Yeah, personally I wish every distro would just use Gentoo's init system. Out of every Linux system I maintain, it is by far the most beautiful
It is true that gentoo's init system is easy to use, yet is it really hard to fire up Yast/RHcontrol center/whatever debian uses and edit the runlevels? or even to add the extensions by hand? plus i havn't come across any GUI for gentoo's init system (havn't really looked either) but is an admin who is switching from a windows server ( this seems to be the theme of xandros) REALLY gonna want to learn command line tools? or a passive home user for example even. no, they are going to want a nice fancy EASY GUI app.

Yes, please do not take CS as a major...after all we don't want yet ANOTHER generation of innovators. take biz. courses so you can be a market drone and sell last generations crap cause you didn't want to spend the effort to INNOVATE. sounds like a smart thing for me to do... where's that number for my college... i need to get out of CS classes...
oh, wait, i LIKE learning more indepth about computers than any MORON that thinks he is king shit just because he can pass tha tests for his/her MCSE.
    1. You don't get overtime... A lot of times people are expected to work 50-60 hours/week.
hmmmm last i checked, SALARIED employees didn't get overtime... the get X amount a year for working. Look at a management position, they mostly don't get paid overtime.
not to mention the tech support issue you brought up... WHO THE HELL WOULD GET A CS MAJOR AND EXPECT TO WORK TECH-SUPPORT??? a CS major is WAY over qualified for help-desk. you can get degrees in less than a year at tech schools for help desk positions. a CS grad. would be more for systems analyst or engineer at large companies.

Of course several dorm-sized fridges placed around the house full of beer would probably work better than the robot.

As somewhat of a Catholic I'd prefer a convent of nuns pray for me rather than a monastery of Buddhist monks.

Why is that? Do you feel your view of god is "better" than thiers? I happen to practice wicca, in wich the belief is that everyone sees "god" differently, yet it is the same force... just with a "face" that the human mind can comprehend. So is my "goddess" REALLY any different from your cristian "god"? No i don't beleive so, but then i am relitively tollerant. I have catholic friends that pray for me, do i care what religion they are...no. Do they care that i meditate for them, hmmm, nope. Think before you mock some other religion.

why aren't old computers being donated to developing countries instead? if DOS/win 3.11/95/linux/Mac os pre-X were good enough for 20 years why the hell aren't they good enough for people who don't know the difference?

Because that woulden't HELP. What is needed to actually HELP these countries IS a PC that can run the latest software, and should be preloaded with SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT TEACHING TOOOLS. whats the point of learning some proprietary system that NO-ONE else in the world uses? While this may be irratating in that tech-support may be outsourced even more ( yeah just what is need, more un-intelligable accents) no-one is going to learn ANYTHING on those other PC's.

Is it, really? It's good for system stability. But it's easier for malevolent code to 'break into' user-level execution space than into kernel space. Do we really want malware out there that can 'on the fly' replace the networking functionality without crashing the machine? You want to run the PATRIOT-act compliant TCP/IP stack dynamically, whenever the ActiveX on a government web page tells your OS to?

ewwww ActiveX, you must be using IE.... last i checked you had to be dumb enough to install crap in mozilla/firefox to be vulnerable to ActiveX....
