Apple Corp. is worth way more than Microsoft, so logic would dictate that they have the money to pay shills.

However, anyone thinking that either company would waste money trying to influence anyone by paying people to post on Slashdot is the true ignoramus. As if the world in general, outside of a few geeks that don't really matter, even KNOWS what Slashdot is, let alone care enough to have it influence them in any way, shape, or form.

People with no desire won't. I don't see how this will radically change that. The people who are going to use this for basic communication probably weren't going to take the several years of time it takes to learn a foreign language in the first place.

We, as Americans, have a fucking duty to actively and collectively break every single law that does not follow the Supreme Law of the Land, aka the Constitution.

Ah, but you said yourself if the law is automatically trumped by the 8th Amendment, it isn't really a law. So why would breaking the law be necessary if it isn't really law after all?

I understand the point you are trying to make, but every armchair lawyer does not get to interpret the Constitution as they see fit. You thinking that the 8th Amendment trumps a "lesser" law does not mean it is so. That is what the court systems are for. I would trust a judge's interpretation of the law over yours any day, sorry. What you are offering up is anarchy, not strict adherence to the Constitution. If everyone gets to interpret the law as they see fit, it is basically lawlessness because the law means nothing.

Right, and you saying the 8th trumps all doesn't make it legally so. Unless you challenge the established law in court with an 8th amendment challenge, and a judge upholds the challenge, the established law is still law. YOUR interpretation of the law is not what is legally binding. I think you are greatly overestimating your own knowledge of the US legal system if you think by merely challenging a law it becomes null and void instantly.

The fines were the maximum amount allowed legally. You may want to start with changing that law before going straight to the excessive fines defense. May be a bit tricky when it has already been legally established that $150,000 fine per movie is acceptable.

We would also have far fewer motorists running down bicyclists if they got a mandatory 10 years for hitting a cyclist. Doesn't mean it is a good idea. Trying to regulate behavior through legislation rarely works - educate drivers and cyclists on how to be more aware of each other. Fortunately I live in one of the top bike cities in the US and there are tons of dedicated off the road bike paths and bike lanes on roads. I rarely ride on any busy streets and as a result I have been riding for about 15 years in the city without ever being hit by a car. I will ride many blocks out of my way just to get to a bike lane or a street that has hardly any traffic on it. But there are a lot of people who ride in my city so drivers have for the most part become more aware of this fact. Both motorist and bikers have the same goal - get safely to where they are going without affecting each other negatively. Blaming one side or the other is just useless.

There are just way to many people lined up at either end of the argument. It isn't as black and white as most people would like to make it seem.
