    I live in a real world where paying $4 for a cupcake is something I would never do. But now I am starting to think IT is the wrong business to be in, and maybe I should start baking cupcakes to sell for $4 if other people are willing to pay that much.

    Right, and what about states/counties that do not have a lot of oversight on fracking on the books presently? If only there were an Agency with federal jurisdiction in Environmental Protection policy... Oh yeah, right. Do you really think every county has a fiscal responsibility to do research on it's own? Or do you really think you can trust the research that is done exclusively by the corporations who stand to greatly benefit financially if nothing negative is found?

    I don't think anyone is claiming that fracking is causing fault lines to appear where there were not any previously.

    The EPA has been all but dismantled by the last few administrations. Corporations are self regulating - they are the ones responsible for testing and complying with the law. I bet those numbers are never fudged, especially when there is no additional checking done by the EPA in 99% of the cases. If the corporations are responsible for testing and reporting the results to the EPA, why would they ever report something negative that could cost them millions of dollars to fix?

    If you are an authorized co-lessee of a safety deposit box, all you need is proof of death to access it. So it only takes as long as getting a death certificate takes.

    Or, do as I said above and get a safety deposit box in a bank. Only you have access to it while alive, and you can designate people to have access after your death. Much much more secure than an envelope hidden somewhere.

    Get a safety deposit box in a bank - it can be opened upon your death by anyone you designate. Include instructions of where everything is stored, and the passwords, or master password to a password manager, in the box.

    "Economic takedown"? Taking down the US economy would hurt China as much or more than it would hurt the US itself. Who do you think is the chief exporter of goods into the US? Who do you think owns a good chunk of US companies? Why would China want to cut it's own throat?

    So keeping opiates on the black market controlled by criminal organization with possible terrorist ties is your solution? Keep thinking, you aren't quite there yet. It isn't about this drug or that drug being worse, it is about a completely uncontrolled, unregulated market that is too good for bad guys to pass up as a money maker. Take away those conditions and the problem will take care of itself.

    It is simple economics: supply and demand. If there is a demand someone will supply that demand. No morals or laws can change that basic principle.

    Exactly. The reality is there isn't enough significant news to fill an entire 24 hour period so the sensationalism needs to make events bigger than they actually are. Kind of like how there were a number of school shootings in the 1970s, but they were just not played hundreds of times on 24 hour news channels so people tend to think it is only a recent phenomenon.

    Seeing the French invented the culinary rules, no. The chefs in heaven are French. I mean come on - the Italians won't even put a bit of cheese in with the seafood.

    Disclaimer: I actually like Italian cuisine much more than French. I also am not really a fan of many things French, but cooking is one of the things I can't fault them for.

    No, I didn't read the article, because I am a typical Slashdotter. I took the tiny information that I had, extrapolated it any way I wanted, and came to a conclusion that suited my opinion.

    What is next, people reading the articles and making insightful, informed comments based on actual knowledge? If you are hanging out here you may want to consider lowering your standards a bit. Oh, and lighten up Francis, it was a joke. Sorry you didn't get it, but I am not going to lose much sleep over that fact.
