Let me clarify: It wouldn't be very nice to have a plasma needle break while your teeth are being worked on
There is no actual needle being used here, you are forcing high frequency voltage down a piece of tungsten ( the positive ) and it is bridging a small gap to a negtively charged ring clip. this then ionises the air around the arc, then you use a high pressure gas to blow the ionised air down a guidance tube and out of the guidance tip. the "needle" they refer to is the tiny plasma point that comes out of the guidance tip. to see what i mean go to any welding supply store and ask to see a demonstration of a plasma cutter, it is pretty much the same thing... just a lot larger scale.

hmmmm, what ARE you smoking? i have one of the bulkier pda's the hp hx2755 and it fits in my pockets just fine ( smaller than a wallet with some biz. cards in it even) personally i would be lost without my pda. i write email, take notes, play solitair in boring meetings/waiting in line, view photos from both SD cards and CF cards from my cameras on it and much much more. i wouldn't trade the bulk for less features, i LIKE bluetooth and 802.11b connectivity with no external cards. plus the biometric fingerprint reader keeps my data safe (even after a FULL reset you can't use the pda without the fingers used to secure it in the first place). that said i am still waiting for the linux port to be completed from handhelds.org, this pda is faster than my old laptop, has more ram (and i am talking about program running ram not program installation ram) and deosn't weigh nearly as much. the pda market is ESSENTIAL to testing out smaller and less powerhungry components to be used in their bigger cousins. that said, now i am off to poke around at some stuff and see if i can get win98 to boot from an image on my CF card.

and if you like having multiple desktops there is an XP powertoy to manage virtual desktops(up to four) it does the usual, apps open on one desktop do not show up in the others ( saves a LOT of screen realestate) also there is an option to preview all four desktops at once to see wich one the app you want is on ( havn't seen this on my linux boxes, anyone know if this is possible with kde?) and someone mentioned before the "open command window here" shell integration is a nice toy for changing permissions A.K.A "file attributes" Virtual desktop have been there since day 1 (if you want them to appear on all desktops, make the windows sticky), preview also, but I'm guessing the mac-like functionality you're talking about exists in xgl. Also you can config the file manager in KDE so it automatically has a terminal following your graphical browsing of folders, just click on the link box down right (if I remember correctly, because I use XFCE).
what i was talking about is a feature in the MS virtual desktop manager power toy, i can click a button and it goes full screen showing screenshots of all four desktops and the apps open on them. i haven't found a way to do this in kde or any other WM in linux yet, but it is a nice feature... i may have to send in a feature request to the kde devels.
in kde 3.5.1 (and 3.4x) you can right click in MOST linux folders and select >actions>open terminal here, or just hit F4
