I am sure they have been doing this for years and years - but now since we live in a system that has figured out they can get away with nearly anything - why not come clean. After all we are just sheep, they are the shepherd.
I must admit I am somewhat of a techno junk hoarder. However I found so many good things dumpster diving over the year. In addition to PC boards with resistors and caps, I also keep a look out on gear trains, and mechanical parts - laser printers are fun to digest. And of course stepper motors.. Always get stepper motors.. I made an XY table for my CO2 laser using nothing but printer parts. I have parts and circuit boards of devices in my "grave yard" that I look at now, and think - once upon a time this was a $2000 printer, or this was a top of the line monitor - now lay in wait in pieces for my next project.
I Love dumpster diving!
First off the "Problem" as you put it - is blown waay out of proportion. (Good to see your buying into the propaganda though)
I have not seen any big media file for bankruptcy lately.
Thees days, all I have to do is fart in tune - record it - copyright it, and suddenly I am a member of this holier-than-thou elitist group of people that has power over the masses because I have a talented anus.
The people come first - the moms and pops and joe the plumbers - you don't treat people like criminals because they might be.And don't threaten people -after all that's what this is.
Don't buy into the hype.
If IP holders are so afraid of copying, than don't publish.
As you can see I have little regard for all this copyright bullshit - especially after seeing how the industry behaves like a bunch of rabid crack addicted babies with checks written to our congress critters. They can stick their shit where the sun don't shine.
The longer we allow this to continue the worse it will become. Until we are the little drones they want us to be, and the internet becomes another form of TV.(just for consumption)

Exactly. lets not care if the people who voted for us are upset by this.
Lets not look if any laws are possibly being violated - not to mention peoples privacy - and some sort of due process..
Lets not care it large corporations have the say on guilt or innocence of the people.
Because...
"The government has played no role."
"ISPs being sued for playing judge, jury and executioner"
And they [isp's] will win. With the blessing and a handshake from our bought government. Remember large cartels that we are dealing with can do no wrong in the eyes of our government. They are untouchable.
And it will continue to get worse the more they see what they can get away with..
And the internet becomes a relic of it's former self.
And the little guy gets the shaft.. Again..

I had to read your comment several times - since you seem to have such a strong and fantastic suggestion - but alas, a lot of hot air and no suggestions on how to go about "DOING SOMETHING." Please inform us sheep what your doing to help, and how we can too - since you got it all figured out.
Also I was told if you put those three tones you get when dialing an out of service number before your message on your answering machine, the robo systems will discard your number for being out of service. After a while it should help stop the madness.
With all this talk of the 787 lately, I wanted to find out more about the aircraft. From Wikipedia's 787 page I found this bit rather interesting I think slashdotters would to:
"The airplane's control, navigation, and communication systems are networked with the passenger cabin's in-flight internet systems.[199] In January 2008, FAA concerns were reported regarding possible intentional or unintentional passenger access to the 787's computer networks. In response, Boeing stated various airplane protective hardware and software solutions are employed, including air gaps in places to physically separate the networks, and firewalls for software separation."
Hi our name is Anonymous, and we would like to book a flight...
We had this guy in our office who would go jogging every day at lunch. When he would come back he would take of his sweat pants , t-shirt and socks and put on his business clothes back on. Then he put his sweaty stinky clothes in the microwave oven in the break room to dry out.. Oh The Smell...
It's more of a logistic headache im sure. What I am interested to see is how the composite construction stands the test of time along with the new "Bleed-less" engine design" which now requires systems that used to use compressed air from the engines( cabin pressure, de-icing, etc), to use electrical power. Boeing claims it will save fuel but the generators and electrical systems are a good deal beefier on this aircraft, and bleed less design is a first for large passenger aircraft.
I think the days when people start shopping more strategically are coming. When consumers discover the power of their choices, you will see a lot of things change real quickly.
You put far to much faith in the average joe that just wants cool stuff and wants it now. Otherwise we wouldn't be in this situation. I try to explain thees things to people they just don't get it. In fact one says stop reading Slashdot - its the land of tinfoil hats.
We buy more, sales are low - must be piracy - they tighten the screws. We buy even more, and it continues. It's like a frog that would jump out of boiling water - but raise the heat slowly and they will just sit and cook to death.
I know several programmers - all who think the are the worlds finest - and they ALL behave this way when some one screws up. Programmers, I find have the best tantrums and meltdowns of any profession. It's the nature of the species I guess..
The clicking you hear is the heads loading and unloading ( parked). Look at the difference in 'Power cycle count' and 'Load cycle count' they should be about the same. However a deranged drive may load/unload its heads for several reasons: An internal controller reset. Spindle speed out of spec, or it fails too many thermal re-calibrations. Thees two parameters are a good sign of how the drive is doing. If they are way different then somethings wrong.. And some drives just sit in and endless load/reload cycle.. Click.. Click... Click Smash them with a hammer:)
You have to interpret the data correctly. Looking at seek error rate and raw read errors tells if the heads are positioning accurately. Run the drive hard (read/write patterns )and watch the temperature. And of course if you start seeing a non 0 pending, and realloc sector count you know the end is near. And watch as a drive gets older the spin up time will increase. (I rarely shut the raid server down so this is less important). I have smartd email and text me any time things start to get out of a happy place.. I do nightly quick test and weekly extended tests. Smart is useful - if your smart about it...
The bottom line is that someday they are going to piss off the wrong person/people and their will be bloodshed. I am not saying it's right, but I am saying I wont shed a tear.
Since this is all digital data, ordinary privacy concerns don't apply. It's just 1's and 0's. They try hard convince people that computer data simply is has no privacy expectation. And people and the courts will just give in.
He is just there to sabotage science, technology and reason. It is as simple as that. My friend who is in local politics says it very standard practice for a person to join or chair a committee for the sole purpose of sabotaging the committee and what it stands for. Kinda like the ole fox guarding the hen house. So it's just not a matter of a poor choice, it's an agenda.

We are banning virtual guns.....
But we are keeping the real ones!

But the problem is you and I think is "abuse". The government and thees trolls see it as a business opportunity.

Religious people are delusional and quite possibly stupid. I bring into question anyone who believes in sky gods.

That was my first linux machine. I had a 386 DX-33 with slackware and kernel .99 Patchlevel 13
It was the cats meow ;)
Panic and catch fire.

Maybe they had so many blue screens of death during development they decided blue would be a fitting name.
