Trouble is, I DON'T WANT ANY MORE TOOLBARS! Ahem. More is NOT better in this case.
Perhaps that is the reason why I rarely got hit by adware/spyware, even before Firefox. I just have never seen a real reason for all these toolbars. *shrug*
Assuming you're talking about Uru, then it was released. They cancelled the Online content, and released it as a single player, like all the other Myst games.
The online part was pretty cool, since you could get help from other people to solve the puzzles in the areas you could group in. It's a boon for people like me who love the puzzles, but suck at them.
My definition may be different than yours, and certainly will be different than the software designers. If it reports back to the company in any fashion, even if only the web sites I've visited or ads played/shown on my computer, then I classify it as spyware.
Until a legal definition of "Spyware" is made, most likely by a court of law, then it will always be up for debate. Once we have that in place, then things won't changed, except that maybe these companies will stop threatening to sue the anti-spyware companies.
I agree. If it were ME who had to reinstall windows because of their crap, I would be billing them for the time it took me to do said reinstall.
I know of at least one person who paid someone to do that, and I have already recommended that they go that route, instead of accepting the settlement. I have no idea if they did (will) or not.
I had to use SymNRT to uninstall a broken installation of System Works 2003(which worked fine except for the fact that Speed Disk, the utility I tend to use most often out of the entire suite was not installed).
After finishing up, every time I tried to create a new object (folder, text file, etc) or rename something through explorer, the Roxio installer would fire up. I ended up uninstalling EZCD Creator since I don't use it much any more since I upgraded to the latest Nero and things went back to normal.
What MSAS really needs to take out as spyware, or perhaps just useless overhead-wasting junk, is the Norton Protection Center...
I've seen this as well, with my own subscription to NetFlix, but after doing some checking, I discovered why.
The thing is, they sometimes ship DVDs from places other than the Denver center (the closest to me), which invariably results in longer delivery, and return time, because of where they are being shipped to.
Once I realized that, I've kept an eye on all the delayed DVDs, and each one of those were coming from other cities.
I'm beginning to think this is all a matter of perception.
I fully plan to let all my clients (also friends) know about this, and how it might affect their business (yes, I know two people who have their business email go through AOL) and will set them up with a gmail account as an alternative.
If that much mail is being blocked, then it's time to highly suggest they look elsewhere for service. I doubt most of them actually use the features that make AOL worth keeping (assuming there are any).
He's not an abuser if he just burned a disk. If what he's done is `making porn` then the sentence for `making porn` should be dropped to a $5 fine or something. Otherwise you risk holding the law up to ridicule.
This sounds like nothing more than justification.
If it were not for these motherfuckers who download, buy or otherwise obtain kiddie porn, there would not be a market for it, and people would not produce it, or at the very least, the amount of it would decline, because there is not a market for it.
Those who download and watch kiddie porn need to be held just as guilty as those who produce it, because they are part of the chain that causes it to be produced.
All of them need to be taken out and shot in the head. They have no place in our society.
I actually did fill out their form for one I received. I'm not too terribly worried about spam from someone like them. Perhaps I'm naive, but I don't believe they will continue if I request them to stop sending it.
Anyway, I got a reply, from a real person, telling me they needed my account number in order to proceed. I told them I didn't have one, and that I only forwarded the information to them so they could stop possible fraud. They replied that they still needed my account number to proceed.
My final response to them was not very kind, and I never heard back from them again. I'm certain the profanity in it caused them to dump my 'case' right there. Too bad for their customers. Luckily, I won't ever be one.
I for one, seriously hope people take this step if they had to pay someone to clean up their computer.
I had one person who called me on this when it first came out, and after doing the research on what happens, I told them it would be better off waiting for a clean uninstall option. They chose to pay someone else $120 to reinstall windows for them (I would have done it cheaper). I have since passed this information on to them and advised them to force Sony to pay for it.
What he means is that if nobody from Sony, whether a lawyer, or just some schmuck with a briefcase of information, shows up, the court decides against them.
Why are people apologizing for this recommendation?
It's because people are way to fucking sensitive, and the corporations know it.
It's similar to the whole sexual harassment thing. All it takes these days is a hint of it, to get someone fired. No matter if it's intended or not, just the suggestion that it might be inappropriate, and wham!
Sometimes, I think people look for the worse possible thing they can find, just so they have something to complain about.
I mean, why hire all those people here in the US of A, and help the economy just a little bit, when you can support a foreign economy and pay 1/10th (that's probably an exaggeration) the amount while your at it.
Typical of way too many companies here in the US, they'd rather save money and make the bottom line look better, than actually support their own economy. It's not like the bigwigs have to worry about budgets or anything...
Puts a new twist on the term "Red light district" doesn't it?

The same thing could be said about video game addiction. :)
H.
I've been spending way too much time playing games to play with my joystick...

I still say the entire series would have been worth it if, in the movie, Shinji had snapped the bitches neck when he had the chance.
I also believe that the artists/writers/whoever was in charge, spent the last of their budget on drugs.
There is a lot of anime out there. Almost all of it is better than Evangellion.

Well, that's Ok, because I'm 5partacus.
My best friend over there is Sp4rtacus, and his brother is 5p4r4cus, and there there's....

Quietly set up at your local college (one that does NOT provide WiFi access), in an area where students gather to do home work, and turn it on.
As people find they have an internet connection suddenly, you get to surf through any unsecured laptops' shared folders, like "My Music."
Of course, I'm not advocating anything of the sort... *whistles innocently*

That is as bad as the one I heard:
Q:Did you know that everyone on the shuttle had blue eyes?
A:One blew that way, one blew this way...

Same here. In fact, I'll even schedule a time to quit.
Now, where's my PDA?

Any bets on which OS it'll support, or rather, which it won't work with?
I thought not.
