    That's true , but why should you be forced to buy an operating system if you are not going to use it . It's not a problem with a regular pc , wich i assemble myself , but i don't have that choice when buying a labtop .

    Well , Dell is making some progress on it , by selling labtops with preinstalled Ubuntu , but i have no other choice than that.
    I guess that means at least some loss for Acer , and some gain for Dell .

    true , that the entire point .

    ODF won't kill MS Word , because if it becomes to difficult for Microsoft to hold on to their format , they will simply start using ODF.

    It will however , make microsoft' s grip on the market less powerfull , since you won't need MS Word . But there will always be people who buy MS Office , just because they don't know any better .

    But ODF defeintely has a future . It can't die . It's an idea who's time has come .

    it's quite easy to turn a motor into a generator .

    The motion on the wheels will cut through the magnetic field , thus creating a current . This current however , creates a Lorenz power wich is opposite to the motion of the wheels , thus slowing it down .

    So it will slow down while generated electricity .

    I wouldn't know that , since i don't use Myspace , but i know that i use my pc more and more , and my tv less .
    I guess there are 3 reasons to that :
    - there is barely anything that interests me on tv anyone ( always the same movies )
    - there is an endless amount of interesting stuff on the internet
    - my gaming addiction is stronger than tv series addiction .

    I have a different theory : the more trojans and viruses get created , the more people will become security minded and install antivirus and firewalls .

    So the people that write malware indirectly cause increased security.
    So this is good news .

    Someone should set up a wireless , strong enough so the university students can use it . Don't need to do it for free , i'm sure the students would be willing to pay something for it ( probably the part they save by not using the university Internet ) . The University can't oppose that .

    and that's what i find so strange about it : it's very easy to track down anyone who uses BT .
    you can see the ip's of anybody who shares it .

    So the right thing to do would be to keep quit , let the sicko's let their guard down , get the ip's and bust them .
    the police should be thanking TPB for making it so easy . If the sicko's start using some anonymous protocol or darknet , it's a lot more difficult .

    But the thruth is : this isn't about cp : it's about the police not being able to bust TPB because they have the support of the public . So now they try to destroy that , so they can stop them , and say it was because of the cp .
    You don't need to be a political scientist to see through this one .

    that doesn't have anything to do with the programming language itself , but with the steps before the actual programming ( wich is to often neglected ) . sorry , but your model ( build & repair ) won't work very well . The key is complete analysis of the problem , knowing what you want to create and how the application will be build up ( see the Waterfall model ) . that will be more likely to lead to a succesfull program . to get back on the subject , this is problably what those senior programmers will be doing if they stop coding . They have better insight in what is possible , and more patience than younger , more passionate programmers :-)

    no single standard ? look at any linux distro and compare . There are many subtle differences , but the core ( the kernel and base system ) is always the same ( with somethimes a few changes ) . Linux is not fragmented , it's diversified ( meaning that you can use any distro you like , and you can run the same apps on any other distro )

    when your xserver crashes , you just get the command line . from there you can simply restart with 'startx'

    no need to restart the system , and the xserver definitely loads faster than Windows . ( i just tried : about 10 seconds ) .

    all those things might indeed get you data back .

    to successfully make the data unreadable , you have to think about how the hard drive work , wich is trough magnetization .

    so if you magnetize the entire disk for a while , the data will become unreadable because you can't distinguish the data since all bits will have the same value .

    it's quite simple . the more the software is used , the more bugs pop up . This leads to more bugs reports , wich leads to more bugs getting solved . so the more you use it , the more stable something will become .

    i tend to agree .
    The punishment is way to hard , and stupid too.

    What's he going to learn from being expelled ? nothing .
    A good punishment would be making him write a paper on why he did it , and the consequences of his actions . he will learn a lot more from that .

    about the 'disprution' . how long did he record the video ? if it's 5 minutes or so , it's hardly a distraction , but i'm sure it will have been a lot af fun . and school should be a little fun too .

    Or would you prefer boring childeren , who never do anything wrong in their lives , living like slaves to society ?

    most things are very easy to install in ubuntu .
    every recent distribution has a package manager where you can search for what you need and it downloads and installs it completely automated . there may be a few exceptions , but that's just the same for some windows apps .

    I can only tell you this , Linux is not windows . so don't expect everything to be going exactly the same way . every OS needs a bit of effort to learn .

    The sadness of your post is that your attitude will increase the chance for insecurity . it's not secure just because it's linux/mac or whatever . it's secure because of the effort people put in it , because of their awareness to security . The funny thing about security is that a heavy breach in security usually leads to better security , while blindly believing that you are secure leads to some insecurity .

    What if there was a child in that school who had previously witnessed a real school shooting ? I'm sure no one wants to go to something like that twice .
