot, isn't that what we have moderation for?
Also a long time Linux user, I jumped onto the Mac bandwagon as my full time platform in 2005. Best personal computing decision I ever made. On the one hand, Apples default applications are remarkable (Garageband\iMovie anybody?) I also use textedit like crazy. For me the single most important piece of default software has been X windows. If you are running it on Linux I can almost certainly run it on my Mac. I use GIMP frequently. OS X comes with GCC, apache, etc... I also like that I don't really ever have to minimize anything since tiling a bazzion windows on a Mac really is very effective. Then there is built in system wide spell check. Did I mention spotlight? I could go on and on.
Just keep an open mind. If 10 years ago someone had told me I would be installing hardwood floors and enjoying it I would have laughed. I am still a geek at heart. Just a happier geek.
As someone who has been here under one account or another since 1997, me too. However, it would be fun to see some numbers and the conversation that would follow.
For the record, I do home improvement work. Mostly hardwood floors. I spent a decade being very successful in IT but I never really liked it and finally couldn't stand "IT" anymore.
When I was in 1st grade Joey B. asked Devin M. if he could borrow a piece of paper. Devin responded by taking his freshly sharpened pencil and driving it clean through Joeys hand.
I came here to say pretty much the same thing. Fortunately I read through the comments before posting resulting in very little posting. Not this time though. Here, have a mod point. : P
"Oklahoma has had small earthquakes like this."
You are correct, however, prior to around 2009 OK experienced on average about 50 small earthquakes a year. After 2009 that number went up to about 1,000 quakes a year.

Can I have a pony too?
I can see someone "loosing" a couple in the employee smoking area outside of a bank or large tech company. Lost, sure they were.
Stifle it? That's one way to prevent it!

By all means, enlighten me. There's no need to be a dick. Perhaps I'm just new around here : p

Correct me if I'm wrong!
That is one of the most excellent (if not obvious) points I've ever heard made and the only time I think I've ever heard it made.
Thanks. If you don't mind that's about to become my sig.

Agreed. It's absolute insanity.

You forgot the word obligatory. I modded you up anyway though : p

After all: It's for the children! Right?
Thanks. Didn't even think of that. I'll give it a spin.

I think we found a new poll.

It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
Oh wow. Oh wow. Oh wow.
Anyway. This better not suck.
