  1. How about pulling a Mac? on Preventing Another Vista-like Release With Windows 7 · · Score: 1, Offtopic

Why not bite the bullet and go with an OSX type operating system? It'll be a bit painful but it'll cure a lot of the security woes and actually be a major upgrade instead of a major security update. Both Mac and Linux are running that style OS on an Intel platform isn't it time Microsoft surrendered and dumped Windows for a more stable and secure approach.

  2. Any hope of balanced coverage? on Senate Majority Leader Takes On File Sharing · · Score: 1, Insightful
"Unfortunately we are likely to see neither sense nor principle from the Democrats on this issue, as Hollywood is their biggest cash machine."

Flat out wrong. Other corporate sources far outweigh Hollywood they just don't sound as good as saying left wing Hollywood rules the Democrats. Also the bulk of the contributions are from individuals not the studios and the rights organizations. I realize there's only one position on Slashdot, copyright holders are evil and file sharers are good, but at least try to appear more balanced. I believe in the freemarket which makes me just this side of Satan but it's a system that worked and supported the production of new content. Free exchange of copyrighted material will eventually dry up the well. It may seem cool to download the latest blockbuster free but revenues are falling and eventually if the trend doesn't reverse they will disappear. The only reason the theaters are still in business is $10 tickets and $5 popcorn. The number of tickets sold have been steadily dropping not as radically as the music industry but it'll eventually get as bad. If you don't care about Hollywood movies why are you downloading them? If you do care then downloading for free is threatening the future of film. Just the facts.

I really do find it sad and pathetic that some people live to spoil things for others. I couldn't care less about Harry Potter but many people do. It's in the same category with defacing artwork to feel a sense of self importance. If they have no talent themselves they feel it gives their lives meaning to destroy some one elses work. Obviously it's not on the same level but it is the same kind of mentality of people that do things like shoot John Lennon. No one knew who the guy was before or cared but now they know his name. Great the guy managed to leak Harry Potter so for a moment he's important. That isn't gaining geek points they are looser points in my book.

Organize people in every city to sneak blocks of dry ice into the tanks at night. The CO2 will bubble out harmlessly but instead of raising the temperature during the summer the gas would be cooler. Oil companies see a mysterious drop in summer time profits. Temperature sensors suddenly appear on all gas pumps.

On a serious note isn't it ironic that global warming will actually make oil companies additional profits based on fuel expansion. It'll be small but even a degree change would probably mean millions when you consider the volumes involved.

It's almost like picking winning lottery tickets. If they stopped producing albums and strickly produced singles then most of the profit would disappear as well as most of the professional music. It's not a matter of the customer is always right it's a capitalist system and is profit driven. No profit, no music.

They also have a new disinformation department called iBull. It's purpose is to leak information about nonexistent products they are developing to drive Bill Gates crazy. The iCar is one such product. It's supposed to marry iPod, iPhone and iMac into one portable take anywhere unit that will run on any fuel source and can be recharged by solar panels. Microsoft is responding with their own car nicknamed "Zoom". Apple spends a couple of grand on some nice CG renders of the iCar, Microsoft spends ten billion developing and marketing their Zoom car, the smile on Steve Jobs face, priceless.

  12. Re:Huh? on Bush Commutes Libby's Sentence · · Score: 2, Insightful

It is text book. The first thing that foreign agencies will do is trace every contact that person had and put them on a list of possible agents. Most covert operations in world don't hold that high a standard so if the person was under suspicion and was found to have numerous contacts with the outed agent it'd be assumed they were passing secrets and in some cases would come up missing. It's horrendous that a representative of our government would out an agent strictly to punish their spouse for telling the truth. And telling said truth to the American people. Let's say an undercover drug agent was outed by the police chief because he didn't like or was trying to punish the guy. Several of his associates were also undercover and immediately came under suspicion from the bad guys and were at risk of being shot. Do you say hey what's the big deal or do you say the police chief had no right to risk lives for a vendetta? This is worse because we are talking about the security of the country. If this government is so concerned about protecting us from terrorist why would they attack the very people fighting to protect it? Troops wouldn't have stopped 911 but better intellegence might have. These are the very people trying to obtain that intellegence. Everyone involved is a criminal and traitor and should at the very least be removed from office. If they were involved I'd include Bush, Cheney and Rove. I find it hard to believe two out of the three weren't involved. The third one might have been too busy trying to make it through the last chapter of My Pet Goat. We had the greatest country in the history of the world and people like these are ripping it apart for personal and political gain. Strip away party politics and look at it objectively. I'm independent which makes it easier. This isn't about Republican or Democratic it's about nationalism which should supercide party affiliations.

Thanks to our friends at Wikipedia "Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, authoritarianism, militarism, corporatism, collectivism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, racism and opposition to economic and political liberalism.[1][2][3]"

Sounds like the Bush administration to me.

Ultimately why would a space craft be built out material resembling tin foil. Nothing larger than sticks and thicker than tin foil were found at the first site and there's serious doubt if there was a second site. Most of the witnesses are suspect, at least the ones with the most dramatic stories. Possible, Maybe. Evidence, zero.
