I am curious why Grandma could not upload her pictures to an iPad since it has both SD and USB interfaces for importing photos and an app for every conceivable place she might want to put them on the Internet.

Actually the feelings of lockdown are generally reported by people who do not use any Apple products.. The rest of us see the nearly endless stream of interesting and useful apps in the app store..
QUICK someone post a reply talking about some app no one cares about being rejected! Maybe toss in some JooJoo info for good measure.

Outside of the lockdown issues , which don't actually exist since anyone with $99 can write programs for themselves and their 100 closest friends. The iPad was not designed for writing code ON so you would be silly to buy him one for that purpouse. If you were looking for something to write code FOR, than you have been completely misinformed by/. commentators about the platform and should do your own research.

You apparently have not spend a lot of time around Ham operators who have put a lot more thought into those questions than you can imagine. Believe it or not, it is possible to power electronic devices without electricity from the grid!

Your post is quite strange, almost like you were just trying to string together a bunch of keywords and promote the link to your blog. Your post does not contain a coherent thought.
Some of your random disconencted thoughts (bad warranties, fail to honor warranties) ignore the fact that survey after survey shows Apple has the number 1 customer service of any computer manufacturer by a massive margin.
You talk about correcting factual errors and then compare the iPad to a company that does not make any tablets aimed at a computer market. Maybe they do not get the same press coverage because they don't make devices priced or equipped for a mass audience.
And you can buy all of the pieces for a Mac at Newegg jus tlike most/.s would for a PC.

No , it has nothing to do with Apple, it has to do with covering items your readers are interested in. The JooJoo does not deserve mention beyond being a curiosity because no one is interested. Both of them mentioned it, but how much time, resources and page space should they dedicate to something that has very little interest from consumers.
It has nothing to do with Apple or DRM (Whatever this has to do with Apple in your fantasy world, since DRM is imposed by Content owners, not distributors), Walled-Gardens or anything else you mentioned. It only has to do with making sound editorial decisions as a news organization.
The JooJoo has generated no interest among even a small set of consumers, if and when it does, I am sure you will see more coverage. I am not biased, I am realistic and apparently understand news and publishing a lot better than you do.
Flash Performance has only ever been tolerable in IE under Windows, this was Jobs chief complaint and one Adobe absolutely has failed to address. If Adobe would focus some energy on making functional flash clients for other platforms, than you would see flash on the iP*s.
If you seriously believe your last sentence, you should immediately cease commenting on technology because you truly don't understand the world we live in.
If it is all so trivial, please share your design. The "engineers" who all know how easy it would be to do it better are getting a tad tiresome. If it is so easy , do it. JooJoo tried and will most likely failed, they add all the things you want and the device weighs 2.5lbs+.
Everything is a tradeoff when you are designing a portable device, and nothing is as easy as you seem to think it is.
It does seem he just kept saying no because he assumed he was right and the iPad was wrong. Sometimes believing you are smarter than everyone else leaves you at a serious disadvantage.:)

Perhaps there are no articles because the JooJoo is not news. You are seriously trying to compare the number of articles on a site about technology between a device with 90 (Nine Zero) preorders, some of which were returned and a device with over 500k sales. If you run a website on technology news , you are not well served by focusing your news on a device absolutely no one cares about. It is a credit to Engadget and Gizmodos depth of coverage that they have had any stories at all about the JooJoo and both have had several.

When was the last time any computer came with a Schematic? My kids can write all the iphone/ipad apps they could want and tinker to their hearts content. Since the advent of surface mounting it has been impractical for most kids to do any real hardware tinkering, this is hardly apples fault. Forgive them for etching everything into silicon since it is in fact 2010 and not 1981.
Despite what a lot of people on Slashdot believe, in a lot of ways gates was/is a visionary. He has been wrong many times, but that is the risk you take when you are willing to put your name with your vision.
