Except when you were coding something that ran away in memory, corrupted the RAD (the name of the recoverable RAM disk), destroying everything you hadn't saved for an hour or so.:)
(The Amiga didn't have an MMU originally, and even when they got it, the OS didn't support memory protection due to the shared message passing)
Claiming that Red Bull and Jolt and other random crap is a hacker drink is like thinking it's cool to drink ethanol at a party. Only gamers drink it, and no hacker with any self respect would ever think about it!
AMD would be either bought over by IBM or even by Microsoft.
Please dear $DEITY NO
Put a CPU company in the hands of Microsoft and Windows Vista will seem like the most free software in the world compared to the horrors that will be...
Imagine if the next version of Windows, you can only run application written for.Net. People don't care, because it'll be easy to port their apps anyway. So now Microsoft can change the CPU to something else than intel. Companies will have to build the new CPU into computers, because people will still demand to run Windows. Now, they can patent the hell out of both the CPU, and also.Net, and by magic alone, no one will be able to run any software on their computer legally in the US unless they have a license from Microsoft.
Go for anything with an intel chipset, preferably a ThinkPad if they will be upgraded to quad core. Always fun to laugh at the closed-source-binary-driver-hell that is nvidia and ati.
I wouldn't worry about the spelling, but please try to learn how to use some punctuation. If you can't read a sentence aloud without taking a pause to breathe, it's too long.:P
Here's hoping you're arguing for the sake of argument and/or sterile.
Well, arguing for the sake of argument, or playing the devil's advocate, can sometimes be educational, interesting and useful, but in this case, I'm arguing for something that I think is quite important, and that is privacy and free speech, and I think it's important to give this to children as well, as soon as they are old enough to want it.
Regarding being sterile, well, as you can see in my URL, I guess one could say that I'm responsible enough not to breed.
Or just because there is an attack avenue that strikes such a completely irrational fear into parents even when the threat is so extremely small, doesn't mean you have to remove all her privacy.
Please, someone mod that one down as irrational, or control freak.
Funny how you seem to let the kid stay with her father, since most often that is the one who is the predator in these cases. Far more often than some random person on the internet.
So I guess my question should be: Is there a law stating that you should always be allowed to resell things that you have bought? I think we have one of those in Sweden, and in that case, such a contract would not be valid. I'm not sure about this though.
1) Group X could prove that anyone sellying Item Y was under contract not to resell it.
Would this contract be legally binding in the US? If I sign a contract allowing you to kill me, would it be legal for you to then kill me? Would anyone trying to stop you from fulfilling this contract then be liable for knowingly helping me to breach a contract?
Why don't you just compare President Bush to Hitler while you're at it?
Well, that wouldn't be fair, would it? Hitler, while being pure evil, also got the German economy on its feet, and invested highly in infrastructure...;)
Free the political prisoners. Free the press. Allow criticism of the state. Allow the existance of other political parties. Hold free elections. Until these acts happen, Cuba is just another repressive government we don't want to read about on slashdot.
Let's see:
Free the political prisoners: I assume you mean the political prisoners sitting in the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, operated in Cuba by the United States of America.
Free the press: This one is quite important. Having most of the news in one country owned by one corporation/person (News Corp/Rupert Murdoch) is never good.
Allow criticism of the state: I completely agree here. It's very important that you don't let the government add regulations to force bloggers to register, etc.
Allow the existance of other political parties: Yes. Two more or less identical parties is much better than one.
Hold free elections: Indeed. A democracy that doesn't let for example women, black people, or prisoners vote, is just a joke.
Hardware crypto, such that key authentication/management is done without any computer interaction, means I don't have to worry about the security of the machine I'm using
Wrong. If the machine you are using is compromised, anyone with access to it can access your data as soon as you unlock it, either with your physical key, or with a password. Doesn't matter if you use software or hardware encryption. If your text editor can read the file on the disk, so can any other program on the computer.
This is, of course, also the reason why you should never trust any closed-source products to do anything important. You have absolutely no clue about what it does and how it does it, no matter what it claims to do.

What about Coca-Cola? No geek can go without it.
Sorry, IBM has already a patent on that.

If we nerds and geeks codes it, it'll run on any old P2 they have around in the basement awaiting destruction.

What's this, Security By Insanity? :)

That's because the most dangerous thing that can happen is that someone shows her a picture of goatse, which the parents then have to try to explain.

Why?
This is to keep the parents out of the computer, not the other way around.
Have you tried the thinkpad series? Check out the section about the keyboard in the reviews.
Makes me wonder what kind of university that was... University of Text Messaging for Minors?

Actually, most of those hot gothy girls loves us cute gothy geeks.
I think you're thinking of ABBA here.
