Bingo. In fact I'd say the opposite. The people who love this barely use their PCs and they see those walls as something that keeps the bad guys out. Not something that keeps them in. They are not geeks. They do not want to root their iPad. They want to show grandma pictures of little Timmy.

My friend's lappy just died. He uses email, a bit of the web and a bit of FaceBook. He likes the look of the iPad - says it'd be nice to have something he can just leave in the lounge without driving the gf crazy. He asked me what I thought. It's perfect for him. It's not a case of having another device, it's replacing a broken one with one that needs less maintenance and is quicker for his use-case. It's not for me to be honest. But that doesn't stop it being perfect for him.

I think you might be surprised. They don't think they care right until the linky linkys stop working. Then they'll really hate that they're missing out. Anyway, the ISPs would have to implement this as a whitelist unless they want to play whack-a-proxy, which leaves you with the choice of sanitised playground or the big old dirty internet. And that playground thing failed like a dozen times already, right?

I never understood this argument. No support? Well, if you're using Open Source then go with the obvious way of getting support and development - Spend half of what your budget was going to be employing Coders and IT. Hell it'll be cheaper, and guess what, when they aren't fixing something they can be making it better.
And when you pay people guess where they work, and where the money goes? In your county/state/country.

But each new Distro brings something to the table, and they each take things from other Distros. We don't need one Distro to Rule them All - as soon as that happens development will slow. Just let everyone make their own toys, then five, or maybe ten years from now everyone will have them all installed as instances in Xen, and all you'll have to do is run the VoltronLinux System Builder to combine them into one market-shattering UberOS. VoltronLinux. You heard it here first.
