Hey, if everyone wants to bag on Microsoft not making a next generation file system, what is stopping Linux and the Open Source community from doing it? Oh, that's right- it's easier to just complain about MS than to actually get your hands dirty. Nevermind then, carry on.

I think you have a good point, but for a different reason. OSS won't do it because there is no reason to make such a file system. Linux and BSD have plenty to choose already. WinFS was just a carrot to entice the horse.

I know the above link is OT and disturbing (even by my standards), but if the parts of an animal or a human can benefit the rest of the world, then why not use them? It's like nature (or God, if you prefer) handing us a cherished gift and throwing it in the dumpster because we think it disgraces us morally/ethically. What a load of crap. It's just a blob of molecules arranged in a certain way. Get over it.

No, just text boxes with a button labeled search. They've outsourced the results to China and India so you just end up with a lot of garbage. I will admit that some of the results are meaningful, but are irrelevent to the search term (guns when searching for Jell-o, Faeries for War, M$ products for Linux well maybe not irrelevent there).

End Note: Don't predators learn to spot patterns?

Yes, they do, but it would still be better than sending them into the web with the naive notion that people are good and honest. Also, why do we hear about those morons that post crimes to myspace with their actual names on the pages? These kids having aliases really does play into this. We wouldn't be hearing these myspace stories if PredX, a 40 y/o man pretending to be a 16 y/o "dude", was talking to SallyY, a 17 y/o girl pretending to be a 29 y/o lesbian.

Teach kids how to misdirect, develop an alias, and spot patterns indicating a predatory nature.

Most kids are pretty smart. There will always be a group that is pretty stupid, but most understand that some people like to see others in pain or want to benefit from their misery. The easiest way I have ever found to keep my information safe is to simply be someone else when interacting online. I've used several aliases over the years and a google search on those names usually brings up a bunch of gibberish.

Parenting is probably not a good way to solve this problem. When it comes to kids and teens socializing, no one wants mom or dad in the picture. It's better just to give them tools to help, even if it's a really big knife.
