I think the difference is here that people who copy music aren't doing this for a profit...
If a company 'pirates' your drawings, and are using it in their catalogue etc, then they are looking to make money from your work, therefore you as the 'copyright holder' deserves a slice of the pie.
The average person doesn't pirate music to make a profit, but on a more casual 'hey, listen to this!' basis.
I think the real question here is: Would you care if the people you saw using your drawings were not able to make money from them?
Ummm the whole idea of an automated system is so that someone doesn't have to watch every bit of info that goes through the system.
Changes are, only people who are flagged will come up - and this will be either stolen cars, or something else associated with the registration plate that is of interest to law enforcement.
If you think that everything else will be checked and doublechecked, then you really need to get out your tinfoil hat...
What is worrying is you can only succeed if you make you product unable to be used for anything else. So for games consoles you have to make it near impossible for anyone else to be able to write software (especially free software) for the device.
Is this like the Xbox? I'm sure these folks would disagree!
Woooo - I'll take a free radeon 9800 with 256Mb RAM! Thanks Bill!
In all seriousness though, just looking at the price of decent video cards, I doubt that hardware will ever be free.
As PC's get faster, graphics get more detailed, and it's always required a graphics card update. Hell, my current video card has 32 times as much RAM as my first PC with over 640Kb!
Coool. so you get a one hop trip to 70,000ft high... and nowhere from there... Maybe they could put a WiFi hot spot up there so friendly aliens can get internet access as they fly by...
How about just getting the damn 'mark all as read' hotkey going in Linux.. it's been broken since 0.2... Even in the full version of Mozilla it's b0rked... It iritates me to no end having to navigate the menus just to mark an IMAP folder as read.
Maybe even a right-click -> Mark all as read would do...
I fully agree with this... I used to pirate DVD's... got a snazzy DVD burner etc...
Now commercially made (read legit) DVDs are worth almost as much as my time and effort to pirate one...
Net result: "hey, can you burn me this DVD?" "Yeah, but it'll probably be cheaper for you to go buy it"

It is, however, a far superior system, and yet another reason to get a Mac. (YARTGAM)
Does this mean there is actually 1 solid reason to get a mac?
The most I can find is their Airport Extreme (God I hate that word)
Yes, Apple is indeed a dirty word.
I hope you're not the guy that exists in a cube near me.... dude, that ring is fucking annoying!
Everytime I hear it, I just want to smash it with a hammer.
Now I'll be able to find out if the boss is actually reading my email!
:)
heh - and he says he doesn't get it
I have no idea what the hell you just said... so I'll mark it +1, Informative.
residents of Manalapan are a bunch of well-back rich bastards with nothing better to do than whine and complain.
/.'ers :)
Hmmm - if it wasn't for the rich part, I guess that would pretty much sum up the majority of
I have old hard drives lying around that I got at the thrift in the eighties. I wonder what is on them? I bet I could give some people heart attacks.
good lord, don't tell me they're running DosShell!
Just be very worried when they use ... oh say ... nuclear energy to stop any cars that come up as stolen etc!

Hmmm... on a tech note, how will it actually stop the transfer?
I can think of a few, but none are ISP/Internet friendly.
Hammer, Screwdriver.
When you gather the pieces again, try to re-arrange the chip into something that resembles its original form, and read what it says on the front.

Sorry, but Bill Gates is not known for being a technology visionary.
What!??! you mean I need more than 640kb of RAM?
I remember reading somewhere that a paint chip doing a direct hit on the space shuttles windscreen could cause it to have a major fracture.
Not exactly sure on the source though...
At least 70,000 ft, I'd say. :-)

Broadband communication blimp, anyone?
I was thinking that - but just imagine the length of fibre you'd need to get to 70,000 ft!!!
antisocial is exactly what it means, against society. ie burning looting raping and maiming, anything to disrupt society.
Isn't that what everyone does in their spare time?
Sure! Press Ctrl + Alt + F1 :)
Come on! a 5" LCD would look awesome on a keychain :) PDA bah! then forbig him to work on a portable PC - or you may never see him again!
3 years on the code, 6 weeks beta testing, and 15 minutes on documentation. Just priceless.
