    Seeing that this is a global matter , which will affect everyone , i believe it should be.
    It's legal system , is already being affected by outside influence : Up till now , providing torrents on your website was perfectly legal in Sweden.

    Nah , rapidshare removes links when requested to do so.
    They are just uploaded again , a minute later.

    All in all , a good deal for rapidshare :
    They can pretend to care about copyright , and at the same time make large amounts of money from it.
    This contrary to TPB , which can only survive on ads.

    No , it's discriminative.

    Racism requires that you are discriminating , based on race . There is no evidence of that in the post , as it could be interpreted as broadly as the entire slashdot population .

    It's most likely a discrimination based on intelligence : the person assumes that 'You people' , are an intelligent group , and therefor , is amazed that he has to explain it to us .

    I have a simple answer to that : You must be new here.

    It depends . You have to put it in it's context.

    In Iran , and most of the Arabic world , stoning is meant a humiliating punishment.

    So , it sends the signal 'anyone who does this , deserves to be stoned' .

    My thoughts exactly.

    It reminds me of where i work ( and eat ) : they only one little plastic knives to be used , which makes it very hard to cut food with .
    However , they go through human skin like butter ( can't count the number of times i'v cut myself with one trying to peel an apple ).

    We had it recently in Belgium too.
    Only , here , they used it to block a site which aimed to stop child porn instead .

    No. Not in a liberal democracy. The purpose of a liberal democracy (every democracy based on either the US or British model) is to protect the rights of citizens from transgression by the government. Constrained power to the majority is the means, not the end. And most importantly, that power is constrained.

    Constrained power to the majority means that that majority will have less power , and thus , less rights (as power is required to ensure rights are upholded) . So how can that be protecting the rights of the majority ?

    Basically, you have to be careful about any kind of legislative system that does to much to increase the power of the majority

    The only reason they add these things in attachment is because they hope no one will notice until it's too late . And that's because they know the majority of people won't approve ( otherwise they would do it openly ) .

    The difference is , that that supercomputer will only be used for the computations , whereas a home pc will be used for other things.
    Most people won't run their pc's 24/7 .

    So , you would have to calculate how much more energy the pc uses when it's running folding@home , not how much they use in total.

    Be friendly , consequent and assertive :

    Explain them in a friendly manner what the policies are for , and what would happen if they didn't follow them.
    Also, policies , no matter how liberal , have to be enforced in a way to be effective . If breaking the rules has no consequences , the rules don't exist . So that should be straightend out first .

    If users come to you with a complex project , explain them that it is complex , in a way they understand . Make a rough estimation on how much work it will be , and how much it wil cost . If they don't agree with it , don't start the project , but also be clear on it . And make your estimations large enough : it's always better to finish earlier than late .

    If two dogs get along on first meeting it's likely because they've been so thoroughly domesticated and behaviorally trained. Much like a more socially educated person won't immediately lash out at another human.

    Actually , it doesn't require any real behavioral training. Just make sure the dogs meet other dogs frequently when they are pups , and you won't have any problems.

    It's only when dogs never see other dogs , or have very bad expierences with them , that they will react agressively.

    The difference is , with dogs , this attacks takes maybe 20 seconds or so , as pretty soon the weaker dog will go laying on his back , and surrender.

    The second the weaker dog does that , the alpha dog will release his bite instinctively , and let go .

    Not only that , the storage wouldn't be an entire waste : it would be encrypted , so not directly accesible , but the part that is already stored on your pc , could be retrieved locally, as they are actually already available.

    Only problem is that in this case you sharing doesn't grow exponentially, like it does with bittorrent : every user would share 1 gb of information , regardless of whether they downloaded 20gb , or 10mb .

    Actually , that could be done , however , the problem is that someone visiting slashdot with a browser , and posting on it, would be able to corrupt the data.

    So we need to way to ensure that only the program can post , and nothing else.

    Perhaps it can be done by storing the data in first posts : The program would be fast enough to put a post first , and if not , we know what 90% of the first posts will look like , so we can filter those out.
