    That already happened some years ago. The goose was force-fed to make capitalist foie gras and has been turned into a shopping mall. A party-line system of communication where the powerful get to listen in.

    At this point, the Internet is nothing but part of the mechanism of control.

    If black people really wanted to gain political power through sheer weight of population, increasing their birth rate is really the long way around the problem. (Not to mention that having more children per family would decrease, not increase, their economic power as individuals.)

    The effective way to get political power would be for them to collectively pick a state and move to it.

    You should not assume that black people believe the only way to gain political power is through the sheer force of population numbers. There's only two Koch brothers, but they gained political power through the sheer force of numbers of dollars in their bank account.

    There's more than one way to gain political power, especially in a nation where elections are won by such a small percentage of the population.

    These "autonomous car" flacks are really relentless. These stories always show up from an "anonymous reader" always in US prime time, always during the week (never on weekends) and always telling us how "autonomous cars" are going herald in the New Utopia.

    There's not even an attempt to include any news in the story, just pure PR.

    Even half-drunk and not paying attention I can see the pattern. Look for yourselves.

    That's misleading. The number of abortions compared to pregnancies have been increasing yearly.

    Please provide a citation that isn't from one of the anti-abortion websites (who for some reason, never seem to include any citations for the numbers they give, you will notice).

    It just isn't so.

    You are implying that getting an abortion isn't life changing ... and also that it isn't a bad decision.

    The total number of abortions (including in the black community) has been dropping every year since 1980. EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

    That's dopey. You've got to get information from places other than pro-life websites.

    But even if you use the numbers cited by the pro-life websites (and cited NO WHERE ELSE), you'll see that live births outnumber abortions by at least 6-1. If you use census data for births, you'll see that it's more like 10-1. And that's if you accept the total number of black abortions the pro-life websites have pulled right outta their ass.

    As a professional videogame programmer, I can assure you that it's fairly newsworthy when a game designer uses math to solve problems like these.

    There's more math in the corniest Free2Play game than there is in Witcher 3.

    As a professional videogame programmer, I'm guessing you've heard of Eve Online. I'm just guessing here, because I'm not a professional videogame programmer, but I'll just bet they used a little math in the same way. Over a decade ago.

    Anyway, my point was that I would have thought Slashdot readers would be beyond getting all excited when someone is discovered to be "using math". In programming an economy-simulator.

    With no fridge, no dishes, no microwave, no oven, no range, no dishwasher, no utensils, no pests, no cleaning products nor dirty rags, my life is considerably simpler, lighter and cleaner than before. I think it was a bit presumptuous for the architect to assume I wanted a kitchen with my apartment and make me pay for it. My home is a place of peace. I don’t want to live with red hot heating elements and razor sharp knives. That sounds like a torture chamber. However, it’s not a total loss. I was able to use the cabinets to store part of my book collection.

    Wait a kitchen is a "torture chamber"? Slow your roll there, big boy.

    I mean, if he wants to make his life "simpler, lighter and cleaner" he could just tear out his bathroom and use catheter. It'd be about as much fun as living on Soylent 2.0.

Either way, without Russia soaking up everything Hitler could muster against them, there might well not have been enough time to plan for a Normandy invasion before England was gone. The costs were horrific, and Americans who forget that it wasn't just G.I. Joe that defeated the Nazis dishonor themselves.

    I was only in Istanbul once, and only long enough to have dinner, fall asleep and run to the airport. But my Serbian monther-in-law has some very strong opinions about Turks. She's usually such a sweet little old lady, but don't get her started on the Turks. I mean, the Ottoman Empire was gone before she was born, but damn, she's still mad about something.

    Once they have located an attacker, having privately owned armed drones would be very handy. if the attacker is a nation state, even more aggressive measures could be used.

    The Trans-Pacific Partnership gives them the right to use "even more aggressive measures". It's called "corporate sovereignty" and it will be our undoing. Basically, it says that a corporation can sue governments for damages for any law that might conceivably cost them money.

    We already have a mercenary military. Imagine the armies the Fortune 500 will put into the field, and the mischief they could create.

    About half of my power bill is the cost of generation, the other half is transmission...

    He didn't say "price", he said "cost". Because "transmission costs" are how power companies raise rates. The transmission costs have not gone up, but they've raised to transmission price as an end-around local consumer groups that have gotten laws passed to limit energy cost increases.

    Transmission "costs" are actually a profit center for companies that really should be regulated utilities instead of one-way piggy banks for billionaires.
